E-mail: [email protected] Abstract In the present study, a checklist of new records of the family Chalcididae of Egypt is presented based on a total of 180 specimens collected from 24 different Egyptian localities between June 2011 and October 2016, mostly by sweeping and Malaise traps. Nineteen species as well as the subfamily Epitraninae and the genera Bucekia Steffan, Epitranus Walker, Proconura Dodd, and Tanycoryphus Cameron, are newly recorded from Egypt. A single species previously placed in the genus Hockeria is transferred to Euchalcis Dufour as E. rufula (Nikol’skaya, 1960) comb. nov. Key words: Parasitic wasps, Chalcidinae, Dirhininae, Epitraninae, Haltichellinae, new records, new combination Introduction The Chalcididae (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea) is a medium-sized family represented by more than 1500 described species in 93 genera (Aguiar et al. 2013; Noyes 2017; Abul-Sood et al. 2018). A large number of described species are classified in the genus Brachymeria Westwood (about 21%), followed by Conura Spinola (20.3%) (Noyes 2017). -

Due to fragility or inadequate length of fangs, only a limited number of species are capable of inflicting noticeable wounds on human beings, although several small species of spiders are able to bite humans, but with little or no demonstrable effect. The final determination of etiology of 80% of suspected spider bites in the U.S. is, in fact, an alternate diagnosis. Therefore the perceived risk of spider bites far exceeds actual risk. Tick bites, chemical burns, lesions from poison ivy or oak, cutaneous anthrax, diabetic ulcer, erythema migrans from Lyme disease, erythema from Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, sporotrichosis, Staphylococcus infections, Stephens Johnson syndrome, syphilitic chancre, thromboembolic effects of Leishmaniasis, toxic epidermal necrolyis, shingles, early chicken pox lesions, bites from other arthropods and idiopathic dermal necrosis have all been misdiagnosed as spider bites. Almost all bites from spiders are inflicted by the spider in self defense, when a human inadvertently upsets or invades the spider’s space. Of spiders in the United States capable of biting, only a few are considered dangerous to human beings. The tribe Aelurillini (7 genera, 27 species) is represented in 16 states and in 2 union territories, Euophryini (10 genera, 16 species) in 14 states and in 4 union territories, Leptorchestini (2 genera, 3 species) only in 2 union territories, Plexippini (22 genera, 73 species) in all states except Mizoram and in 3 union territories, and Salticini (3 genera, 11 species) in 15 states and in 4 union terrioties. West Bengal harbours maximum number of species, followed by Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. Out of 129 species of the spiders listed, 70 species (54.3%) are endemic to India. Keywords: Aelurillini, Euophryini, India, Leptorchestini, Plexippini, Salticidae, Simonida. INTRODUCTION Hisponinae, Lyssomaninae, Onomastinae, Spiders are chelicerate arthropods belonging to Salticinae and Spartaeinae. Out of all the order Araneae of class Arachnida. Till to date subfamilies, Salticinae comprises 93.7% of the 48,804 described species under 4,180 genera and species (5818 species, 576 genera, including few 128 families (WSC, 2020). -

Development of the Cursorial Spider, Cheiracanthium inclusum (Araneae: Miturgidae), on Eggs of Helicoverpa zea (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)1 R. S. Sci. 43(4): 418422 (October 2008) Abstract Development of the cursorial spider, Cheiracanthium inclusum (Hentz) (Araneae: Miturgidae), from emergence to maturity on a diet of eggs of the lepidopteran pest Helicoverpa zea (Boddie) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) was characterized. Cheiracanthium inclusum developed to adulthood with no mortality while feeding on a diet solely of H. zea eggs and water. The number of instars to adulthood varied from 4-5 for males and from 4-6 for females, although most males (84.6%) and females (66.7%) required 5 instars. Males and females took a similar time to become adults (54.2 ± 4.0 and 53.9 ± 2.0 days, respectively). Egg consumption was similar between males and females for the first 4 instars, but differed for the 51 instar and for the total number of eggs consumed to reach adulthood (651.0 ± 40.3 and 866.5 ± 51.4 eggs for males and females, respectively). Individual consumption rates suggest the potential for high impact of C. inclusum individuals on pest populations. Development was faster and survival greater than in previous studies of C. inc/usum development. Key Words spider development, egg predation Spiders have been observed feeding on lepidopteran eggs in several crops (re- viewed by Nyffeler et al. 1990), but only recently has the frequency of these obser- vations (Pfannenstiel and Yeargan 2002, Pfartnenstiel 2005, 2008) suggested that lepidopteran eggs may be a common prey item for some families of cursorial spiders. -
Hygropetric and Litter-Inhabiting Spiders (Araneae) from the Abruzzo Apennines (Central Italy)

