Scott Anderson 409-344-1124 A Message from our Worthy Grand Knight

Dear Brother Knights, We are now in the midst of the 2021 Lenten season and our Parish just experienced a fantastic retreat series presented by the “Redemptorist Formation Community”. I thank all the Knights who volunteered to act as ushers for this series of services. If you missed it, you missed some great and heart-searching messages. Not to worry, though, all three services were live streamed to Facebook and YouTube and are available for viewing at your leisure. We have had an unfortunate turn of events in that the weather has left our church campus with no water. Since we need water at the cooking site and that water comes through connections in the Education building, we have had to cancel two fish fry events. Depending on when water returns, we may need to cancel more, but those cancellations will be made one at a time. Hopefully, we can all feast of fish in the next week or so. We are still working to restore our use of Saint John hall for our Council and Assembly meetings. Until then, however, we must be content with Zoom meetings. I encourage all Knights to set aside time to participate in the monthly meetings. There is no need for you to be in the area to participate. The link can be accessed from anywhere in the United States. It is our sacred duty as Knights to attend as many meetings as possible in support of our Council and Assembly. I do realize that many are involved in other activities that conflict with the Council Meetings, but there are also many who could attend and do not. Our next Council meeting is an Officer Meeting on Wednesday evening, March 3 at 7PM. The officer meeting is open to anyone who wants to bring up new business. Details should all be worked out at the officers’ meetings and not at the council meetings. Meeting minutes will be sent out electronically in advance of the Council meeting. If you desire to attend the Officer’s meeting and are not an officer, email me or SK Joe Vocks and we will extend an invitation. Our next General Council Meeting will be March 10 at 7PM. I will be sending out invitations to all Council members this coming weekend. That email will be accompanied by a copy of the minutes from the February meeting. Looking forward to good times in 2021.

Vivat Jesus Viva Cristo Rey In His Service, Tom, GK, SK Knights of Columbus Council 8521 February Activities

Knight of the Month January 2021 Brother Eloy Uresti. I appreciate the recognition. I have never been able to write about me. My Brothers enjoy this newsletter. God Bless You and your Families.

Brothers we are still in need of Prayer Warriors: The “Shield a Badge with a Prayer” program is designed to show support to local Law Enforcement Officers through daily prayer. The Texas State Council is promoting this program as a “Community” Activity” and encourages your Council or Assembly to start a “Shield a Badge with a Prayer” program. The goal of “Shield a Badge” is to have every officer “adopted” and to have a daily prayer said for that officer’s Safety, Good Judgment, and a Safe Return Home. The commitment is for ONE year. The officer’s name and badge number is given to the prayer sponsor. There are NO promises beyond a prayer every day (no personal contact, no phone calls, and no gifts.) Communication with the officer is limited to a card or note a few times a year letting them know you are praying for them. If an officer retires during the year, the prayer sponsor will be notified and a new officers name will be given. As new officers are hired, new prayer sponsors will be assigned. Contact: SK Tom Rosol,[email protected] or SK Mike Merta, [email protected] .

Have you ever wondered who streams all of our masses live on YouTube/Facebook? Our Grand Knight Tom Brod (sets up/tears down this equipment) before/after every 10 o’clock mass and special events at church. I’ve heard Father Francis acknowledge his work several times. Well Done! A Message from our Faithfull Navigator

Sir Knights,

March is upon us and we are now into our second week of Lent. I hope you have had many blessings already.

I don’t believe any of us could have predicted the winter storm that came down upon us just two Sundays ago and caused havoc with many of our lives and caused damage to our beloved St. Joseph-Honey Creek Campus. We hope and pray that our water problems will be solved this week so that we can hold our parish fish fry starting the first Friday of March and regain the use of the restrooms in the main church.

I hope that many of you were able to attend (virtually or in person) the Parish Lenten Retreat held February 23-25. This was a dynamic event put on by the Redemptorist Formation Community located right her in San Antonio. I particularly enjoyed the 2nd night done by Brother Brian Vacarro who made a comparison between prayer and swimming. He taught us the Redemptorist method of prayer that was first introduced in the 1700’s by St. Alphonsus Liguori (Bishop and Doctor of the Church) who was the founder of the Order. Below is the acronym that Br. Brian gave us to use to remember this method and to use it each day to model our prayers.

A: Adoration of our lord C: Contrition (recognize your sins and ask for forgiveness) T: Thanksgiving (Thank him for all the blessings he has given you) S: Supplication (ask for his help in the challenges of your life)

Continued Continuation

Since attending the retreat I have tried this method and found that it works very well. Many thanks to the Sir Knights and Brother Knights who assisted in the program for the 3 nights of the event. It was great to see so many of you there.

In closing, I want to remind everyone that our Supreme Knight, Carl Anderson, has retired effective February 28, 2021 after 20 years of faithful service in this position to our order. He has done many great things but certainly one of his greatest accomplishments is the formation of the Supreme Ultrasound Program that has resulted in the placement of 1500 ultrasound units in various pregnancy centers around the country. Countless children have been saved through this initiative and been brought to life on this earth due to the tireless efforts of Supreme and K of C Councils in our communities. Take the time to read about the legacy of Supreme Knight Anderson in the current issue of Columbia Magazine.

A Prayer for Cancer Patients

Father, we pray for all who fight cancer at this moment. We ask that you give each person the strength, courage and hope that they need to make it through this day. When they are in pain, comfort them and give them solace. As they heal, bless them and give them strength. We pray that you give all of their friends, family members and caregivers the strength to support them during this time. Please bring the doctors clarity so that they can choose the right course of treatment for each cancer patient. If it is their time to join you in everlasting life, we ask that you give the patient strength and courage. Guide our thoughts and the works of our hands so that we may comfort the sick and do your work on earth. Amen. Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father Hail Mary Glory be to the Father
