  • Developing a Content Pipeline for a Video Game
Antti Veräjänkorva Art Is A Mess: Developing A Content Pipeline for A Video Game. Metropolia University of Applied Sciences Master of Engineering Information Technology Master’s Thesis 7 July 2020 PREFACE I have a dream that I can export all art asset for a game with single button press. I have tried to achieve that a couple times already and never fully accomplished in this. This time I was even more committed to this goal than ever before. This time I was deter- mined to make the life of artists easier and do my very best. Priorities tend to change when a system is 70% done. Finding time to do the extra mile is difficult no matter how determined you are. Well to be brutally honest, still did not get the job 100% done, but I got closer than ever before! I am truly honoured for all the help what other technical artists and programmers gave me while writing this thesis. I especially want to thank David Rhodes, who is a long- time friend and colleague, for his endless support. Thank you Jukka Larja and Kimmo Ala-Ojala for eye opening discussions. I would also like to thank my wife and daughter for giving me the time to write this thesis. Thank you, Hami Arabestani and Ubisoft Redlynx for giving me the chance to write this thesis based on our current project. Lastly thank you Antti Laiho for supervising this thesis and your honest feedback while working on it. • I Creatori Di Resogun E Nex Machina Non Faranno Un Altro Arcade Shooter

  • 2D Real-Time Game Graphics Senior Project
2D Real-Time Game Graphics Senior Project Cary Dobeck CPE 462 Project Advisor: Zoë Wood Spring 2015 Abstract ‘FO Fighter is a 2D real-time game for Android and iOS mobile devices. The game utilizes the motion sensors and touch screens built within these devices to give the player a great amount of control over their character’s position and firing direction. This control allows for a reactive environment set in outer space, where gravity is determined by the device’s orientation, while the player must dodge, fight and destroy multiple enemy fighters on each planet in the solar system. ‘FO Fighter has been tested throughout its development cycle on numerous devices on both the Android and iOS platforms, with testers including pre-adolescents and young adults with various levels of gaming experience. The result is a functioning prototype that engages the user with a tutorial and three fully-formed levels. Introduction: Problem Description and Motivation. Historically, video games have been seen as a hobby for kids and young adults, and these games were designed to suit their audience. In recent years, the smartphone market has boomed and created an entirely new market of mobile gaming. Smartphones and tablets are now in the hands of billions of people spanning multiple generations, bringing video games to a much wider audience. Some of the most popular mobile games utilize innovative new controls based on the multi-touch screens and tilt gestures ubiquitous on smartphones. However, many games appeal to this wider audience who are not necessarily accustomed to a more traditional style of real-time gameplay.

Significant part of the companies develop mobile games, but there is development virtually to all existing platforms. The start- up scene is vibrant. Over 50% of the existing game companies have been established during last couple of years. The most well-known Finnish game companies are at the moment Supercell with its Clash of Clans, and Rovio with its Angry Birds, but these superstar companies are just the tip of the iceberg. • Therapeutic Video Game Recommendations How to Use This Guide
Therapeutic Video Game Recommendations How to Use This Guide The purpose of this guide is to recommend therapeutic video games for children based on their symptoms. The games recommended in this guide were curated by researchers at EEDAR, a market-leading video game research firm, in collaboration with mental health researchers at UCSD. This guide was designed as a quick reference to help caretakers quickly select games for their patients. Caretakers can reference the category that best fits the symptoms of the patient and select one of the games listed. When selecting an appropriate game, the user should first select the appropriate symptom and age category of the child, and then select a title based on the available gaming platforms at the facility. Note: Virtual Reality Games are currently not recommended by the manufacturer for children under the age of 12. Methodology EEDAR operates the largest video game attribute database in the world containing over 170 million game facts. To create the recommendations in this guide, EEDAR collaborated with mental health researchers to create a hierarchy of over one hundred game features related to positive health. EEDAR then classified thousands of video games based on these features. EEDAR then collaborated with mental health researchers to determine which features should correspond to which symptom groups. EEDAR’s proprietary recommendation technology was used to select the titles recommended in this guide. Honorable Mention Good games specifically designed for a therapeutic purpose. › I, Hope (General Action) A beautiful coming of age adventure story about a young girl named Hope, whose town has been taken over by Cancer.
