jewishcare.org | 020 8922 2222 | 7 Meet Ellen and Alan, tenants of Selig Court, “After sixty years of marriage, it was our daughter who suggested we move into Selig Court from our home in Birmingham. We were open minded about it, and a little apprehensive about moving home, but once we saw it we felt it was the right place for us.” Ellen says, “As soon as I moved in I was happy here. We have made friends. It is wonderfully run, there is support and help when we need it but we also have our independence.” Alan says, “We are meeting people and making friends here and we are getting to spend much more time with the family, which is lovely.” Meet Jacqueline, tenant of Selig Court, Golders Green “I left my job as an antiques dealer in Portobello Road and moved into Selig Court a few months later. It was a big change for me but the move here came at the right time. Having worked my whole life, and having been widowed for 17 years, once I retired at the age of 89, being at home in my flat every day quickly became lonely. I saw this lovely flat and thought why live alone? I also realised that I wouldn’t have to worry here. If something happened to me, staff are here to support me. It is a place I can feel safe which for me is important.” Safe and secure Your safety and security are of paramount importance, which is why we have a number of measures in place to ensure you can relax and feel safe in your home all day, every day: Our buildings have secure entry systems and CCTV The security of our buildings is Community Security Trust (CST) approved Staff are on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week Each apartment features an advanced emergency call system, smoke detector, heat detector and carbon monoxide alarm

Future developments Sandringham – opening late 2019 Our largest project and probably our most ambitious to date, is the development of a care campus on the site of The Princess Alexandra Home on the Hertfordshire borders. This campus, known as Sandringham, will include Pears Court which will have 48 one-and two-bedroom Independent Living apartments in a beautiful semi-rural setting. We are not yet taking applications for these apartments; however, you can register your interest by calling our helpline on 020 8922 2222 or emailing [email protected] Redbridge The Redbridge Jewish Community Centre at Sinclair House has been a focal point of the local community for over 45 years. Following a series of discussions and meetings with members of the local Jewish community, we are currently in the planning stages of redeveloping the site to provide a new modern community centre alongside Independent Living apartments. Eligibility Our Independent Living service is open to anyone with a right to rent in the UK, who is over the age of 60 and needs a minimum of three hours support a week. There are a limited number of apartments for those eligible for affordable housing. At Selig Court, priority consideration for eligibility will be given to Holocaust survivors and refugees from Nazi persecution. What to expect when making an application Initially your application will be added to the waiting list for the Independent Living scheme you’ve chosen. Apartments are allocated based on care and housing need, as well as the date you applied to be added to the list. When an apartment becomes available you will be contacted by our Independent Living Scheme Manager who will arrange to carry out an assessment to make sure you are eligible for the service and that it can adequately meet your needs.
