The Great Southern Landfill Site, outside York, Western Australia, was previously referred to as Allawuna Farm Landfill (AFL), and a Works Approval Application (WAA) was prepared by SUEZ and granted by the Department of Environment Regulation (DER) (now the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, DWER) on 17 March 2016; it was subsequently withdrawn by SUEZ. The WAA by SUEZ is publicly available on the DWER website. 2.0 PUBLICALLY AVAILABLE INFORMATION 2.1 WAA data The supporting works approval application provided the following information related to flora and fauna: Allawuna Landfill Vegetation and Fauna Assessment, ENV Australia Pty Ltd (October, 2012) (provided in Attachment A) 2.2 Summary of Information 2.2.1 Flora Golder (2015) summarised: A comprehensive Level 2 flora investigation of the proposed landfill area was undertaken by ENV Australia (2012) (Appendix K). The proposed landfill footprint differs to that considered in the flora assessment, although not significantly. The results and conclusions contained in the 2012 Vegetation and Fauna Assessment Report remain valid for the proposed landfill. -

Species Information
Species information 1 Forest Products Commission Species information Beefwood Grevillea striata Beefwood is a medium-sized tree to 14 m, usually with a single trunk and diameter up to 600 mm. Bark is deeply fissured, rough dark grey to the branches, while new bark is rufous red. It grows in the northern Goldfields, Murchison, eastern Gascoyne, southern Pilbara and the Kimberley. Wood description Heartwood is a rich red colour, and straight-grained, with distinctive rays on quartersawn timber. Sapwood is a pale yellow. Wood density Green density is about 1230 kg/m3, air-dry density about 965 kg/m3, and basic density about 820 kg/m3. Drying and shrinkage Tangential and radial shrinkage are about 3.3 and 2.0 per cent respectively. Workability Goldfields craftsmen rate beefwood as very poor for sanding, average for boring, screwholding, stability and finishing, good for machinability and gluing, and excellent for turning. Strength group and properties AS2879 rates beefwood as (S3) and (SD4), which was confirmed by the above air-dry density. The more important strength properties based on strength groups are given in the table below. Uses Aborigines used the dark hard resin as an adhesive in tool manufacture. Main Roads Western Australia Harold Road Passing Lanes (Albany Highway SLK 240.4 - 243.25) Biological Assessment August 2016 Executive summary Main Roads Western Australia is proposing to upgrade a section of Albany Highway near Kojonup in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The upgrade involves the construction of a passing lane between Straight Line Kilometre (SLK) 240.4 and 243.25 referred to as the Harold Road Passing Lane. GHD was commissioned by Main Roads to undertake a biological assessment of the Study area (17.22 ha). The purpose of the assessment was to delineate key flora, vegetation, fauna, soil, groundwater and surface water values within the Study area. This report is subject to, and must be read in conjunction with, the limitations set out in Section 1.5 and the assumptions and qualifications contained throughout the Report. The assessment determined the following key features: The survey identified two broad native vegetation types, revegetation areas and cleared (highly degraded) areas (9.98 ha). The vegetated areas include: – Eucalyptus wandoo, Allocasuarina lehmanniana and Acacia acuminata Woodland (6.93 ha) – Eucalyptus rudis Woodland (0.23 ha) – Revegetation (0.1 ha) These vegetation types align with the mapped pre-European (Beard 1979) vegetation association: ‘Medium woodland; marri & wandoo’ (Association 4). The current extent of Association 4 is below 30 % at the State and IBRA subregion level and at the local government authority level (Shire of Kojonup) The field survey did not identify the presence of any conservation significant flora species. Based on habitats present within the Study area and the known distribution of these species, 12 could possibly occur; however, these species were not recorded during the field survey The assessment recorded approximately 7.11 ha of the Critically Endangered Ecological Community, Eucalypt Woodlands of the Western Australian Wheatbelt within the Study area Where native vegetation was present it ranged in condition from Very Good (3) to Degraded-Completed Degraded (5-6).
