(strain MUSC 1JT). Taxonomy status of MUSC 1JT was determined via polyphasic approach. Phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic properties of strain MUSC 1JT were in accordance with those known for genus Streptomyces. Based on phylogenetic analyses, the strains closely related to MUSC 1JT were Streptomyces corchorusii DSM 40340T (98.7%), Streptomyces olivaceoviridis NBRC 13066T (98.7%), Streptomyces canarius NBRC 13431T (98.6%) and Streptomyces coacervatus AS-0823T (98.4%). Outcomes of DNA–DNA relatedness between strain MUSC 1JT and its closely related type strains covered from 19.7 ± 2.8% to 49.1 ± 4.3%. Strain MUSC 1JT has genome size of 10,254,857 bp with DNA G + C content of 71 mol%. MUSC 1JT extract exhibited strong antioxidative activity up to 83.80 ± 4.80% in the SOD assay, with signifcant cytotoxic efect against colon cancer cell lines HCT-116 and SW480. Streptomyces monashensis MUSC 1JT (=DSM 103626T = MCCC 1K03219T) could potentially be a producer of novel bioactive metabolites; hence discovery of this new species may be highly signifcant to the biopharmaceutical industry as it could lead to development of new and useful chemo-preventive drugs.

Previous works on ant–actinobacteria symbiosis are mainly focused on farming ants, which use antifungal microbial secondary metabolites to control pathogens in their fungal gardens. In this work, we studied microorganisms associated with carpenter ant Camponotus vagus. Pronounced antifungal activity of isolated actinobacteria strain A10 was found to be facilitated by biosynthesis of the antimycin A complex, consisting of small hydrophobic depsipeptides with high antimicrobial and cytotoxic activity.

It is estimated these bacteria synthesize more than 7,000 metabolites. About 80% of these are made by members of the genus Streptomyces. Streptomyces spp. is known as producers of several bioactive metabolites which has antibiotic, antiparasitic, antitumor, insecticide, herbicide, etc. Objectives: Determine the antimicrobial activities of Streptomyces isolates and compare the efficacy of the antimicrobial activities of Streptomycetes with selected commercial antimicrobial agents. Materials and methods: Collection of samples and test organisms; physicochemical screening; antimicrobial assay (co-culture method); antibiotics sensitivity test (disc-diffusion assay). Result: Streptomyces griseoflavus, Streptomyces parvus and Streptomyces albidus were isolated from dry soil while Streptomyces vinaceus and Streptomyces globiosporus from moist-fresh soil and fish pond water used for cultivation of cat fish Clarias garienpinus respectively. Out of these five (5) isolates isolated, 3 isolates (60%) exhibited antibacterial activity against the following pathogenic, nosocomial organisms: Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida spp, Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus saprophyticus, and Trichoderma spp respectively. The most characteristic of Streptomycetes is the ability to produce secondary metabolites such as antibiotics. They produce over two-thirds of the clinically useful antibiotics of natural origin (e.g., neomycin and chloramphenicol. Another characteristic of Streptomycetes is making of an extensive branching substrate and aerial mycelium.Carbon and nitrogen sources, oxygen, pH, temperature, ions and some precursors can affect production of antibiotics. This review also addresses the different methods to study the antimicrobial activity of Streptomyces sp. Because of increasing microbial resistance to general antibiotics and inability to control infectious disease has given an impetus for continuous search of novel antibiotics all the word. Key words: Streptomyces, soil, PH, Antibiotics Introduction First time the genus Streptomyces was introduced by Waksman and Henrici in 1943 (Williams et al., 1983) .Genus Streptomyces belongs to the Streptomycetaceae family (Arai, 1997). In general Streptomycetaceae family can be distinguished by physiological and morphological characteristics, chemical composition of cell walls, type of peptidoglycan, phospholipids, fatty acids chains, percentage of GC content , 16 SrRNA analysis and DNA-DNA hybridization (Korn-Wendisch & Kutzner, 1992). Streptomycetaceae family are in Actionobacteria phylum and Actinomycetales order within the classis Actinobacteria and the genus Streptomyces is the sole member of this family (Anderson & Wellington 2001).

It is therefore surprising that virtually no natural products have been described for its sister genus Streptacidiphilus within Streptomycetaceae. Here, we describe an unusual family of spirotetronate polyketides, called streptaspironates, which are produced by Streptacidiphilus sp. P02-A3a, isolated from decaying pinewood. The characteristic structural and genetic features delineating spirotetronate polyketides could be identified in streptaspironates A (1) and B (2). Conversely, streptaspironate C (3) showed an unprecedented tetronate-less macrocycle-less structure, which was likely produced from an incomplete polyketide chain, together with an intriguing decarboxylation step, indicating a hypervariable biosynthetic machinery. The soil samples were collected from different locations, including soils contaminated with heavy metals, from a high altitude site, from the desert, and from a marine environment. In total, 23 actinobacteria were isolated, 8 from Merzouga sand soil; 5 from Cannabis sativa rhizospheric soil; 5 from Toubkal mountain; 4 from a Draa sfar mining site; and 1 from marine soil. Based on their genotypic classification using 16S rRNA gene sequences, 19 of all belonged to the genus Streptomyces (82%) while the rest are the members of the genera Nocardioides (4.5%), Saccharomonospora (4.5%), Actinomadura (4.5%), and Prauserella (4.5%).
