Damana Melikishvili 236 Ioane Petritsi and John Italus on Two Original
236 Damana Melikishvili IOANE PETRITSI AND JOHN ITALUS ON TWO ORIGINAL CAUSES Damana Melikishvili The great medieval thinker and theologian Ioane Petritsi—“the Platonic Philosopher,” as contemporaries called him—is a representative of a new stage in the history of Christian thought. The study of his literary legacy has great importance for establishing trends of development in philosophy and theology both in Georgia and in the Christian Orient in general and the relationship between those trends with similar processes in Europe. The role of Neoplatonism in the formation of the history of philosophy and medieval theological thought is well known. This philosophical trend, which is considered to be a link between ancient Greek philosophy and medieval thought, also exerted a strong influence on medieval Georgian thought, which is evidenced by the translation of the Corpus Areopagiticum by Ephrem Mtsire (Minor) in the 11th century. There is a listing of textbooks in the Gelati theological-philosophical school known as the Gelati Academy (12–13th centuries); this school was a Georgian analogue of the Mangana School in Constantinople and employed the same trivium-quadrivium system of subjects. This listing of books broadly contains the same Neoplatonic literature that was used as textbooks in medieval European schools.1 It was on the basis of those translations and commentaries that Ephrem Mtsire, Arsen Iqaltoeli, and Ioane Petritsi formed the formal- semantic system of Georgian philosophical-theological terminology. Those thinkers based their intellectual pursuits on the “highest philosophy” that had been established in the medieval centers of learning, in which the Dialectic of John Damascene, which was a compendium of Aristotelian logic based on his commentators, held the main place among the subjects of the so-called trivium-quadrivium. -

Georgia's Philosophical Landscape
Georgia’s Philosophical Landscape – Spiritual Foundations and Perspectives Anastasia Zakariadze, Irakli Brachuli ANNALS of the University of Bucharest Philosophy Series Vol. LXVI, no. 1, 2017 pp. 135 –154. GEORGIA’S PHILOSOPHICAL LANDSCAPE – SPIRITUAL FOUNDATIONS AND PERSPECTIVES ANASTASIA ZAKARIADZE 1, IRAKLI BRACHULI 2 Abstract This article discusses the main trends of Georgian philosophy: its basic principles and perspectives, the importance of the Western, especially the European cultural heritage, and the Georgian contribution to the history of ideas in a global perspective. Metaphysical questions of cognition, truth, identity, virtue and value, wisdom and power, as well as issues of ethical, social, political and aesthetic values, phenomenological, philosophical-theological and linguistic research are central to Georgian philosophy and exemplify its continuing relevance vis-à-vis the Western tradition in its broadest sense. Although philosophical ideas in Georgia rarely matured into a well-balanced, self- sufficient system, one may distinguish as original conceptions some ideas of Christian Neo-Platonism and Aletheological Realism . Keywords: Georgian philosophy, European standard of philosophizing, Christian Neo-Platonism and Aletheological Realism, phenomenological-existential research, linguistic turn, philosophical-theological studies. I was aware of Neil Gaiman's legal battles over Angela, Cogliostro and Medieval Spawn but I had no idea the extent to which later issues would continually refer back to ideas which were outsourced. View basket. Showing I dunno they don't tell you much and it's a odd place to start. Another darn good volume of Spawn. Spawn: Origins, Volume 9. United Kingdom. And for years, the passengers and crew of the vessel Orpheus found the endless void between realities to be a surprisingly peaceful home. Spawn: Hell On Earth. Then the last one is kind of a weird one about Spawn seeing a different outlook on things and maybe not being a complete dick to everyone he meets all the time. Anyway next 4 issues begin the "Hunt" which has basically put Terry, Spawn's friend, in the middle of a all out war and everyone wants him done. Brit, Volume 1: Old Soldier. Seller Inventory ADI The guest writers on the early Spawn titles Moore, Morrison and Gaiman really hit it out of the park by establishing interesting lore that had implications for the whole Spawn universe. -
Anthology of Georgian Poetry
