Audi R8 LMS Wins Again at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife
Communications Motorsport Jürgen Pippig Eva-Maria Veith Telephone: +49 (0)841 89 34200 Telephone: +49 (0)841 89 33922 E-Mail: [email protected] E-Mail: [email protected] www.audi-motorsport.info Audi R8 LMS wins again at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife • Phoenix Racing wins the GT3 class in the 24h race • No luck during the race in fight for overall victory • Only two of the seven Audi R8 LMS on the grid make the finish Ingolstadt/Nürburg, May 16, 2010 – The Audi R8 LMS remains as best in class in the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife: Also during its second outing in the “green hell”, the world's longest and toughest race track, the mid-engine sportscar crossed the finish line as winner of the GT3 class (SP9). With third place overall in Phoenix Racing's Audi LMS R8 Marc Bronzel (Siek), Luca Ludwig (Roisdorf), Dennis Rostek (Porta Westfalica) and Markus Winkelhock (Berglen) presented the team with an unexpected surprise since this quartet did not even number among the favorites before the race started. The conservative and mechanically easy going driving style of the Phoenix squad, however, paid dividends: The Audi R8 LMS with start number 97 ran – apart from a small electronical problem during the opening stages – with the smallest technical problem. Of particular note was the performance of DTM driver Markus Winkelhock, who, after only landing a drive in the Phoenix team at the last moment, drove constantly fast lap times without any experience of the Nordschleife and in the closing stages convincingly defended the class lead. -
Press Release March 8, 2019
Press Release March 8, 2019 Preview, World Endurance Championship WEC, round 6 in Sebring/USA Porsche aims for victory at the FIA WEC’s return to Sebring Stuttgart. Porsche tackles the first Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC race at Sebring since 2012 as the points’ leader. After five of the season’s eight rounds, the works team with its two ca. 510 hp Porsche 911 RSR ranks first in the manufactur- ers’, drivers’ and team categories. Three customer squads field four other identical vehicle models in the GTE-Am category. With the WEC held as a joint event alongside the North American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship from March 13-16, a total of eight Porsche 911 RSR vehicles will be competing on the legendary Sebring circuit. The race Sebring has hosted the Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC only once since the launch of the series. In 2012, works drivers Marc Lieb (Germany), Richard Lietz (Austria) and Patrick Pilet (France) finished in second place. In the long history of endurance racing at Sebring, Porsche is by far the most successful manufacturer, with a total of 18 overall victories going to the marque from Weissach. The most recent victory was in 2008 thanks to Timo Bernhard (Germany), Romain Dumas (France) and Emmanuel Collard (France) at the wheel of a Porsche RS Spyder. The Porsche GT Team drivers Richard Lietz (Austria) and Gianmaria Bruni (Italy) tackle the 1,000-mile race (or eight hours) with the No. 91 Porsche 911 RSR car. The pair achieved second place at the Shanghai round of the 2018/2019 Super Season. -

In Touch the Official Magazine of Dunlop Motorsport [ ] Le Mans Race Edition
IN TOUCH THE OFFICIAL MAGAZINE OF DUNLOP MOTORSPORT [ www.injection.tv ] LE MANS RACE EDITION Dunlop came away from the Le Mans 24 hours delighted with the performance of its dry and light wet tyres after a difficult race in which the changing condi- tions contributed to the overall result. “We were pretty competitive in all conditions other than full wet conditions,” says Dunlop’s chief tyre technician Matthew Simpson of the LMP2 tyres. “On the slick tyres and the light wet tyres, we had a performance advantage, but in full wet conditions we struggled to get temperature into our compounds. The Essex car had engine trouble so we were never going to do better than we did, but we have to look at the tyre perform- ance in wet conditions and make it better. “The Virgo Ferrari team were very strong and our development construction at the rear allowed us to double stint safely. There was no sign of difficulty in doing so, and there was zero deterioration from the first lap to the last in a double stint, according to the drivers. Le Mans podiums for Essex Perhaps we could have triple stinted, but we didn’t test that before the race and during the race was not the time to try. Porsche and Farnbacher Ferrari “The Creation team had four punctures and three of them were caused by debris. There was not enough left of the tyre to establish the cause of the fourth.” The 2008 edition of the Le Mans 24 hours produced was difficult to drive because sometimes the power was everything from a record breaking qualifying and race there, other times it wasn’t and we couldn’t know what to John Nielsen, Casper Elgaard and Sascha Maassen pace, a record crowd of 258,500 turning out in eager expect. -

Redwood Region Newsletter Newsletter
Laura and Dan Boeschen, Peter Grauman, Penni Gladstone, Greg Fuller... My Week at Daytona with The Racer's Group David Bunch As many of you know, I was given the opportunity go to Daytona Beach Florida for the Grand Am Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona with fellow Redwood Region member Kevin Buckler's The Racers Group. TRG had entered seven GT3 Cup Porsches in the 24 Hour race and three 997's in the Koni Challenge race. What is involved in this type of effort, I will try to tell you. Well, it starts out with 7 brand new GT3's, some that TRG picked up in Florida when in town for the December test at Daytona. When these brand new GT3's arrive at the TRG shop in Petaluma they are taken apart and reassembled to TRG's specifics. Also there is the work on the new 997's to get them ready. To get these ten Porsches to Daytona for the races require a convoy of three semi-trailers and three two-car trailers. Not only having to haul ten Porsches, but spare body parts, engines, mechanics tool boxes, tires, six sets of rims per car, boxes of TRG apparel (shirts, sweaters, t-shirts, jackets, fire suits, hats) and everything else for the effort. For a race lasting 24 hours, each car needs 4 or 5 drivers. Some of the drivers were professional drivers who make a living at this, and some were "gentleman" drivers who have driven in different club races etc. TRG had entered 33 drivers including four factory drivers from Porsche.
