As the SGA election ended on Thursday, the elected representatives were called upon for their first Senate meeting on Monday night. Ed Yates the newly elected Vice-President for the SGA, was the presiding officer. The meeting had a different face from those previously held. It was a relaxing face Before going into discussing serious matters the senators played a name game where the senators learned one another’s name They laughed heartedly. For the first time the Senate had such a friendly atmosphere at a meeting. In the past Senate meetings have always been strictly business from the beginning to the end Parliamentary procedures were strictly followed. Laughs were relatively rare. Relaxing discussions were seldom encouraged Consequently, the excitement of being involved in the SGA lost its meaning senator's absentees were obvious And those who came did so only from ■ the feeling o f obligation. Now, Ed, having been one of the senators realizes that relaxation takes a large part in formal learning processes among campuses , especially VSC’s. Undoubtedly, he also realizes that impersonal approach is no longer necessary for accomplishment These are probably the reasons that the senators had such a friendly, relaxing meeting last Monday. I am glad that Ed decided to take a new approach toward betterment of the Student Senate. It’s about time!! I sincerely hope that he will continue to generate a relaxing atmosphere in Senate meetings so that the senators can feel free to excercise their true talents which may be beneficial to VSC’s welfare I heartedly congratulate Ed Yates on his election as Vice President of the SGA and his promising approach to improve the student governm ent Linda Gaines is instructed by Miss Ruth Sisson in preparation for her recital to be held May 1.
