It is how I respond to my world. I am driven by mood and intuition. I always begin outside. In that sense I am a landscape painter. Seasonal changes catch my attention and I can rarely resist the changing colours and textures of the natural year. I sketch and paint in watercolour, charcoal or oil then return to the studio where I make larger mixed media pieces guided by memory and feeling. Work gets cut down, torn up, collaged and reformed. Fragments of self portraits often lay hidden in fields, branches or buildings.” ‘DRAWN IN’ 11 May - 15 June: Bridport Arts Centre, South Street, BRIDPORT, DT6 3NR. Higha Mpton Messenger
Issue 7 February—March 2011 CHAIRMAN CHARLES CHATS... Happy New Year to you all! My new year’s resolution it to try to be polite and positive in my dealings with everyone. Now for a negative the road from Highampton to Windmilland Cross is going to be closed from the 28th of February until the 11th of March. The official diversion is via Folly Gate and Dunsland Cross, a nice little round trip! I hope that there are enough of you interested in books to keep our mobile library visiting us on alternate Tuesday afternoons at the Village Hall, you know the old adage “use it or lose it”. This is true of all the facilities in the village so please come and join in all the events held this year by the clubs and organisations, volunteers put a great deal of time and effort in to stage these events. Please support your school, Holy Cross Church, Burdon Grange and all clubs and societies, also, please in these difficult times, all your local businesses. If you have any talents to exploit please do so and help us keep a vibrant village. We hold our parish council meetings on the first Wednesday of each month and all your representatives would be pleased to hear from you if you need our help or wish to tell us something. Charles Dumpleton (Parish Council Chairman) Happy New Year to all readers! As always, thank you to everyone who contributed to this issue. If you would like to submit an item or an advert for publication in the next issue please email [email protected] Alternatively please hand in any Newsletter items to the Village Post Office. -

David & Jenny Carter Nimrod Research Docton Court 2 Myrtle Street Appledore Bideford North Devon EX39 1PH www.nimrodresearch.co.uk [email protected] GRENVILLE RESEARCH This report has been produced to accompany the Historical Research and Statement of Significance Reports into Nos. 1 to 5 Bridge Street, Bideford. It should be noted however, that the connection with the GRENVILLE family has at present only been suggested in terms of Nos. 1, 2 and 3 Bridge Street. I am indebted to Andy Powell for locating many of the reference sources referred to below, and in providing valuable historical assistance to progress this research to its conclusions. In the main Statement of Significance Report, the history of the buildings was researched as far as possible in an attempt to assess their Heritage Value, with a view to the owners making a decision on the future of these historic Bideford properties. I hope that this will be of assistance in this respect. ' PREFACE The author published a monograph on " St. Asaph Cathedral in 1896, which has formed the basis of the present handbook. The historical documents are few, and the surviving evidence of the past with regard to our smallest cathedral is scanty at the best. The chief books of reference have been Browne Willis's valuable "Survey of St. Asaph,'' published in 1720, also Edwards' edition of the same published at Wrexham in 1801, and the learned work by the Ven. Archdeacon Thomas, M.A., F.S.A., on " The Diocese of St. Asaph." " Storer's Cathedrals," pub- lished in i8ig, together with similar works, have also been consulted. -
