About the Playwrights Adam Long began his professional life as an accountant for an anti-nuclear political action com- mittee by day and bassist for an acoustic punk band by night. Then he put on a skirt and wig and became a founding member of the Reduced Shakespeare Company. Adam toured with the RSC, performed stand-up comedy in Canada, became a Buddhist, and finally settled in London.Daniel Singer, upon his return from studying “proper dramatic technique” in London, became a director at the original Renaissance Pleasure Faire, where he founded the Reduced Shakespeare Company. Complete Works… enjoyed a record-breaking run in London’s West End and became one of the world’s most popular comedies. In 1989, Daniel hung up his doublet-and-hose to design theme park attractions at Walt Disney Imagineering. After 12 years as an Imagineer, Daniel left Disney to become a freelance bohemian; these days he restores old houses, sculpts, gardens, and contin- ues to write plays in hopes of another hit. Jess Winfield was an original member of the RSC, and performed with the troupe from its founding in 1981 until 1992. He left the troupe to write and produce animated television for the Walt Disney Company. He and Daniel Singer revised Com- plete Works in honor of its 20th anniversary and directed it in London’s West End. Notes from the Director “All the world’s a stage,” and through the right lens, all the stage can be a comedy! At least that’s the name of the game with the show you’re about to see. Playwrights Long, Singer and Winfield, created an off-the-wall comedy, complete with quick changes, big bawdy humor, and requiring an immense amount of energy from three dynamically talented actors. When directing a show like The Complete Works…(Abrided) (Revised), there’s really only one overarching goal: find the funny. And after a year of stress and staying away from each other, being able to embrace laugh- ter and levity was truly a gift worth sharing. This show was written nearly three decades ago and revised since, but the best part of this script is the invitation from the original playwrights to update it. They suggest each production should reflect its unique cast and the times in which it is produced. Which means you’ll hear some very 2021 references, and you’ll see Ben, Elizabeth and Brandt play versions of themselves, and you’ll get a one-of-a-kind production made just for you. As you take in these lauded stories reimagined to milk the most hilarity out of each moment possible, please know how appreciative we are of your presence today. Gathering to take in a play is something that humans have done for thousands of years. I hope you enjoy our retelling of every play Willaim Shakespeare wrote some four-hundred-odd years ago, each reinvigorated with countless comedic bits by three zany and imaginative actors. Welcome back to the Com- monweal! On this stage, Comedy! —Jaclyn June Johnson

He was also known (or suspected) to have collaborated with other playwrights on several plays. Are those plays “his”? Here is a listing of the 37 plays named by the playwrights of this present work, plus one commonly attributed to Shakespeare.
