BRISBANE Club president Michael Byrne wants his club to find a home away from Albion Park. “I would like to see the club have control over its own destiny, and I doubt that’s possible at Albion Park,” he told The Journal. All greyhound racing in Queensland is aware of the review of the Albion Park Racing Complex, and Byrne believes a move to an industry controlled venue could be the saviour of not only this industry but of his club. Byrne and the Brisbane Club have always been vocal about the fact they never wanted to move from the Gabba back in 1992. “That’s been the biggest change in my time as president of this club,” he said. “We didn’t want to go. We were forced into it and we didn’t get a lot of say in the move. “We also picked up the (on-going cost of) a very expensive lighting system and lost the LEFT: Mike Byrne presents Tony Zammit with his award for premier trainer at Albion Park in 2005.
