Officers Reports –

Chair - Simon Degler Again I’d like to thank all the County Officers for all the work they put into the running of CCAA. Because of their efforts my job becomes very easy.

Thanks again to Chris as Tournament organiser for running all the shoots and helping us make some money which supports the spending on things like the hall hire for Squad sessions and travel to conferences etc. where necessary so that people aren’t out of pocket when on official business. Shoots this year have been well-attended, with the County Outdoor event being the largest I’ve seen for many years. As stated last year Chris is still looking to stand down from the Tournament Organiser’s role after many years of service, however so far there are no names forthcoming although Chris has said that he is happy to assist during the first year to give an extended handover. We now have many tournaments (Target, Clout and now Flight) throughout the calendar and have made Penrith the main venue for the events. This helps with attracting archers from out of the County due to the ease of access via the main roads. As a suggestion the role could be potentially split between two people. One could take on Target shoots whereas someone else could take on the Clout and Flight shoots. This is just a suggestion if someone out there feels the role to be too daunting to do on their own seeing the number of events which are put on over the year.

As a thank-you to Chris and to recognise his services to the sport I completed the necessary forms to nominate him to Archery GB for the Hartwell Trophy, which he won. Well done Chris.

Squad sessions are generally well attended (there have been a couple of exceptions where there have been clashes, but that can be expected). Duncan Busby came up for a weekend to help our compound archers. This was well received by all who attended. I attended one of the days out of interest and found it fascinating. We are looking to do a similar event for recurve archers next year using Alan Wills.

Ru has developed a new team T shirt which looks fantastic. I’m looking forward to seeing us shooting in it next year.

Congratulations to Alan Wills who set a world record earlier this year and came 6th at the World Field Championships. Alan also scored the top score in the BA Postal League for (I think) the 8th year running, but this time managed that elusive perfect 600 for the first time. Well done. Alan is still an inspiration to us all.

Chairman’s note: did NCAS award Alan £100 for representing GB and similarly did CCAA match that £100 as we have done in the past?

Thanks also go to Jim for the work he’s put in to starting off new clubs and introducing more members to the sport. Not only is he widening the interest having more County members helps to bring in more revenue from annual subs and potential tournament entries.

I am willing to stand for another year should the rest of the Committee be happy that I do so.

Matters arising from Chairman’s report The score of 600 by Alan was queried as to if it was a new record. It was only a score for the Postal League, it wasn’t shot at a Record Status event.

Vice Chair - Freya Wise Post Meeting Note (abridged): Craig and I organised an Alf Davies memento medal for Ray before we took the trophy off him. Craig is waiting for a receipt from the engravers to send to Chrissey.

Secretary - Stuart Burnett It’s been a fairly quiet year, with no meetings since the AGM in November 2015.

I have attended NCAS Committee Meeting on 23rd January, and 19th November. I was unable to attend the NCAS AMG on 19th March or the meeting on 7th May, due to personal circumstances. The Minutes of all meetings were circulated by email, as soon as they were available.

I am happy to continue as County Secretary for another year.

Treasurer - Chrissey Burnett

CCAA have made a profit during 2015-16 in line with previous years. Affiliation fee income appears to have significantly increased, however this is due to timing of receiving and banking affiliation cheques at the end of the year 2014-15 and is in line with 2013/14. Shoot income is stable thanks to Chris’s efforts providing well supported County competitions.

Expenditure on equipment has increased due to 60th Anniversary medals as agreed last AGM and better recording in the accounts spreadsheet. Archers expenses are stable. Expenditure associated with County held shoots have increased due to slight increases in equipment hire, transport and venue hire.

Coaching costs are up due to additional compound coaching weekend with Duncan Busby but is on par with 2014 on last year as a number level 1 courses have been funded. Cost for Squad training days have included the expenses for the Duncan Busby compound training weekend.

I will attempt to answer any questions but I may have to review information in the records and provide an answer after the meeting.

County Coaching Organiser - Gary Pimblett This year we have run a Level 1 course gaining the county another 5 level 1 coaches, well done to all concerned. I have been asked to run another level 1 next spring/summer if we get enough interest, I need numbers by the end of January and full payment by end February. Would anyone have members interested in doing a Level2/3 mixed course next autumn. If we can get a least 1 level 3 coach in the county we can have our own review panel.

I hope to get more involved with the squad next year.

I am more than happy to stay as CCO.

Tournament Organiser - Chris Battersby Its that time again as I continue lurching from one competition to another to give a report on how they have gone this year.

Firstly I will list the County Tournaments February Indoor Champs, March Frostbite, May WRS Fita plus County outdoor champs, July two day Fita Clout champs, August Flight champs, October WRS WA18 + HtH and finally November WRS Combined W A25 WA18. These shoots have all run very well with just the outdoor county champs being low on numbers and to this end next year there will be a slight change to try and increase the attendance at this shoot. The county outdoor championships will be held at Maryport a fortnight before the normal date with that weekend changing to a WRS WA1440 on Saturday and a double WRS 720 on the Sunday which hopefully will stop the drop in numbers from Saturday to Sunday and will also give us another WRS shoot in the county.

The main disappointment this year has been the reduction in the numbers of Juniors at the shoots and this seems to be the same in a lot of counties, no one seems to know why. Is there anything we can do to encourage more to attend as this is where they gain the experience of shooting with those better than them or not quite as good as them.

I would like to say thank you to all those who have helped me this year with all the preparation work in moving equipment and setting it up makes my life a bit easier and less stressful. Hopefully this will continue.

