Main teaching activity

• Groups discuss: - What could be a different ending to the story? - Will the Crocodile be punished, or will he change his ways and survive? • Groups come up with 3 possible new endings to the story. • Feedback ideas to the rest of the class.

Group or independent activity

• Groups choose their favourite ending. • Groups prepare to role play their ending. • Different members of the group take different roles: a Narrator, the Enormous Crocodile, and other characters - for example Trunky the Elephant, Mugglewump the Monkey, the Roly Poly Bird, Humpy-Rumpy the Hippopotamus. • The story must end with a sentence that contains either alliteration or a simile, like “He sizzled up like a sausage.”

Plenary

• Groups show their role plays to each other.

Other activities

• Study the names of the animals that use alliteration, rhyme or assonance (Mugglewump the Monkey, The Roly Poly Bird, Humpy Rumpy the Hippopotamus). The groups develop their stories to include another interesting animal in the story. The animal has a fun name using rhyme or assonance. • Make a storyboard for the new ending. • Write a story for the new ending.
