Pelan Induk Pembangunan MDTM 2011-2021 PPPEEELLLAAANNN IIINNNDDDUUUKKK PPPEEEMMMBBBAAANNNGGGUUUNNNAAANNN MMMAAAJJJLLLIIISSS DDDAAAEEERRRAAAHHH TTTAAANNNJJJOOONNNGGG MMMAAALLLIIIMMM 222000111111---222000222111 1.0 PENGENALAN Membangunkan sebuah negara mahupun negeri apatah lagi daerah ini yang dikenali sebagai Daerah Kecil Slim River / Tanjong Malim merupakan satu cabaran besar kepada pentadbirnya. Dengan keluasan 949.86 km persegi Ia ditadbir oleh dua agensi kerajaan iaitu Pejabat Daerah dan Tanah Slim River dan Majlis Daerah Tanjong Malim (MDTM). Kedua-dua institusi ini adalah merupakan nadi dan penghubung langsung antara Kerajaan dengan orangramai. Keberkesanan pentadbiran kedua-dua institusi ini melambangkan imej pentadbiran Kerajaan samada baik atau buruk. Majlis Daerah Tanjong Malim merupakan Pihak Berkuasa Tempatan bagi Daerah Kecil Slim River/Tanjong Malim ini. Sebagai Pihak Berkuasa Tempatan yang dikenali sebagai kerajaan ketiga iaitu yang paling hampir dengan rakyat sudah tentu hasrat kerajaan memerintah agar rakyat didahulukan pencapaian diutamakan diberi penekanan walaupun “pelbagai pihak” sedia maklum kekurangan dan kekangan yang ada pada pentadbir Pintu Masuk Utama selatan negeri Perak ini. Selama tiga dekad, pentadbir ini sedikit sangat dibantu untuk memakmurkan Pintu Masuk Utama Negeri Perak. Secara tidak langsung mengambarkan Perak seadanya walaupun tiga dekad yang telah berlalu itu begitu ramai yang ditauliahkan pangkat “Laksamana” dipersada pemerintahan Negara namun amat sedikit pula yang berbakti kepada Negeri tumpah darahnya. Negeri Perak hingga ke hari ini dan bandar-bandar pentingnya terus secara halus dilupa dan seolah-olah dipinggirkan. Walaupun suatu ketika dahulu negeri Perak pernah menjadi “Juara” dan “Big Brother” kerana kekayaan hasil buminya dan pemurah para pemimpinnya. Kini ia tinggal kenangan. Tanah yang dulunya kaya dengan Bijih Timah kini tinggal kolam-kolam yang kebanyakannya amat terhad penggunaannya. -

MINGGU 26 Jumlah kes denggi minggu ini ialah 168 (168 kes IgM positif ). 16/02/2004 Perak gigih atur strategi makmur rakyat WAWANCARA khas dengan Menteri Besar Perak Datuk Seri Diraja Dr Tajol Rosli Ghazali sempena lawatan Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi ke negeri Perak dan perasmian bangunan Umno Perak hari ini. SOALAN: Lawatan Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi ke Perak pada 16 Februari ini adalah lawatan rasmi pertamanya sebagai Perdana Menteri ke negeri ini. Sebagai Menteri Besar dan juga Pengerusi Perhubungan Umno negeri, bagaimana Datuk Seri melihat kepentingan lawatan ini? MB: Kami pernah menerima lawatan bekas Perdana Menteri, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad ketika beliau menjadi Perdana Menteri, begitu juga Datuk Seri Abdullah ketika beliau menjawat jawatan Timbalan Perdana Menteri. Bagaimanapun, lawatan rasmi Pak Lah ke Perak kali ini adalah sebagai Perdana Menteri. Memandangkan lawatan kali ini adalah lawatan rasmi pertamanya, sudah tentu kami akan meraikan dan mengalu-alukan pelantikan beliau sebagai Perdana Menteri. Pak Lah sudah memaklumkan kepada kami beliau mahu bertemu semua lapisan rakyat negeri Perak. Pada sebelah pagi, Pak Lah akan menghadap Sultan Perak. Selepas itu, kami membawa Pak Lah melawat Kampung Manjoi bagi melancar dan merasmikan Projek Perbandaran Manjoi iaitu kampung Melayu terbesar di negara ini dan beliau akan merasmikan upacara pecah tanah bagi projek perbandaran itu. Soalan: Datuk Seri pernah berkhidmat dengan Dr Mahathir dan Pak Lah. Melalui pengamatan Datuk Seri, apa perbezaan paling ketara antara kedua- dua pemimpin ini? MB: Pak Lah lebih bersikap terbuka, kita boleh berbincang dengan Pak Lah sebagai kawan atau adik beradik. Dr Mahathir juga agak terbuka tetapi apabila kita berbincang dengan beliau, kita lebih menghormatinya sebagai seorang bapa kerana mungkin wujudnya perbezaan usia. -

