■ ■ Mineralogical Record Label Archive W Inventory X (Last updated July 22, 2007) _____________________________________________________________________________ The Mineralogical Record Label Archive is a collection of original, printed mineral specimen labels representing mineral collections from all countries during the last two centuries. With the possible exception of some of the great museums, it is the largest such collection in the world, with over 15,000 examples, most of which are filed alphabetically in 48 archival philatelic “stock books” or albums as shown in the photo below. The Label Archive section of the MineralogicalRecord.com website contains images of some of these labels, along with biographical or background information on the collector, dealer or institution in each case. That section, however, is a work in progress and may take quite a long time to complete. At present only a small fraction of the labels in the collection have been ■ 1 ■ Axis, Volume 1, number 10 (2005) www.MineralogicalRecord.com ■ ■ researched, scanned and posted. The inventory shown here, however, is a complete list of the collectors (i.e. the private collectors, dealers and institutions) represented in the collection. The list currently consists of 3,066 entries, some of which are cross-references (in cases where a dealership name and also the name of the dealer are present on the label). Each entry may represent a number of different design variations of the label, and in the case of some of the more important early dealers, numerous examples of the same design are included in the collection to preserve information on the kinds of specimens that dealer carried. These, along with some duplicates that are available for trading, total about 15,000 labels. Exchange offers are welcome, and we will be generous in exchanges that can provide us with labels (especially early ones) that are not listed here in our inventory. Please contact Wendell E. Wilson at [email protected]. ________________________________________________________________________ 1873 Minerals & Western Memorabilia (Herb Dick) (Santa Maria, California) 79 MINErals (George Godas and John Callahan) (Arizona) A.G.
