You are put on notice that in many cases local police departments and/or park police near bonus locations have been notified of our approximate arrival time in their area. In order to be scored, you must present this bonus listing and fuel log. You are free to tear apart and remove any pages that are not needed (for example, if you decide to skip all of the bonuses on page 9, you may remove that page). However, if you lose a page from the bonus listing you may not claim any bonuses on that page. If you lose a fuel log page there is also a 150 point penalty to obtain a replacement. IMPORTANT CAUTION: The following bonus locations are like a restaurant menu. If you order everything on the menu and eat it, you are going to get sick and perhaps die. Page 1 of 43 2009 IBR Leg 2 St. Charles, Illinois to Santa Ana, California Checkpoint Information The next checkpoint is Sunday, August 30, 9pm to 11pm Doubletree Hotel Santa Ana/Orange County Airport 201 East MacArthur Boulevard Santa Ana, CA 92707 Rally staff will be available at 4 pm for early check-in. Time penalty begins 9:00:01 pm. After 9:00:00 pm there will be a 20-point per minute penalty for being late. "Minutes" will be rounded up at one second past the key time. For example, 9:00:01 (one second past 9:00 pm) will be counted as 1 minute late. Any rider who arrives after 11:00:00 pm (beginning 11:00:01 pm) will not be considered a rally finisher. Bonus listings will be handed out at 4:00 am Monday, August 31, 2009, for the next leg of the rally. Riders may depart upon receipt of paperwork. Page 2 of 43 2009 IBR Leg 2 St. Charles, Illinois to Santa Ana, California * * * * * BEGIN BONUS INFORMATION * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Illinois to California – Leg 2 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * A maximum of 1,500 points total is available for fuel purchase records. To obtain points for fuel purchase records, riders must submit a receipt for every fuel purchase with the following information on the receipt: 1) location (city/town and state/province), 2) date, 3) time, and 4) volume (gallons or liters) purchased. If any of the required information is not printed on a receipt, it must be hand written on the receipt. Any error in the printed date should also be corrected by hand. (Errors in the printed time need not be corrected IF YOU ARE KEEPING A FUEL LOG.) Also, write the telephone number of the station on the receipt if you correct an error other than a time error. Riders of motorcycles with a fuel capacity of 7.0 or more U.S. gallons also must complete the "fuel log" sheet provided in this leg‘s rally package. The fuel log requires all of the same information as required on fuel receipts plus the odometer reading and the correct time the purchase was made. Remember that no points for fuel purchase records will be awarded to any rider that refuels between checking in and starting the next leg. Document this stop as follows: ___ at the start of the rest period, obtain a machine generated receipt with date and time from a location, for example, a gas station, a motel, a store, etc. ___ at the end of the rest period, obtain a dated, time receipt from the same or nearby location in the same town. Our preference is that you also include your motel receipt with this bonus if you motel it, however, it is not required. WARNING: We are giving you wide latitude on this bonus with few restrictions so that you may have the flexibility to use it as needed. However, we want to stress that if you are caught bending the rules in the slightest, you will be expelled from the rally. This bonus DOES NOT mean ‗get a receipt and go collect bonuses.‘ It means stop and rest. Green served at various times as justice of the peace, canal commissioner, doorkeeper of the Illinois House of Representatives, judge of elections, county commissioner, sheriff, and candidate for the state senate.i He was known as a gifted spinner of yarns and “a whole-souled, jovial sort of fellow” who “took the world easy and cared little as to what transpired” so long as “a side of bacon hung in the smokehouse, and the meal barrel was full.” During Lincoln’s early days in New Salem, he boarded at Green’s house, which “was ever full of visitors,” for Green “would never allow a caller to leave until he had crossed his feet under the table.”ii i James Short to Herndon, Petersburg, Illinois, 7 July 1865, Douglas L.
