2016-2017 REPORT

Letter from the President & Executive Director

Creating a Legacy

Webster’s dictionary defines legacy as, “anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor.” The idea of building a prosperous legacy for the McCall Winter Sports Club (MWSC) is what drives our everyday actions. A true and lasting legacy cannot be built in a day, a month or even a year. Instead it is built one day at a time as we establish the building blocks and accumulate the wisdom necessary to facilitate the growth, innovation and opportunities that will make the McCall Winter Sports Club a treasured asset to this community for years to come.

In the last 5 years MWSC has experienced almost immeasurable changes, as it has grown from serving athletes in a single sport (alpine ski racing) to where it is today. In 2016 we served nearly 200 young Nordic, and freestyle skiers and snowboarders, increasing our enrollment by more than 45% over that same period . While we are proud of this accomplishment, we recognize that with growth comes responsibility. The responsibility to insure all our programs have the infrastructure necessary to insure quality communication, coaching, and delivery of services and programs to our members.

Our pledge to you is that we will continue to put those building blocks into place and will strive to accumulate the wisdom to manage the club’s growth; but in order to succeed, we will need your support more than ever. That is why for 2017 and beyond we are asking our existing supporters as well as the ski community at large to solidify your commitment to our success by becoming an official member through our first ever Membership Drive (Please see page 5 for more details).

We are confident the investments we are making will take us closer to creating an enduring legacy. Legacy grows with each new experience, new idea we deploy, and most importantly with our driving commitment to help create world class kids through winter sports. Please be a part of that success and become an official member today.

Two years ago when biathlon director Cory Corbet approached him, he immediately volunteered to host a range at Jug Mountain Ranch. Over a year's period, they determined the best location and had the range roughed ✓ ATTEND AN EVENT out in time for our first biathlon season this past winter. The location was determined based on access to the ski trails and sun exposure with the intent to have it grow to a size that could accommodate a national event. ✓ JOIN THE PARENT ADVISORY Over the years, David Carey and Jug Mountain Ranch have donated an incredible amount of time, energy and dollars towards both MWSC’s biathlon and Nordic programs.
