Hobbies: History of literature and art; alpinism (climbed most of the “Viertausender” in the Alps; International Caucasus Expedition 1979 [Mt. Elbrus] etc.). High School . Completed Leaside High School, Toronto, 1951, with grade “1” in all ten examina- tions. Undergraduate Study . Honour B.A. in music, University of Toronto, 1955, grade “1” all four years. Subjects: music, German, English, Italian, art history, and classical archaeology. Musical Performance . Piano; violoncello 1946-56 (intermediate diploma, Toronto Conservatory of Music, 1951). Participated in master classes of André Levy (Toronto) and Pablo Casals (Zermatt). Orchestral, chamber, and solo recitals. (Performance activities terminated 1956). Languages . Fluent (read, write, lecture, and publish) in English, German, and Italian; read Latin and French, some ancient Greek, Dutch, Spanish.
