The beautiful wooden boxes were fitted with highly crafted tools Registration is Still Open made from mother of pearl, ivory, gold or silver. Often a plain silk cushion or in rare instances, a beautiful silk cushion with embroidery, would be placed inside the box to protect the lovely tools. The tray holding the tools could be lifted out to reveal another space for treasures. My modern day version consists of a stitched cushion that when lifted out reveals a flat, silk tool holder tray for scissors, thread winders and a ruler. When the tool tray is lifted out, there are stitched pincushions (one of each side) and a pin keep/needle flat. A lovely silk pouch for the work box completes the set. Our beautiful work box measures 3”x6”x 1½” and is made exclusively for Merry out of Tiger maple wood. My grandmother – Ann (Handforth) Garlick. Given to me by my grandmother when I was 14 years old in 1908. (signed) Lillian Garlick. South Ashburnham. Massachusetts.” According to records online, Lillian Garlick (the granddaughter) was born on 4/23/1894 in Massachusetts. The lovely, poignant friendship poem on each sampler tells us how very close their friendship was and how difficult parting was for both of them. Friendship Sampler I & Accessories Merry has adapted the samplers and created accessories for each. Each sampler is finished with hemstitching. Friendship Sampler I has two accessory projects: First is a pin cushion with a wooden black base. When the actual pin cushion top is lifted off, it reveals two pockets that fan up, one holding scissors and the other holding needles. Second is a souvenir needlecase to commemorate a special trip or event with lots of stitching space for you to personalize. Merry designed her book to record her trip to Paris for her 70th birthday. Think of the endless possibilities for your special book.

Each element is offset up or down one thread relative to its immediate neighbor. The stitch sequence is shown in 17 13 9 5 1 the diagram at right. It can be worked in either 19 15 11 7 3 direction. This stitch is used for the background of the Leaves and Stem Blocks (#3, 13, and 17). The background of these blocks is two-toned: the center strip is worked in two strands of the medium green Paternayan bracketed by a strip on either side worked in two strands of a 3 lighter green Paternayan. Block 13 is diagrammed below. The previously stitched 13 17 leaves and stems are shown in gray. The background color change occurs at the dotted line, which runs through the tips of the outer Diamond Ray Stitches. The strip on the left is 8 threads wide; the strip on the right is 9 threads wide. In order to fit better around the central motif, the Brick stitch is rotated by 90 degrees, as shown in the diagram. You may need to rotate your frame 90 degrees to stitch and lay the yarn comfortably. Place a waste knot about an inch and a half below —1“ and come up at —1“ to start the sequence.

    Lincoln County 4-H/FFA Indoor Exhibits General Rules and Policies 1. Any bona fide 4-H and FFA member in Lincoln County in good standing is eligible to exhibit, provided he/she has not reached his/her 19th birthday as of January 1. A 4-H member is in good standing if they have complied with the club or state requirements of membership and were enrolled in a club/project by April 1st of the current year. 2. All exhibit entries must be checked in before being displayed. Superintendents will be in charge. See Calendar of Events for check-in times. All 4-H exhibits must be pre- registered by July 15, 2021. All 4-H members must have participated in fair clean-up day in order to exhibit in the 4-H section. 3. Entries will be taken 3:00 pm-7:00 pm Monday and from 8:00am- 11:00am Tuesday. Judging will take place at 12:00pm on Tuesday. 4. Only official personnel, superintendents and judges will be allowed in the exhibit area during judging of the exhibits. 5. The decision of the judges is final. 6. Awards: Ribbons will be awarded to all exhibits. American Judging System will be used in the indoor exhibits for novice, juniors and seniors. Each entry is considered against every other entry and judged against a standard or ideal. If no entries are deemed worthy of the first place award, no first place will be given. Cloverbuds will be awarded participation ribbons as mandated by New Mexico State 4-H.
