Leave 10:00 AM from visitors center. I-695 to exit 18W, Liberty Rd. Follow Liberty Rd. to right at Deer Park Rd.. Continue to park entrance on left. LEADER: Sig Eckhaus, 410-484-0275. WEDNESDAY – NOVEMBER 4 – APPALACHIAN TRAIL IN MARYLAND – 12M MHA Eighth in a series of 9 hikes on the Appalachian Trail across Maryland. An out and back hike of a total of 11.6 miles going south from Gathland State Park to Weverton Cliffs overlook. Total elevation gain is 2,000’ with the longest climb of 450’ over .8 mile. Pace averages 2.5 miles per hour. LEAVE: 8:45 A.M. from Howard County Fairgrounds, take I-70 Exit 80 south on MD-32, 0.25 mile to west on MD-144, 0.5 mile to fairgrounds. WEDNESDAY – NOVEMBER 4 – PARTIAL GWYNNS FALLS TRAIL – 7M MHA This 7-mile out-and-back Tweeners hike will go from Winans Meadow in Leakin Park to Leon Day Park with a side excursion on the Old Fort Trail, at a moderate pace. START: 10:00 AM. Take I-695 (Balto. Beltway) Exit 16, I-70 East/Local Traffic/Park & Ride. Exit at I-70 Exit 94 Security Blvd. Stay in right lane and turn right at Ingleside Ave and turn left. Cross bridge and turn right at top of bridge (just before Franklintown sign). Proceed one block to stop sign at Franklintown Rd. and turn left. Proceed on Franklintown Rd about 1.5 miles to Winans Meadow trailhead on left. LEADER: Reuben Dagold 410-486-8737. SATURDAY – NOVEMBER 7 – LOCHRAVEN RESERVOIR – 6-7/E-M MHA This is an out-and back hike, mostly flat with some hills. Average pace 2.5 mph. Nice views of the reservoir. The hike is largely on the Merryman Trail, but we will take some occasional side paths, one of which passes an interesting, secluded graveyard. This hike is ideal for beginners and for those who like the idea of being done by around one P.M. Bring a snack and water. Meet at 9:30 A.M.at the trailhead across the street from 10514 Pot Spring Road, Cockeysville, MD 21030.You will notice that the road ends there at a gated community. SUNDAY – NOVEMBER 8 – PATAPSCO VALLEY STATE PARK – 7 – 8M MHA One way hike of about 7-8 miles from the Southwest Park & Ride to Oella. Hike through the Glen Artney and Hilton areas, and beyond … to end in Oella. The hike will be lead at a moderate pace with several steep hills. LEAVE: Oella Avenue parking area at the end of the Trolley Trail at 9:00 AM. There will be a short shuttle. LEADERS: Doug and Marcie Schubert (410)536-5080. Please call between 6:00 and 9:30 PM. WEDNESDAY – NOVEMBER 11 – LEAKIN PARK/GWYNNS FALLS TRAILS – 5E MW Paved & unpaved wooded trails. Leave 10:00 AM from Gwynns Falls Park entrance. From I-695, take exit 16E. Turn at last exit before park & ride. Curve around to traffic light. Turn right, then immediate right onto Franklintown Rd. Go about 1.7 miles to park entrance on left. LEADER: Shirley Heintz, 410-867-1229.Cell day of hike, 410-353-3816 WEDNESDAY – NOVEMBER 11 – CATOCTIN MOUNTAIN PARK – 10H MHA There are many highlights to choose from on this 10 mile circuit hike: Cunningham Falls, Hog Rock, Blue Ridge Summit Overlook, Thurmont Vista, Wolf Rock, Chimney Rock and a beautiful section of trail along Hunting Creek. Many sections of trail are rocky, total ascent is 1,500+ feet (including a climb of 500 feet in less than a half mile towards the end of the hike). Lunch at Chimney Rock’s spectacular overlook. Pace is 2.5 to 3 mph. LEAVE: 8:15 A.M. from Howard County Fairgrounds(I-70 Exit 80 south 0.25 mile on MD-32, west on MD144 0.5 mile to fairgrounds).
