Oleg Larionov – Biography

Oleg Larionov graduated in 2005 as soloist, chamber ensemble and musician from the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory where studied viola with professor Andrey Dogadin and professor Vladimir Stopichev.

During 2004-2011, Mr.Larionov worked at the Mariinsky Theatre opera and symphony orchestra as viola deputy-leader (co-principal) with solo and leader assignments. As solo viola of the orchestra he had played symphony and opera repertory in Saint Petersburg and in Japan, USA, Israel, Cyprus, South-Korea, Germany under the batons of Valery Gergiev, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Christoph Eschenbach, Mariss Jansons, Paavo Järvi, Gianandrea Noseda and Nikolaj Znaider.

As a soloist he had collaborated with the orchestra of the Rimsky- Korsakov School of Music, Joensuu Conservatory Orchestra, Korean Prime Philharmonic Orchestra and Classical Concert Chamber Orchestra (USA). Mr. Larionov has received awards at National and International competitions.

Violist Oleg Larionov possesses an immense repertory that is renewed continuously. He has given recitals at the Saint-Petersburg Philharmonic, Mariinsky Concert Hall, Smolny Cathedral, and a recital followed by a master class in South Korea.

He has performed with Sonorus String Quartet and Belle Etage Quartet at the Philharmonic and Mariinsky Concert Halls in Saint- Petersburg, Sibelius Museum and Åbo Castle in , Sibelius Hall in Lahti, along with numerous chamber concerts at Jeunes Talents in Paris, Cercle Stravinsky in Bordeaux, Red Sea Festival in Eilat, Israel; Musical Collection, Three Centuries and Fin-de-ciecle International Music Festivals in Saint-Petersburg. He has been Guest artist at the Mikkeli, Kerimäki, Varkauden Ruukki and Heinävesi Music Festivals in . Currently Mr. Larionov has a permanent position at Turku Philharmonic Orchestra in Finland.

Oleg Larionov has made a recording of Russian music for viola and piano together with pianist Maria Kamchilina-Larionova for the Bomba-Piter label. The CD will be released in April 2014.

Oleg Larionov's vivid and deep interest in has eventually lead him to composition which he studies under the guidance of one of most prominent Russian composers of the day – professor Sergey Slonimsky.

Larionov's compositions for voice have been performed by soloists of Mariinsky Theatre—Dombrovskaya, Vitman, Muraviev, Romanov, Kalagina, Dudinova and Sidorenko. His instrumental works have received high acclaim at the Faculty of Composition of Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, Fin-de-ciecle Modern Music Festival, Music Festival of Turku, in reviews of Turun Sanomat newspaper and via his youtube channel. His works are published by Music Finland and Kompozitor SPb.

Oleg Larionov is an extraordinarily versatile musician – beside viola and composition he has performed one of the main character roles in a stage production of Faust at Saint-Petersburg State Opera and Ballet Theater, taken masterclasses in conducting with renowned Finnish maestro Jorma Panula, learned to play and performed with TFO an exotic ocarina-flute solo in just 10 days, teaches his son – already at 7 a winner of International Competitions, with performances as a soloist with orchestra in Finland and at Carnegie Hall.

Oleg Larionov – Duo Viola Classique

This Saint-Petersburg duo is bound by long musical partnership, performance at festivals, awards in International Chamber Music Competitions and unquenchable interest for the discovery and performance of wonderful music for viola and piano.

While still a student at Saint-Petersburg Conservatory, Oleg Larionov became Viola Deputy Leader at the Mariinsky Theater Symphony Orchestra, where he had performed both as solo- and group-leader with such outstanding conductors as Gergiev, Mariss Jansons, Salonen, Eschenbach, Järvi, Boulez and others. As a soloist Mr.Larionov has performed with symphony in Finland and South Korea.

Maria Kamchilina-Larionova is an experienced solo and chamber pianist. She has worked in musical partnership with renowned instrumental artists and singers – soloists of main European theatres. The pianist has performed a great number of chamber concert programs on the stages of Grand and Small Philharmonic Halls of Saint-Petersburg, Mariinsky Theatre, Åbo Castle and Sibelius and W.Aaltonen museums in Turku, Finland; as well as in France, Italy, United Kingdom, Sweden and South Korea.