Matters arising from Tournament Organisers report There was some discussion about the outdoor county champs and involving more juniors. Only 17 county archers attended the outdoor county champs last year. If we didn’t have visitors for out of the County, it wouldn’t pay for itself. Please encourage more archers to take part, including Juniors. It was commented that some think “I’m not good enough” but the reply to that was that shooting against someone better helps people to improve.

County Squad Manager - Ru Lochlea As always the Squad try their best and achieve personal bests and also some county records.

The Pentangle was a good turnout and a great success for the recurve Gents team with them achieving second in the team event. In all, the squad members shot well and enjoyed a great days shooting.

As always we lack members in Ladies Compound and also have difficulty generally gathering teams together.

The 5 Counties Junior day The juniors shot well as always and again we struggled here gathering full teams in girls compound and recurve and also longbow. Next year will bring less to the boys junior recurve because we lose Tom Alexander when he moves to the Gents category from this year.

The 5 Counties Adult day We had 2 full teams in Gents compound and recurve which I also consider to be strong teams. All the squad performed wee and enjoyed a good days shooting.

The compound professional coaching day was hugely successful and welcomed by the compound archers, I think we all gained some valuable training and information.

To follow on from the compound coaching day I’d like to propose that we offer the same professional coaching day to our recurve archers. I’d like Alan Wills to come along and provide some coaching and advice to a select number of our recurve archers as we did the compounders.

Matters arising from Squad Managers report There was a question about gents recurve teams, but it was said that is not normally a problem to gather a team.

County Records – Craig Benson 2016 has been another good year for county records, with archers setting records then beating them later in the year, the same as last year, well done to everyone that has achieved a record, there have been 68 in total, down from last year but maybe the standard is just getting higher, the juniors have the most again with 38 so the seniors will have to try harder next year to redress the balance, 30 for the seniors.

The records are split as follows,

Indoor, 17. Outdoor target, 17. Field, 10. Clout, 16 and Flight,8, with 3 juniors for the first time.

The top three clubs with the most records this time are, Sellafield -18, Eagle – 14, Millom -13.

As I mention every year there are people who have missed out on records, usually juniors, this is due to a lack of information on results sheets, I need to know who shot what round with what bow and what age group the archer is, also archer’s clubs must be listed, I don’t know every archer in the county, so cannot guess they are from Cumbria, this is a minimum standard for all results sheets,

I have been quite busy with other things this year so have not got the records updated as often as I would like, also apologies for not getting all the certificates done, my printer stopped working on the last batch so I will have to send the rest on..

I am happy to carry on with the job, and look forward to more to do next year.

Matters arising from County Records report Tony handed out some certificates at the shoot preceding this meeting. See Appendix B for new county records.

Child Protection - Jim Skivington Nothing to Report. If anyone requires any training, just contact me.

Public Relations - Chris Battersby If anyone has anything to put on the web-site, just send it to me. The County Records will be going on the web-site. NCAS pays for the web-site; the County pays for the name.

Junior Officer - Jasmine Tideswell No report.

NCAS Rep - Chris Battersby I have attended 3 of the four meetings this year due to being flooded I missed the January meeting. The main objective this year has been the NCAS Treasurer’s quest to reduce its income but still seems to struggle due to the increase in member’s numbers. Further membership costs will change next year (if passed by the AGM) to bring us in line with Archery GB fees i.e. juniors & disable fees. Due to my change in office at NCAS we need to elect another representative to take my place, Andy Carr has stood in for the last two meetings. At the last AGM I was elected Vice Chairman hence the need for a change, also this will increase Cumbria’s influence on the committee which can only be a good thing for the county. One of the items we have discussed in great details this year has been the cost of Judges both new and old attending conferences at Lilleshall which are now compulsory. Al judges Regional and above must attend a national conference at least once every four years and candidate judges must attend one prior to becoming a county judge plus once achieved the judge is required to purchase a uniform which must be worn at all competitions they officiate at. It was mentioned that possibly Counties could be asked if they would help out with the costs for candidate judges and NACS to contribute to the regional judges costs. This is not an instruction just a request if possible. NCAS will pay the £75 overnight stay plus travel expenses for once in four years attendance at National Conference and are looking at either paying the overnight fee or travel expenses for the candidate judges. County judges can attend the regional conference but at their own cost along with other judges and NCAS will pay for the venue and buffet lunch. Cumbria has been very supportive of the three judges that we have with the costs of the new uniforms and it is possible that we could look at further help as and when required by possibly working out a policy for this that will help un the future.

Matters arising from NCAS Reps report

It was asked if NCAS could pay more for judges, and for coaching courses.

60-Year Commemorative Medals – reminder to all clubs: please contact Chris Battersby with the numbers of members affiliated to CCAA, if you haven’t already done so.

Membership Fees: It was voted on unanimously to change the pro-rata calculation for fees to match Archery GB i.e. half-yearly rather than quarterly as previously. This affects the wording of Clause 21 in our Constitution. It was suggested that the County affiliation fees could be put on the web-site. (Post meeting note: updated Constitution to be circulated with minutes of AGM and put on the CCAA web-site.)

Candidate Judges: It was voted on unanimously to cover any travelling expenses for Candidate Judges attending a national judges conference. This is a requirement of Archery GB, and only the attendance fees are met by NCAS.

Self-assessment of Archery ranges: Clubs were reminded of the new requirement from Archery GB to perform a self-assessment of their shooting ranges, and send the results to Archery GB.

Meeting Closed at 5:40pm
