November 1, 2020 All Saints Welcome to Christ Concord • TO OUR GUESTS: We’re glad that you are with us today! It is our prayer that you will experience God’s presence in a meaningful way as we worship together. We invite you to worship with us again. If you are new to Christ Concord and would like to learn more about the church, please contact Pastor Tenny Shifley at [email protected]. WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS OPENING SONG I Can Only Imagine 2 PRAYERS IN REMEMBRANCE OF THE SAINTS Leader: When we were baptized in Christ Jesus, we were baptized into his death. We were buried therefore with him by Baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. Let us pray. O God of grace and glory, we remember before you today the saints from this congregation who have finished their course and now rest from their labors: Gertrude Allran Steve Benson Arline Bidanset Mona Booe Doris Boon Jeannie Carpenter Eric Cerwin Emilie Crigler Dick Dallman Pirkko Laaksonen Seppo Laaksonen Shirley Landgraf Mary Mask Jean Ann Neel Kathie Rice Ronald Runkle Jeanne Schmidt Kay Schnaidt Ann Sink Lisa Teeter Nancy Tuthill Reinhild Werner Shirley Wunder We thank you for giving them to us to know and to love as companions in our pilgrimage on earth. In your boundless compassion, console us who mourn. Give us your aid, so we may see in death the gate to eternal life, that we may continue our course on earth in confidence until, by your call, we are reunited with those who have gone before us; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. People: Amen. CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS GREETING AND SHARING THE PEACE FIRST LESSON Jeremiah 18:1-6 NLT The Lord gave another message to Jeremiah. He said, “Go down to the potter’s shop, and I will speak to you there.” So I did as he told me and found the potter working at his wheel. But the jar he was making did not turn out as he had hoped, so he crushed it into a lump of clay again and started over. Then the Lord gave me this message: “O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay? As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand.” SECOND LESSON Psalm 119:73-77 NLT You made me; you created me. Now give me the sense to follow your commands. May all who fear you find in me a cause for joy, for I have put my hope in your word. I know, O Lord, that your regulations are fair; you disciplined me because I needed it. Now let your unfailing love comfort me, just as you promised me, your servant. Surround me with your tender mercies so I may live, for your instructions are my delight. GOSPEL LESSON John 11:17-26, 41-44 NIV On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. Now Betha- ny was less than two miles from Jerusalem, and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home. “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.” 3 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will nev- er die. Do you believe this?” “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.” So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.” When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.” CHRIST KIDS TV The Children’s Message will be available on YouTube SERMON Making All Things New– New Life Pastor Tenny Shifley SONG I Will Rise 4 NICENE CREED OFFERING PRAYERS WORDS OF INSTITUTION LORD’S PRAYER Contemporary Wording Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
