From the small Kentucky town of Hindman and now Berea comes this gifted and extraordinarily professional family bluegrass group that consists of Raymond K. McLain and three of his talented children — Raymond, Alice and Ruth. The McLain Family Band has achieved world-wide acclaim for their performances throughout the United States and in more than forty countries around the world sinee they began performing publicly in 1968. In the United States, they are well-known for their freqüent summertime performances at the major bluegrass fes tivals where they perform with well-known bluegrass bands and performers such as Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt, Ralph Stanley, the Country Gentlemen, Jim and Jesse and the Osborne Brothers. Since their 1973 debut in Nashville, The McLain Family Band has made freqüent appearances ai the Grand Ole Opry. Reviewing their first appearance at the Grand Ole Opry, Nashville's Music City News said (i... While the big ñames in bluegrass continued to hoid attention they deserved, the thunder of the show was actually stolen by a group from Berea, The McLain Family Band». The McLain Family Band appeared whit the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra at their summer Mini Festivals during 1973 and 1974. In 1976 they made a return appearance with the Orchestra for concerts saluting America's Bicentennial at Music Hall in Cincinnati. In January, 1976, The McLain Family Band appeared at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Wash ington, D. C. One reviewer said about that performance, «The McLain Family Band stole the show. The Bluegrass group turned the sober, politely applauding audience into footstomping, whisting Kentuckians».
PROGRAMA AMITY EN Ü.S.A. Para aquellos que deseen perfeccionar su in glés y conocer la forma de vida en Estados Uni dos, el Am ity Institute organiza un programa para jóvenes de ambos sexos de 20 a 30 años de edad. Los participantes viven con una familia ame ricana y ayudan al profesor de idioma español en un High School o College de la zona donde habitan. Puede participarse durante: tres, seis o los nueve meses del año escolar. Los participantes han de pagar el viaje hasta Estados Unidos (se facilitará información sobre vuelos para estudiantes, charter, etc.). Se requie re: estar entre los límites de edad mencionados, conocimiento de inglés suficiente e interés por la enseñanza (las tres condiciones serán comproba das mediante entrevista con cada candidato).