Mitt. 37: 15-26 Nürnberg, Juli 2009 Hygropetric and litter-inhabiting spiders (Araneae) from the Abruzzo Apennines (Central Italy) Marco Isaia, Giuseppe Osella & Giovanna Pannunzio Abstract: We present the results of a study of spider material extracted by means of Berlese apparatus from wet mosses and by litter sieving in broadleaf woods within several natural reserves of the Abruzzo region (Central Italy). The main aim of the work is to contribute to the knowledge of the spider fauna of the Apen- nines; currently one of the lesser known in Italy. In total, 520 spiders, belonging to 49 species and 14 families were collected. The most abundant and diverse family was Linyphiidae, with 278 individuals belonging to 22 species. Altogether we provide 28 new records for the Abruzzo region, including two species of Theridiidae, twenty of Linyphiidae, four of Hahniidae and two of Thomisidae. We also present additional unpublished records of several rare, litter-inhabiting species collected by litter sieving in the same area. Data on habitat preferences and details on the Italian distribution of the rarest species are presented. This habitat is colonised including details on their Italian distribution and mainly by bryophytes (mosses and peat-mosses) habitat preference. and often harbours unique assemblages of arthro- pods, characterised by endemic or rare species. -

Box 530, El-Maadi, Cairo, Egypt Corresponding author email address: [email protected] ABSTRACT The present work deals with geology, geochemistry, radioactivity and tectonic environment of the granitic and volcanic rocks at Hadarba area, South Eastern Desert of Egypt. The granitic rocks comprise tonalite-granodiorite and monzogranite, while volcanic rocks include rhyolite, rhyodacite anddacite. These rocks are characterized by high concentrations of SiO2, Na2O, Fe2O3, K2O, Zr, Nb and Y but low in MgO, CaO, Cr, Ni, Sr, Ga and V. Field studies indicate that Dokhan volcanics extrude both tonalite-granodiorite and monzogranite with sharp contact forming a thick successive sequence of laminated acid lava flows, crystal lapilli tuffs and agglomerates. They range in composition from rhyolite, rhyodacite to dacite. Shear zone comprise lines–arranged intrusions trending NE-SW direction were recorded north Gabal Hadarba and extends for about 2.3 km in length with a width reaches up to 10 meter. These lines–arranged intrusions include quartz vein, microgranite and basic dykes. These shear zones cut through monzogranite. Petrochemical studies and tectonic discrimination diagrams for the monzogranite reveal that it is classified as granite developed in the within-plate tectonic environment, while Dokhan volcanics are classified as rhyolite and dacite developed in the immature island arcs and active continental margin environments.Field radiometric measurements of these granitic and volcanic rocks reveal low uranium and thorium contents. -

El-Hennawy 41 El-Manteqa Abstract: El-Rabia St., Heliopolis, Elba protected area is a unique area with a variety of habitats. Its fauna is Cairo 11341 rich with numerous vertebrate and invertebrate species. The arachnids of this Egypt area are here studied for the first time. Specimens of five arachnid orders e-mail: [email protected] were collected during nine trips to different places in the area (June 1994 - November 2000). The collection contains 28 species of 16 families of Order Araneae, 1 species of family Phalangiidae of Order Opiliones, 2 species of family Olpiidae of Order Pseudoscorpiones, 4 species of 3 families of Order Solifugae, and 7 species of family Buthidae of Order Scorpiones. We have interpreted this in a broad sense, so that all islands from Trinidad to the Bahamas have been included. Furthermore, we have included Bermuda, even though it is well north of the Caribbean region proper, as a more logical extension of the island fauna rather than the continental North American fauna. This was mentioned by Banks (1902b) nearly a century ago. Country or region (e. g., pantropical) records are included for those species which have broader ranges than the Caribbean area. We have not specifically included the islands of the Florida Keys, even though these could legitimately be included in the Caribbean region, because the known fauna is mostly continental. However, when Florida is known as the only continental U.S.A. -

(Democratic Republic of Congo), C. falcis sp. nov. (Ga- bon), C. foordi sp. nov. (South Africa), C. ghanaense sp. nov. (Ghana), C. kabalense sp. nov. (Uganda), C. kakamega sp. nov. (Kenya), C. kakumense sp. nov. (Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Ghana), C. lukiense sp. nov. (Demo- cratic Republic of Congo), C. mayombense sp. nov. (Democratic Republic of Congo), C. shilabira sp. nov. (Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya) and C. tanzanense sp. nov. (Tanzania) are described. Males of C. punctipedellum Caporiacco, 1949, C. sansibaricum Strand, 1907 and C. schenkeli Caporiacco, 1949 are described for the first time. Key words: Afrotropical region, taxonomy, distribution Introduction Ramírez (2014) elevated Eutichuridae to family and included 12 genera, of which four, Cheiracanthium C.L. Koch, 1839, Cheiramiona Lotz & Dippenaar-Schoeman, 1999, Lessertina Lawrence, 1942 and Tecution Benoit, 1977 are represented in the Afrotropical Region. The genus Cheiracanthium includes 196 species distributed throughout the world except for the Polar Regions (World Spider Catalogue, 2014). In the Afrotropical Region the genus Cheiracanthium is presently represented by 49 species (Lotz 2007a, 2007b, 2011, 2014), distributed mostly on the eastern half of the region and in the equatorial belt, between 10 degrees north and south.
