SOUTHWESTERN QUICK HITS Nov. 10 at Bethany 1:30 p.m. Anderson Stadium (2,500) - Lindsborg, Kan. -Southwestern is looking for back-to-back wins for the first time since the 2009 season Saturday when the Moundbuilders travel to Lawrence to take on the Indians of Haskell Indian Nations University. 2012 SOUTHWESTERN COACHING STAFF On the Field... -A win Saturday would be Southwestern’s first road win of the season. It would also be the first time since 2009 -Ken Crandall (Head Coach) that Southwestern has won back-to-back games. That season, the Moundbuilders followed a 21-20 win over -Jimmie Tagg (Offensive Coordinator) Bethel with a 23-20 win over Tabor. Both games were played in Winfield. -Logan Wyrick (Running Backs/Tight Ends) -Andrew Krause (Defensive Coordinator) -Southwestern features multiple options at both of its key skill positions. Anthony Sims and Jacobi Johnson have -Eric McCormick (Defensive Line Coach) split time at halfback, while Jordan Barrett and Brady May have shared time at quarterback. Last week, both -Kenard Calhoun (Linebackers) quarterbacks ended up on the field on numerous occasions. Tanner Strohl also made his debut last week, and promptpy ran for 69 yards on 20 carries. In the Press Box... -Joe Pirillo (Offensive Line) -Southwestern has shown the ability to convert in third and fourth down situations this season. The Mound- -Cody Melby (Offensive Assistant builders rank No. 30 in the nation in third down conversions (38.1 %) and 42nd in the nation in fourth down -Kevin Griffin (Inside Linebackers) conversions (45.5%) -If opponents are punting the ball away from Lorenzo Fouts, it’s for a reason. Fouts ranks No. 26 in the nation in punt return yards per attempt with 7.4. -The Moundbuilders are taking on Haskell for the second-consecutive year. Last season, the Moundbuilders snapped a two-game losing skid with a 65-0 win over the Indians at Jantz Stadium. The study incorporates higher education history, intellectual and social history of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, African and African American history, Indigenous Nations history, whiteness studies, geography, sports history, and political philosophy. This dissertation seeks to establish the social and political backgrounds that inform the stadium movement of the 1920s. The aim is to understand the factors that influenced how KU’s Memorial Stadium (1921) was conceptualized, completed and subsequently. It is a conceptual intervention focused on stadium space and use, and contributes to the scholarship of higher education and sport. iv Acknowledgements I wish to thank my wife, Amanda, and our children, Russell and Ruby, for their support that made this dissertation possible. If there were a dedication, it would be for Amanda who sacrifices every day for our family and me.
