Greetings Wow! What a year this has been… At the time of this publication, the governor of NC has finally eased restrictions on mass gatherings that were originally put in place more than a year ago as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic! For those of you who were with us last year, you can recall the hurdles we jumped through to ensure our children were able to finish out the year with a performance. The Brawley Estate was a wonderful host with a beautiful backdrop, but it’s great to be back in a theater this year!
In previous years, I’ve always added a theatrical flair to our dance recitals by including our musical theater classes in the show. I love the storytelling aspect of a musical, and it turns out many of you do too! So, this year we decided to give our musical theater program its very own production! And, you’re in for a special treat… ( see what I did there :) ) What better theme to kick off our new format than by welcoming to the stage the candy man himself – Mr. Willy Wonka!
To go along with our expanded format of performances, this year we also decided to expand the Playbill to be more of a yearbook. I hope you enjoy it! As I looked through the pictures, I was reminded of all our amazing students and families at Neighborhood Dance. I’m so thankful for our community, and for the opportunity to share the magic of the performing arts with you.
Looking ahead, we’re moving to a larger space at our Mooresville studio as of July 1st! I’m very excited for what this will provide for our students and families. It will have 2 dance studios, a room for voice lessons and a community area for families. It’s conveniently located behind our current location so nothing will change in terms of the commute. We’ve also added some amazing new teaching talent who will be serving both Mooresville and Cornelius studio locations and who will help us offer more advanced dance classes, voice lessons for our musical theater students, and just more class availability in general during those popular early evening and weekend timeslots.
Our motto at Neighborhood Dance is “A Balanced Education” and a big part of this is learning through performance. The experience helps build confidence and self-assurance, and contributes to a student’s success in non-dance activities. It takes hard work and dedication to prepare for a performance and I’m so proud of the enthusiasm and effort our students have put in to this year’s shows.