ANTHOLOGY OF GEORGIAN POETRY Translated by VENERA URUSHADZE STATE PUBLISHING HOUSE «Soviet Georgia» Tbilisi 1958 PREFACE Nature and history have combined to make Georgia a land of poetry. Glistening peaks, majestic forests, sunny valleys, crystalline streams clamouring in deep gorges have a music of their own, which heard by the sensitive ear tends to breed poetic thought; while the incessant struggle of the Georgians against foreign invaders — Persians, Arabs, Mongols, Turks and others — has bred in them a sense of chivalry and a deep patriotism which found expression in many a lay, ballad and poem. Now the treasures of Georgian literature, both ancient and modern, are accessible to millions of our country's readers for they have been translated into many languages of the peoples of the Soviet Union. Except for the very few but beautiful translations of the Wardrops almost nothing has been translated from Georgian into English. The published works of Marjory Wardrop are — "Georgian Folk Tales", "The Hermit", a poem by Ilia Chavchavadze (included in this anthology), "Life of St. Nino", ''Wisdom and Lies" by Saba Sulkhan Orbeliani. But her chief work was the word by word translation of the great epic poem "The Knight in the Tiger's Skin" by Shota Rustaveli. Oliver Wardrop translated "Visramiani". Now, I have taken the responsibility upon myself to afford the English reader some of the treasures of Georgian poetry. This anthology, without pretending to be complete, aims at including the specimens of the varied poetry of the Georgian people from the beginning of its development till to-day. I shall not speak of the difficulties of translating into English from Georgian, even though it might serve as an excuse for some of my shortcomings. -

United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin
UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE WESTERN DISTRICT OF WISCONSIN NEIL GAIMAN, et al., Plaintiffs, v. Case No. 02-CV-00048-bcc TODD McFARLANE, et al., Defendants. THE McFARLANE DEFENDANTS’ BRIEF IN OPPOSITION TO PLAINTIFF’S MOTION FOR ORDER DECLARING GAIMAN’S INTEREST IN CERTAIN COMIC BOOK CHARACTERS Defendants Todd McFarlane and Todd McFarlane Productions, Inc. (together, the “McFarlane Defendants”) submit this brief in opposition to plaintiff Gaiman’s motion for an order declaring that he has a copyright interest in the following three comic book characters: Dark Ages Spawn, Tiffany and Domina (the “Pending Accounting Motion”). INTRODUCTION As more fully discussed below, there are three distinct and fully sufficient grounds on which to deny the Pending Accounting Motion: 1. Mr. Gaiman is improperly attempting, through a post-judgment accounting procedure, to expand the judgment in this action to grant him an ownership interest in three additional copyrights despite having never asserted any such claim in the lawsuit. In particular, the three characters at issue in his motion were never raised in any fashion whatsoever—or even mentioned—in his pleadings or at trial in this case. Now, after judgment, Mr. Gaiman seeks improperly to supplement the record with hand-selected images that are misleading in their appearance. Due process requires that any adjudication of these new claims concerning additional characters be one in which the evidence can be tested, authenticated and explained to a trier of fact. A quasi-administrative, post-judgment accounting procedure is not the proper time or place, and this Court should reject Mr. Gaiman’s effort to obtain by way of motion what he has never sought by way of trial. -
Zaal Andronikashvili the Glory of Feebleness the Martyrological
Zaal Andronikashvili The Glory of Feebleness The Martyrological Paradigm in Georgian Political Theology For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. (Matthew 6:13) Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all. (1 Chronicles 29:11) A monument to Saint Georgia was erected on Freedom Square in Tbilisi on 23 November 2006. The unveiling of this monument on Tbilisi’s central square, which differing times bore the names Paskevich-Yerevanskij1 and Lenin Square, among others, was a symbolic step. In modern political mythology Saint George, who replaced Paskevich and Lenin (the Russian and Soviet imperial representatives), is not only Georgia’s guardian saint but an allegory of Georgia who, in this mythological narrative, fights against the dragon personifying the imperial legacy and the enemy of freedom. How- ever, the symbolism of the monument does not celebrate a victory over evil, but makes a promise of a future victory. In the fight against evil he brings an eschatological idea to modern political contexts and vice versa (he proj- ects modern political contexts onto eschatology). In spite of the secular in- terpretation, Saint George’s monument represents a variation on the basic paradigm of Georgian political theology. In my article I shall speak on this very paradigm. Georgian historiography has recently become interested in political theology.2 The comparative political theology of eastern Christendom is al- most unresearched.3 For this reason I am unable in the present article to dis- cuss this issue exhaustively.
