Ao passar da série castanha para a verde, mais que duplicou o seu volume, acontecendo ficarem para o número seguinte artigos que ultrapassavam a possibilidade de publicação. Aumentaram os colaboradores, diversificaram ‑se os temas, o que veio comprovar a variedade e a riqueza das relações culturais anglo‑portuguesas, de que têm constantemente vindo a revelar ‑se novos temas, em áreas como a literatura, a história, a política, a história económica, a his‑ tória da arte, a história social, tudo aquilo que podemos incluir na cultura. O novo número traz uma nova cor, e com ela virão por certo outras modificações, de organização e de responsáveis, que tra‑ rão consigo novas ideias. Mudou a cor, mas não mudou o gra‑ fismo da capa, o que pode parecer monótono, Todavia, aquele pequeno selo que Mário Vaz tão bem trabalhou há trinta anos é um símbolo – difícil de substituir – do acontecimento político que em 1386 ligou indissoluvelmente os dois países a partir de cujo desenvolvimento foi possível imaginar os estudos anglo‑ ‑portugueses. Quanto aos colaboradores, continuarão a ser todos aqueles a quem agrada a nossa área de trabalho e tenham algo de inte‑ ressante a apresentar. Continuam a ter o seu lugar os assun‑ tos que tragam notícias de qualquer país de língua inglesa. Ao dizer isto, cabe aqui uma palavra especial de agradecimento ao Professor George Monteiro, a quem devemos a valiosa série que temos vindo a publicar, resultante da sua incansável pesquisa nos jornais norte ‑americanos. Para o próximo número temos já um importante estudo sobre traduções americanas de Júlio Dinis e Eça de Queirós. E, claro, não podemos esquecer o apoio editorial que permanentemente nos tem dado, juntamente com 7 a Professora Patricia Odber de Baubeta. Aos dois um “muito obrigado”. Nascida como projecto ambicioso e difícil, a Revista de Estudos Anglo ‑Portugueses marcou o seu lugar e foi crescendo, não só em si mesma como também no interesse que tem des‑ pertado no mundo, como a pesquisa informática no Repositório da Universidade Nova (RUN) nos permite comprovar, em países tão inesperados como o Senegal. Curiosamente, não é no Reino Unido que atrai maior número de leitores, mas sim nos Estados Unidos da América e no Brasil, que alternam no primeiro lugar. A nossa revista nasceu de um sonho, tímida e duvidosa, mas todo o esforço teve ampla compensação no modo como cresceu. Cabe agora a todos os que nela têm colaborado o novo esforço de a manter, nas condições difíceis em que vivemos, e imaginar novas hipóteses de trabalho. Creio que são esses os desejos de todos os que têm publicado nela os seus estudos. I am terribly impressed—my lan‑ guages are so bad—and Portuguese has nothing to offer like Chekhov, alas—although I do like some of the very old poets, the Kings—and Gil Vicente is nice, too. Imagine the strange days when the kings wrote the best lyrics of all— Elizabeth Bishop (1965)1 Before looking for references to the great Portuguese dram‑ atist Gil Vicente in United States periodicals and books, one might have guessed them to be few and far between. Although my search has not turned up anything like the hundreds of reference to Camões, it has resulted in the location of fifty ‑one references, a surprisingly substantial number in this case. Included in this chronological compilation of items culled from U. S. journals, periodicals and books, mainly from the nineteenth century, are works of scholarship and reference, po‑ etry and even fiction, a few of them with prior publication in England.     SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH Sunday, July 4, 2021 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time Please Welcome Fr. Craig Marion to Sacred Heart Church I entered Seminary in 2010. Prior to entering Seminary, I worked for almost 13 years. My college background prior to entering Seminary was Business, Accounting and Finance. I was fortunate at the age of 18 to be hired by a small consulting company. Beginning as an office clerk, and in my time there I was able to learn a great deal. I was eventually working as the Assistant to the Human Resource Manager, I then worked as Systems Analyst and when I left the company I worked in Systems Support as a Recruiter. After leaving the consulting firm, I worked for General Motors for more than six years. In a strange turn of events, I ended up worked in the Quick Service Business. Who would have thought a guy that almost always worked in financial work, would wind up running Restaurants? Quick Service Restau- rants were very challenging. Immediately after being training, I turned around a unit in Southgate, from there I was asked to “fix” a unit in Allen Park, this unit had enormous problems, gaping holes in the HVAC roof units, the main drain line was no longer functional, the store was in severe disrepair and the employee morale was very low. In the end, working on average of 80-100 hours per/week a great deal was fixed and repaired and morale improved. The unit stabilized and was making money. However, after 18 months, I realized I could not continue to work nearly 100 hours average per/week permanently.

    St. Elizabeth of Portugal (O.F.S.) [1271 – July 4, 1336] (Feast Day: July 5 in the United States) Elizabeth is usually depicted in royal garb with a dove or an olive branch because she worked for peace. She was named after her great-aunt, the great Elizabeth of Hungary, but is known in Portuguese history by the Spanish form of that name, Isabel. The daughter of Pedro III, King of Aragon, and Constantia, grandchild of Emperor Frederick II, she was educated very piously, and led a life of strict regularity and self-denial from her childhood: she said the full Divine Office daily, fasted and did other penances, and gave up amusement. Elizabeth was married at the age of 12 to Diniz (Denis), King of Portugal, a poet, and known as Rei Lavrador, or the working king, from his hard work in its country’s service. His morals, however, were extremely bad, and the court to which his young wife was brought consequently most corrupt. Diniz does not appear to have reformed in morals till late in life, when we are told that the saint won him to repentance by her prayers and unfailing sweetness. They had two children, a daughter Constantia and a son Affonso. The latter so greatly resented the favors shown to the king’s illegitimate sons that he rebelled, and in 1323, war was declared between him and his father. St. Elizabeth, however, rode in person between the opposing armies, and so reconciled her husband and son. Diniz died in 1325, his son succeeding him as Affonso IV.

Garnett The tradition of the Red Mass was begun by Pope Innocent IV in 1243 for the Ecclesial Judical Court asking the invocation of the Holy Spirit as a source of wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude and strength for the coming term of the court. The color red signifies the Holy Spirit and martyrdom. St. Thomas More is the patron saint of lawyers. The Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana will celebrate the fifth annual Red Mass on Monday, October 5, 2020, at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Lafayette at 5:30 pm. All government officials (federal, state, local levels, executive, legislative, judicial branches), attorneys, paralegals, law students and their spouses are cordially invited to attend. One does not have to be Catholic to join us in prayer and fellowship for the legal community. The Red Mass is a tradition in the Catholic Church which dates back to the 13th century. The first Red Mass is believed to have been celebrated in the Cathedral of Paris in 1245, and thereafter the tradition spread throughout Europe. A Red Mass was initially celebrated to mark the beginning of the annual term of the courts but can be held at other times. The word “red” was originally used to describe the Mass in 1310, because the justices of the English Supreme Court wore scarlet robes. Over time the “Red” Mass came to have a deeper theological meaning, with red symbolizing the “tongues of fire” that descended upon the Apostles at Pentecost bestowing the gifts of the Spirit.

Juana Alfonsa Milan illegitimate daughter of King Alfonso XIII married the son of his friend and confidante Jose Quinones de Leon OB.
