The event, titled “Crisis Work & Digital Opportunities,” served as the launch of the Newton Tech4Dev Network, a global consortium of scholars and practitioners in technology and humanitarianism advancing research on disasters and development. The College of Liberal Arts was awarded a research grant by the Commission on Higher Education-British Council Newton Fund for a project titled, “Technologies and Innovation Spaces for Disaster Response: Philippine-UK Institutional Links for Disaster Research Network.” DLSU Communication Department Chair Dr. Cheryll Soriano, Political Science Department Graduate Studies Coordinator Dr. Sherwin Ona, and CLA visiting researcher and former chair of the Commission on Information and Communication Technology Dr. Emmanuel Lallana formed a panel on “ICT for Disasters.” The same team gave an echo presentation at the prestigious Royal Holloway, University of London, last November 29. The event was hosted by UNESCO Chair of ICT4D Professor Tim Unwin. CLA and Royal Holloway are collaborating on a joint research proposal on the impact of ICT technology on recent natural disasters in the Philippines.
