It’s the summer of 1984 – Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is on strike. At the Gay Pride March in London, a group of gay and lesbian activists decides to raise money to support the families of the striking miners. But there is a problem. The Union seems embarrassed to receive their support. But the activists are not deterred. They decide to ignore the Union and go direct to the miners. They identify a mining village in deepest Wales and set off in a mini bus to make their donation in person. And so begins the extraordinary story of how two wholly different communities come together for a common cause. “ a terrific British film that is set to be the next THE FULL MONTY… PRIDE is going to make a serious dent in the coming awards season.” “PRIDE is an impassioned and distinctly loveable movie… warm and witty, with terrific performances….” “Indescribably wonderful.” International press: Freud - [email protected] TERRITORIES AVAILABLE - WORLD EXCLUDING: Australia, Austria, Benelux, Canada, Czech Republic & Slovakia, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Scandinavia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, UK, US UK & French Distributor: Pathe - UK release date: 12th September 2014 - French release date: 17th September 2014 US Distributor: CBS US release date: 19th September 2014 DELIVERY DATE: Deliverable 05 OFFICIAL SELECTION GALA CHAPTER 2 - PATHÉ PRODUCTION - ORANGE STUDIO - JOUROR DÉVELOPPEMENT - © Mika Cotellon © 2013 Thriller – 120 mins NORSEAN PLUS - PARADISE LOST FILM A.I.E - NEXUS FACTORY ESCOBAR: PARADISE LOST DIRECTOR CAST OFFICIAL SCREENINGS Andrea Di Stefano Benicio Del Toro (Traffic, 21 Grams, Snatch) Thursday 11/09 – 9.30PM Roy Thomson Hall Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games, The Third Rule) Friday 12/09 – 11.30AM Visa Screening Room/Elgin SCREENPLAY Carlos Bardem (Cell 211, Che: Part Two) Saturday 13/09 – 4.00PM Scotiabank 1 Andrea Di Stefano Brady Corbet (Melancholia, Funny Games) PRIVATE SCREENING (BUYERS ONLY) PRODUCER Ana Girardot (Cloclo) Friday 05/09 – 9.30AM TBLB 7* Dimitri Rassam (The Scapegoat, What’s In A Name?) These women were not primarily from the genteel educated classes, they were working women who had seen peaceful protest achieve nothing. Radicalized and turning to violence as the only route to change, they were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality - their jobs, their homes, their children and their lives. MAUD was one such foot soldier. The story of her fight for dignity is as gripping and visceral as any thriller, it is also heart-breaking and inspirational. FinalProject 25/08/2018, 930 PM COGS108 Final Project Group Members: Yanyi Wang Ziwen Zeng Lingfei Lu Yuhan Wang Yuqing Deng Introduction and Background Movie revenue is one of the most important measure of good and bad movies. Revenue is also the most important and intuitionistic feedback to producers, directors and actors. Therefore it is worth for us to put effort on analyzing what factors correlate to revenue, so that producers, directors and actors know how to get higher revenue on next movie by focusing on most correlated factors. Our project focuses on anaylzing all kinds of factors that correlated to revenue, for example, genres, elements in the movie, popularity, release month, runtime, vote average, vote count on website and cast etc. After analysis, we can clearly know what are the crucial factors to a movie's revenue and our analysis can be used as a guide for people shooting movies who want to earn higher renveue for their next movie. They can focus on those most correlated factors, for example, shooting specific genre and hire some actors who have higher average revenue. Reasrch Question: Various factors blend together to create a high revenue for movie, but what are the most important aspect contribute to higher revenue? • Contemporary Maghrebi-French Cinema and Its Audiences
Postcolonial Popcorn: Contemporary Maghrebi-French Cinema and its Audiences by Alexander Hastie A Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfilment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Department of Geography The University of Sheffield December 2017 Abstract This thesis is a study of popular contemporary postcolonial cinema, through readings of three recent Maghrebi-French films. The research is comprised of the films Days of Glory (2006), Outside the Law (2010) and Free Men (2011), which narrate unfamiliar colonial stories in familiar ways. The films are a significant part of a cultural and commercial ‘shift’ toward more mainstream filmmaking in France, and therefore provide a fascinating and complex point of entry into the study of popular postcolonial cinema. By incorporating the popular into the postcolonial, the primary contribution of this thesis is that it extends the scope of postcolonial cultural criticism, in order to highlight how such an engagement functions to interrupt hegemonic imaginaries of colonial space, memory and gender. Informed by a postcolonial critique, this thesis deploys textual analysis in order to investigate how the films are textually constituted across and through different cultural frameworks, questioning what this means for conceptualising postcolonialism. Primarily investigating the ways in which the films rewrite colonial histories using the genre conventions of Hollywood, this thesis attends to issues pertinent to postcolonial France. The thesis therefore identifies some of the key relationships to space that are narrated throughout the films, in which geographies of belonging and exclusion for Maghrebi- French people are articulated through popular aesthetics. An important part of articulating place is memory, and so this thesis also examines how occluded memories are mobilised and energised at the intersection with more familiar historical imaginaries, showing how this multidirectional relationship works to situate colonial histories in ways that are disruptive of World War Two imaginaries.
