    Gleeks Rejoice! Alex Newell to Perform with Boston Gay Men’s Chorus Courtesy of Boston Gay Men’s Chorus Just in time for Pride, Boston Gay Men’s Chorus will perform “Can’t Stop the Beat,” the biggest production in its 32-year history, on June 12, 13, and 15 at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall. The concerts feature Alex Newell who stars as the show-stopping transgender teen Wade “Unique” Adams on FOX’s hit series Glee. Newell will also share the stage with the Chorus June 7 in his hometown of Lynn for a special Outreach Concert at Lynn Auditorium, part of the Chorus’s mission of community engagement.     MCC Toronto’s Reopening Plans We at MCC Toronto hope that this message finds you well and that you have been enjoying the summer sun! As Ontario continues to progress on its re-opening plans, we want to update you on when we at MCC Toronto will resume In Person Worship Services. While many are excited to resume in-person Worship Services, others might be more reluctant and prefer to continue online. We want to accommodate both and so we expect online Worships Services will continue in one form or another. Furthermore, as many well know, our sanctuary is sweltering in the summer and so a decision was made some weeks ago to aim for a September resumption of in-person Worship Services. While some smaller congregations in the city have resumed in-person Services, like a mighty ship, MCC Toronto requires “all hands on deck” to pivot and that’s where you come in! We need you to volunteer, to get engaged, and to stay committed to MCC Toronto! Here’s what to watch for: Monday, August 9: We will be sending out a special congregation survey e-mail blast. Please take the 10-15 minutes to fill the survey out diligently. Your responses will help us decide our shared future and determine our direction. Sunday, September 12: MCC Toronto will host a very special Open House for new congregants who’ve discovered us online over the last 18 months and a Volunteer Training Session for communion servers and greeters. Sunday September 19th: We will have our first In-Person Worship Service in almost a year at our historic building 115 Simpson Avenue for MCC Toronto’s Homecoming Celebration!!! We are still working through the development of clear new protocols to keep you and our communities safe.

This musical comedy, focusing on a high school glee club, incorporates numerous stereotypes and real-world teenage struggles. This thesis focuses on the queer characteristics of four female personalities: Santana, Brittany, Coach Beiste, and Coach Sue. I investigate how their musical performances are producing a constructive form of mass media by challenging hegemonic femininity through camp and by producing relatable queer female role models. In addition, I take an ethnographic approach by examining online fan blogs from the host site Tumblr.
