    Jewish Pirates by Long John Silverman The Wikipedia page on piracy gives you a lot of clues, if you know what to look for. One of the biggest clues are these two sentences, conspicuously stuck right next to each other: The earliest documented instances of piracy are the exploits of the Sea Peoples who threatened the ships sailing in the Aegean and Mediterranean waters in the 14th century BC. In classical antiquity, the Phoenicians, Illyrians and Tyrrhenians were known as pirates. Wikipedia is all but admitting what our historians do gymnastics to avoid admitting: Sea Peoples = Phoenicians. Just as we suspected. We can ignore “Illyrians” and “Tyrrhenians,” which are just poorly devised synonyms for Phoenicians. Wiki tells us Tyrrhenian is simply what the Greeks called a non-Greek person, but then it states that Lydia was “the original home of the Tyrrhenians,” which belies the fact that they were known by the Greeks as a specific people from a specific place, not just any old non-Greek person. Wiki then cleverly tells us “Spard” or “Sard” was a name “closely connected” to the name Tyrrhenian, since the Tyrrhenian city of Lydia was called Sardis by the Greeks. (By the way, coins were first invented in Lydia – so they were some of the earliest banksters). But that itself is misleading, since the Lydians also called themselves Śfard. Nowhere is the obvious suggested – that Spard/Śfard looks a lot like Sephardi, as in Sephardi Jews. These refer to Jews from the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal), the word coming from Sepharad, a place mentioned in the book of Obadiah whose location is lost to history.

Such an approach is another example of the Council’s demonstrated commitment to the implementation of Ecosystem-Based Fishery Management (EBFM), not only through its Fishery Ecosystem Plan (FEP) and related Ecosystem Initiatives, but also through more traditional actions taken under its four existing single-species FMPs. At the April Council meeting, we ask the Council to advance this Groundfish FMP amendment by delineating a broad scope for the action and providing guidance on the development of a wide range of alternatives. In 1645 there were 1,630 “Portuguese”, a term then synonymous with Jews living in Recife, Brazil, according to Dutch historian Franz Leonard Schalkwijk. In 1654, 23 of them escaped religious persecution by ship and arrived at the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam – today New York City. Where did the other refugees flee to? Some returned to Amsterdam, others disembarked at the nearby Dutch Caribbean colony of Curaçao. Less well-known is that some of the escaping Jews sought shelter in Jamaica, the luscious Caribbean island that was then the home to several hundred Jews and Bnei Anusim (descendants of Spanish and Portuguese Jews who converted to Roman Catholicism under compulsion). Jamaica at the time was an anomaly in the New World – a private fiefdom awarded in perpetuity to Christopher Columbus and his heirs in 1494 by Spain’s Catholic Monarchs. Whether the explorer was himself a crypto-Jew (crypto means a person having a secret allegiance to a certain creed) is an unresolved historical issue. For over a century the Columbus kins kept their privately held domain free of the clutches of Spain’s inquisitors. Jamaica was only one among the many remote and distant locales in the New World where Jews and apostates sought a haven far from the rapacious inquisitors of Spain and Portugal.
