He is such a handsome boy and really deserves some love. Read about him on page 7. Words from The Editor I am very pleased to tell you that most of the cats featured in the Spring Newsletter have now been rehomed. I feel really proud to be part of such a great team. To think that these cats are now in the loving homes they deserve makes me smile from ear to ear. It makes all the time and effort very, very much worthwhile. Whilst compiling this newsletter, I contacted many of the new owners to see if they would make a written contribution. It was apparent with everyone I spoke to just how much love they already have for their new cats. These moggies have won the kitty lottery for sure. One particular story was from Mark and Emily, who recently homed Fidget. Mark has written a lovely piece for us and you can really feel how much they have taken to this cat. Kay, who homed Bubbles, has also written a piece but from the point of view of Bubbles. Simply delightful. Thank you to all our new owners who have provided updates and photos. We love a story with a happy ending. A big thank you to everyone who supported us at our indoor sales and outdoor events recently too. I was blown away by the support we received at the Holy Trinity Church Hall in Penge. The cakes flew off the plates!! Another thank you goes to Ray, one of our dedicated supporters, for volunteering to parade around in a cat suit at our indoor sales. He will be making his debut and marking his territory on June 6, at West Wickham. Please look out for him. The business we generate when someone is dressed as a giant cat, drumming up support from the local high street cannot be underestimated. As Spring turns into Summer, kitten season is well underway. Kittens are adorable, but they are babies, and come with all the needs and stresses that babies are famous for. Older cats however are calmer, cleaner and more independent; you can leave an adult cat while kittens require constant attention. Adult cats are also settled in their personalities, so you can be sure of what you’re getting – and the fact is that adorable kitten will be a fully grown cat in a few months anyway. Due to mild weather kitten season actually started early this year, with our first birth in early March. The three young mothers we currently have are delightful friendly cats. What a pity that their owners did not get them spayed and spare them the burden and dangers of birth. Sadly, too often when the cute kitten no longer holds their interest, the cat is just abandoned without any thought for its safety and welfare. Thankfully charities like our own are there to pick up the pieces, but it is frustrating that the message of the importance of neutering has still not got through, even with many charities like us offering to assist with the cost. If you have still not renewed your membership, please tear off the back page and send it off with your membership fee. Of course, none of what we do can be done without you, the members. Each and every donation made makes a huge difference – so thank you. I hope you enjoy the Summer, and the good weather. Love your cats, and hopefully we will see you at one of the events on the opposite page very soon. TRACY Please send me any stories or comments to: [email protected]. Or you can write to me at Bromley Cats Protection, PO Box Number 1124, Bromley, BR1 9TU with your stories. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT Fidget’s Story Fidget was lovingly nursed back to health by fosterers Janet & Laurence. Despite his heart murmur, he would happily charge around the house chasing the kittens and trying to bite their butts (his unique way of play fighting). He was a shy boy, but has now blossomed into a very loving lap cat. He was named Fidget because he could not choose whose lap to sleep on and would “fidget” between each one. This delightful boy has now found a wonderful home with Mark and Emily. I don’t think Mark will mind me telling you that he is well and truly smitten with this tabby cat, and here he has written a few words about the journey so far………… A wonderful 3 legged tiger has come into our lives, and it's all thanks to Bromley Cat Protection. When my wife Emily and I moved into a new house in Sydenham last December. We always had plans for cats (indeed, that was one of the deciding factors in opting for house rather than a flat). Emily already had 2 cats, Jessica and Lilith, from living in Bristol, who were being looked after until we had the necessary room. Sadly though, Jessica had developed a chronic condition, and had to be put to sleep just before Christmas. So in the New Year, it was just Lilith, an all- black 5 year old, who we brought up the M4 with a few final pieces of furniture. Lilith rode in the van's cab and was perfectly behaved for the entire Fidget post-op journey. I had always wanted a young cat of my own, and so once Lilith had settled into our new home, Emily set about finding us suitable candidates from the ‘Find A Cat’ section of the Cats Protection website. It really is an easy to use, almost addictive, website where you can select cats in need of homes by location and different filters such as being indoors or outdoors cats, or being able to live with young children. Fidget, a 2 year old tabby, was one of the closest cats to us in need of a home who could live with another cat, and we both fell for him straight away. The fact that he only had 3 legs and a heart murmur didn't put us off at all. If anything, it made us want to give him a loving home even more! We read that he'd been brought into the rescue centre with a broken right rear leg, but after the vet discovered the heart murmur too, it was decided it was too risky to attempt to repair the leg and so it was removed. Emily and I both made separate enquiries with Bromley Cat Protection about possibly housing Fidget, which may have initially confused them, but Jenni, the Bromley CP homing officer, soon put two and two together. An informal home visit was arranged to ensure that we were responsible cat owners, which all went well, and the following day we went to meet Fidget at his foster home.
