Oleg Larionov has made a recording of Russian music for viola and piano together with pianist Maria Kamchilina-Larionova for the Bomba-Piter label. The CD will be released in April 2014. Oleg Larionov's vivid and deep interest in classical music has eventually lead him to composition which he studies under the guidance of one of most prominent Russian composers of the day – professor Sergey Slonimsky. Larionov's compositions for voice have been performed by soloists of Mariinsky Theatre—Dombrovskaya, Vitman, Muraviev, Romanov, Kalagina, Dudinova and Sidorenko. His instrumental works have received high acclaim at the Faculty of Composition of Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, Fin-de-ciecle Modern Music Festival, Music Festival of Turku, in reviews of Turun Sanomat newspaper and via his youtube channel. His works are published by Music Finland and Kompozitor SPb. Oleg Larionov is an extraordinarily versatile musician – beside viola and composition he has performed one of the main character roles in a stage production of Faust at Saint-Petersburg State Opera and Ballet Theater, taken masterclasses in conducting with renowned Finnish maestro Jorma Panula, learned to play and performed with TFO an exotic ocarina-flute solo in just 10 days, teaches his son – already at 7 a winner of International Competitions, with performances as a soloist with orchestra in Finland and at Carnegie Hall. Oleg Larionov – Duo Viola Classique This Saint-Petersburg duo is bound by long musical partnership, performance at festivals, awards in International Chamber Music Competitions and unquenchable interest for the discovery and performance of wonderful music for viola and piano. While still a student at Saint-Petersburg Conservatory, Oleg Larionov became Viola Deputy Leader at the Mariinsky Theater Symphony Orchestra, where he had performed both as solo- and group-leader with such outstanding conductors as Gergiev, Mariss Jansons, Salonen, Eschenbach, Järvi, Boulez and others. As a soloist Mr.Larionov has performed with symphony orchestras in Finland and South Korea. Maria Kamchilina-Larionova is an experienced solo and chamber pianist. She has worked in musical partnership with renowned instrumental artists and singers – soloists of main European theatres. The pianist has performed a great number of chamber concert programs on the stages of Grand and Small Philharmonic Halls of Saint-Petersburg, Mariinsky Theatre, Åbo Castle and Sibelius and W.Aaltonen museums in Turku, Finland; as well as in France, Italy, United Kingdom, Sweden and South Korea. Oleg Larionov – Reviews ...The enchanting sound of viola conjured by Oleg Larionov has left a permanent trace in memory. With his incomparable sense of style he transferred from Mozart to the works of romantic period as if he had switched to another instrument with more volume and deeper and darker timbre. Thus after light and supple Mozart's trio the large solo viola opening of Max Bruch's cycle took breaths away – it was a true praise to the voice of viola... from Turun Sanomat by Aija Haapalainen (translation) ...The playing of Oleg Larionov is filled with outstanding individuality – it is touching, passionate, at times stirringly inflaming. The piano part performed by Maria Kamchilina-Larionova not only frames, but as well determines the sound of the whole – she radiates the flair of ensemble playing, fine expression and masterly command of the instrument, which sounds incomparably. The duo's playing penetrates into listeners' hearts with outstanding artistry and sensitive interconnection between the players, leaving lasting impression... from Turun Sanomat by Päivi Eskola for (translation) Oleg Larionov – Viola Repertoire Concertos J.C. • An Annotated Bibliography of Symphonies for Wind Band
An Annotated Bibliography of Symphonies for Wind Band by Andrew Donald Pease A Research Paper Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Musical Arts Approved March 2015 by the Graduate Supervisory Committee: Gary W. Hill, Chair Wayne Bailey William Reber Rodney Rogers Catherine Saucier ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY May 2015 ABSTRACT This study catalogues symphonies for wind band from the origin of the genre in the late eighteenth century through 2014. Wind bands include any mixed wind group of eight or more players. Works using the word “symphony” or its derivatives in the title are included in the study. A total of 1342 works that fit these criteria were identified. An annotated bibliography (Appendix A) includes detailed information about 695 of these works. Such information was not available for an additional 621 wind band symphonies; consequently, these works are listed in a second appendix that includes a list of sources for each work so that future researchers might investigate them further. The final appendix lists 26 wind band symphonies that are no longer available based on the author’s current sources. The titles included in this study were found by examining many repertoire resources for the wind band, including previous studies of wind band symphonies and more comprehensive repertoire resources like the Heritage Encyclopedia of Band Music and the website “The Wind Repertory Project.” Details of each piece in the annotated bibliography were found in their scores whenever possible. Contact with composers and publishers, through both their websites and direct correspondence, played a major role in this part of the study.
