    National Agro-meteorological Committee (NAC) Advisory on the 2013 Autumn/Winter season Statement from Climate Change and Disaster Management 07 DAFF 2013 28 March 2013 In the light of the seasonal outlook as produced by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) and other centres, the following advisory guidelines are suggested. It is emphasized that these advisories are broad guidelines and should be interpreted considering the local aspects of the region such as soil types, cultural preferences and farming systems. Depending on the particular region, the prioritization of the guidelines will differ. The basic strategy to follow would be to minimize and diversify risk, optimize soil water availability and to manage the renewable resources (rain water and grazing) to uphold sound farming objectives. Long-term mitigation strategies should be considered by implementing techniques to enhance in-field water harvesting by reducing run-off and improving infiltration. Reduced tillage methods are very important in this regard, as is basin tillage, to capture rainwater in the drier areas. The provinces should further simplify, downscale and package the information according to their language preference and if possible use local radio stations and farmers’ days in disseminating the information.     1 November 2019 Your FREE Caxton Local Newspaper - www.bereamail.co.za THERE’S a groundswell of opposition to the drilling of exploration oil wells off the coast of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) with the South Durban Environmental Alliance (SDCEA), led by Desmond D’Sa challenging the authorisation granted by the Deparment of Mineral Resources (DMR) to foreign mining giants Eni and SASOL, permitting them to drill six exploration wells at two deep sea locations off KZN's coast. Speaking on their appeal, D’Sa said there was no consideration taken into account of how this exploration will affect the lives of millions of people who use the ocean. “KwaZulu-Natal has over 12 000 fi shers who depend on the ocean for a livelihood, a booming tourism and recreational industry whose source of income depends on the ocean. Our ocean has rich marine biodiversity many of which are endangered and run the risk of extinction. The public participation was inadequate and not meaningful as it failed to inform various communities along the entire coastline of KwaZulu-Natal,” he said. According to D’Sa, the public participation meetings only took place in Durban, Richards Bay and Port Shepstone, areas, he said, which did not represent the entire coastline. “It is evident that oil rigs have dire consequences on the environment and marine life. In the case of the Deepwater Horizon accident in 2010, more than 200 million gallons of crude oil spilled into the Gulf of Mexico killing 11 workers and destroying an abundance of marine life. “The South Durban Community Environmental Alliance together with many coastal communities of KwaZulu-Natal will be appealing this decision.

    MEDIA STATEMENT SABC ANNOUNCES MZANSI SUPER LEAGUE (MSL) BROADCAST SCHEDULE Johannesburg – Friday, 09 November 2018 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is pleased to release the broadcast schedule for the Mzansi Super League (MSL), in which the SABC has partnered with Cricket South Africa (CSA) to broadcast the tournament live and exclusive on SABC platforms. The hashtag for the league is #MSLT20 and this partnership will allow the SABC to bring the much anticipated #MSLT20 to millions of audiences across the country using the power of SABC Television, Radio and Digital platforms. The broadcast of the tournament will commence on Friday, the 16th of November 2018 until Sunday, the 16th of December 2018. The SABC will deliver all the #MSLT20 matches live and exclusive on SABC 3 and Radio 2000. Umhlobo Wenene FM will broadcast 22 matches live, whilst RSG is only carry live crossings This is the hottest sporting event this summer which is well positioned to drive the appetite of the sport to our audiences.
