With third place overall in Phoenix Racing's Audi LMS R8 Marc Bronzel (Siek), Luca Ludwig (Roisdorf), Dennis Rostek (Porta Westfalica) and Markus Winkelhock (Berglen) presented the team with an unexpected surprise since this quartet did not even number among the favorites before the race started. The conservative and mechanically easy going driving style of the Phoenix squad, however, paid dividends: The Audi R8 LMS with start number 97 ran – apart from a small electronical problem during the opening stages – with the smallest technical problem. Of particular note was the performance of DTM driver Markus Winkelhock, who, after only landing a drive in the Phoenix team at the last moment, drove constantly fast lap times without any experience of the Nordschleife and in the closing stages convincingly defended the class lead.

Hugues de Chaunac’s Editorial The upcoming 88th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, to be held in September and behind closed doors this year, is shaping up to be a special one for ORECA. Our teams and I are particularly proud to see 20 ORECA 07 chassis entered in the LMP2 class. This record makes us the most represented constructor on the starting grid of the most iconic endurance race in the world! Two Rebellion R-13 are expected in LMP1 as well. The Rebellion Racing team’s stunning victory and double podium finish at the first-ever 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual has inspired us to raise the bar even higher for the actual race. Since 2012, we have made available to TOYOTA GAZOO Racing the breadth of our experience and client services through operational support, and our mechanics and engineers.

The race Sebring has hosted the Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC only once since the launch of the series. In 2012, works drivers Marc Lieb (Germany), Richard Lietz (Austria) and Patrick Pilet (France) finished in second place. In the long history of endurance racing at Sebring, Porsche is by far the most successful manufacturer, with a total of 18 overall victories going to the marque from Weissach. IN TOUCH THE OFFICIAL MAGAZINE OF DUNLOP MOTORSPORT [ www.injection.tv ] LE MANS RACE EDITION Dunlop came away from the Le Mans 24 hours delighted with the performance of its dry and light wet tyres after a difficult race in which the changing condi- tions contributed to the overall result. “We were pretty competitive in all conditions other than full wet conditions,” says Dunlop’s chief tyre technician Matthew Simpson of the LMP2 tyres. “On the slick tyres and the light wet tyres, we had a performance advantage, but in full wet conditions we struggled to get temperature into our compounds. The Essex car had engine trouble so we were never going to do better than we did, but we have to look at the tyre perform- ance in wet conditions and make it better. “The Virgo Ferrari team were very strong and our development construction at the rear allowed us to double stint safely. There was no sign of difficulty in doing so, and there was zero deterioration from the first lap to the last in a double stint, according to the drivers. Le Mans podiums for Essex Perhaps we could have triple stinted, but we didn’t test that before the race and during the race was not the time to try. Porsche and Farnbacher Ferrari “The Creation team had four punctures and three of them were caused by debris. There was not enough left of the tyre to establish the cause of the fourth.” The 2008 edition of the Le Mans 24 hours produced was difficult to drive because sometimes the power was everything from a record breaking qualifying and race there, other times it wasn’t and we couldn’t know what to John Nielsen, Casper Elgaard and Sascha Maassen pace, a record crowd of 258,500 turning out in eager expect.

  • Redwood Region Newsletter Newsletter
Laura and Dan Boeschen, Peter Grauman, Penni Gladstone, Greg Fuller... My Week at Daytona with The Racer's Group David Bunch As many of you know, I was given the opportunity go to Daytona Beach Florida for the Grand Am Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona with fellow Redwood Region member Kevin Buckler's The Racers Group. TRG had entered seven GT3 Cup Porsches in the 24 Hour race and three 997's in the Koni Challenge race. What is involved in this type of effort, I will try to tell you. Well, it starts out with 7 brand new GT3's, some that TRG picked up in Florida when in town for the December test at Daytona. When these brand new GT3's arrive at the TRG shop in Petaluma they are taken apart and reassembled to TRG's specifics. Also there is the work on the new 997's to get them ready. To get these ten Porsches to Daytona for the races require a convoy of three semi-trailers and three two-car trailers. Not only having to haul ten Porsches, but spare body parts, engines, mechanics tool boxes, tires, six sets of rims per car, boxes of TRG apparel (shirts, sweaters, t-shirts, jackets, fire suits, hats) and everything else for the effort. For a race lasting 24 hours, each car needs 4 or 5 drivers. Some of the drivers were professional drivers who make a living at this, and some were "gentleman" drivers who have driven in different club races etc. TRG had entered 33 drivers including four factory drivers from Porsche.