The project is a collaboration between Utrecht University (The Netherlands) and Think City Sdn Bhd (Malaysia), under supervision of dr Leo van Grunsven and Matt Benson. E-mail: [email protected] Hafizan Juahir, Sharifuddin, M.Zain Department of Chemistry, Universiti Malaya, KL Nazari Jaafar Department of Geography, Universiti Malaya, KL Abstract GIS-based multi-temporal land use data provides a historical vehicle for determining and evaluating long term changes of land use due to urbanization. Along with the concurrent daily streamflow and precipitation records, the impact of land use change on the rainfall-runoff relationships has been explored in Langat River Basin. The basin is located at southern of the heart of Malaysia i.e. Kuala Lumpur, mentioned to be the most rapid semi-urban basin that experienced land use and land cover changes due to the onslaught of development. This article will highlights the evaluation of land use change result and how this outcome could affects the rainfall-runoff relationships. The study revealed that the landscape diversity of Langat significantly change after 1980s and as the result, the changes also altered the Langat’s streamflow response. Surface runoff has increased from 20.35% in 1983-88 to about 31.4% of the 1988-94 events. Evidence from this research suggests that urbanisation and changes in urban-related landuse- landcover (LULC) could affect the streamflow behaviour or characteristics. -

This community is known for being a community that has its own distinctive identity. Although they were ruled by various administrations like the British North Borneo Charted Company (BNBCC) since 1881 till 1941, the Japanese Ruling (1946-1962), the era of post-independence since 1963; they are still holding adamantly to their traditional culture. The arrival of religious influences like Christianity started since the 1950s also did not distance themselves with their community’s culture. Therefore, this has proven the ability of the Murut Tahol community to ensure their traditional cultures are preserved. Research that has been done on the Murut Tahol community in Kampung Alutok, Ulu Tomani, shows that the community is making adaptations to its culture so that it can be on par with the religion they have adopted and that it is well-suited with the passing of time. -

The Developing Economies, XXXV-3 (September 1997): 209–39 THE NEW ECONOMIC POLICY AND THE UNITED MALAYS NATIONAL ORGANIZATION —With Special Reference to the Restructuring of Malaysian Society— TAKASHI TORII INTRODUCTION N 1990, Malaysia duly completed its twenty-year New Economic Policy (NEP) which was launched in 1971. Though the NEP has been described as I an “economic” policy, its contents and implementation processes show that it went far beyond the scope of economic policy packages. In fact, policies in such noneconomic areas as education, language, culture, and religion have been formu- lated and implemented in close relationships with it. Consequently, the NEP has exerted major influences not only on Malaysia’s economy but on Malaysian society as a whole. From the point of view of the NEP’s stated objective, namely, “ to lift up the economic and social status of Malays,” the NEP has achieved signal successes, such as the creation of a Malay middle class and Malay entrepreneurs, most notably the new Malay business groups.1 A number of both positive and negative evaluations have been made about the NEP, which has had such a major impact on Malaysian society.2 These studies generally identify two basic characteristics of the NEP. –––––––––––––––––––––––––– This paper is part of the fruits of the research and investigation I conducted in Malaysia in 1991–93 as a visiting research fellow at the National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia— UKM). Rice & ransoms: the Indonesia– Philippines–Malaysia border region ‘So long as the seas have no fence, it will not stop’, an interviewee prophesised, referring to smuggling in the border region of Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, where all the borders are in the sea. The area is large and includes many small islands, which makes it difficult to patrol. The region also has its share of non-state armed actors. In Mindanao, in the south of the Philippines, organised non-state armed groups fight for more regional autonomy for the Moro people. In Indonesia, more extremist networks, some linked to the Islamic State, conduct attacks that are often directed against civilians. The region also has groups like the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) that are nominally political but, as Gutierrez writes, ‘better understood as a network of dangerous criminal entrepreneurs, similar to an armed mob’ (2016, p.184) than a non-state armed group with political motives. As the border region is large, this chapter uses two case studies (Figure 5.1): in the east, the route connecting Mindanao in the Philippines, Sabah in Malaysia and North Kalimantan in Indonesia; in the west, the route connecting Mindanao in the Philippines and North Sulawesi in Indonesia. I conducted research in Indonesia’s North Kalimantan (Nunukan) and North Sulawesi (Manado, Tahuna, Bitung) and in Mindanao (Davao, Zamboanga, Cotabato) in the Philippines, in April 2018 and in May–June 2018. In the east, between Mindanao and North Sulawesi, local people from the Philippines and Indonesia cross the border on a regular basis, particularly for fishing. -
