Look at the Explorer Timeline Answer Sheet to check if you got it right.

Remember our history lessons on timelines. BCE/BC- Before the Common Era / Before Christ CE/AD- Common Era/ Anno Domini (in the year of Our Lord) Start with the largest BCE/BC date and move to the smallest. Carry on by going from the smallest CE/AD numbers to the biggest.

1325-55 CE/AD- the Moroccan explorer Ibn Battuta travelled all over the middle east to Africa, China and India.

1480 BCE/BC - Egyptian explorers bring back gold, ivory, perfume and monkeys from the land of Punt (probably Somalia) for their Queen Hatshepsut.

1772 CE/AD - British explorer James Cook reached the Antarctic Circle and was the first explorer to sail from the Antarctic to the Arctic ocean.

790 CE/AD- the Viking explorers crossed the North Sea to Ireland and Britain and later crossed the North Atlantic ocean to Iceland, Greenland and America.

1271-95 CE/AD- the Italian explorer Marco Polo sailed all around China and the Mongol Empire.

1969 CE/AD- American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin land on the moon in Apollo 11.

1521 CE/AD- Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan sailed around the coast of South America to the Pacific and landed in the Philippines.

1893-95 CE/AD British explorer Mary Kingsley explored rivers in West Africa and discovered many new species of river fish and reptiles.

1911 CE/AD- Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen reached the South Pole.

330 BCE/BE -the Greek explorer, Pytheas, sailed past Britain and across icy waters to reach the coast of an island he called Thule, which is now Iceland.

1958 CE/AD- British explorer Margaret Mee travelled into remote parts of the Amazon discovering new plants.
