Meols Cop High School Annual Dance Festival 2017 Meols Cop High School Weekly Bulletin Week Ending Inclusive Excellence for ALL Friday 24 March 2017 MEOLS COP HIGH SCHOOL ANNUAL DANCE FESTIVAL 2017 Last week on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th March, Meols Cop High School held its annual dance festival. There were 196 students involved in the festival either performing, or back stage helping, including 5 local primary schools. Both nights, all students showed an amazing amount of talent from a range of year groups, displaying; 100% commitment, determination, creativity, confidence and team work. As a school we are extremely proud of all the students who performed in the show and are overwhelmed with the amount of talent we have at Meols Cop. A special well done to Zach Hands-Hibbert, Luke Ashton and Harry Holmes- Moore for presenting the show in a mature, respectable manner. All the primary performances were amazing on both nights and it is very exciting to see young talent on stage. The costume competition was extremely close, however there could only be one winner; a massive well done to Bishop David Sheppard on their creative, homemade pirate costumes. A special thank you to the following year 8/9 dance leaders who have worked alongside each primary school; choreographing, rehearsing and refining the performances for the past 9 weeks in preparation for the competition: Tia Howard Nicole Helsby Gabbi Niemen Brooke McFord Rebecca Kilduff Cerys Burrows Rachel Grant Charlotte Maher Natasha Porter Mae Forshaw Heidi McMullen Emily Murray Alicia Lloyd-Stafford Nicola Powell Jessica Dewhurst As always a huge thank you from Miss Pilling to all the students and teachers who performed and helped in making the dance festival a massive success. Until next year… Congratulations to Lauryn Beggs achieving the dance star of the month award, displaying; 100% enthusiasm, creativity and commitment to dance in and outside of lessons. STUDENT INTERVIEW TEAM Our student interview team has been busy over the past week and such has been their demand, the team has grown. Kieran Samuels, Shakil Zaman, Stuart Ball and Kiera McArdle have demonstrated a superbly professional approach to their duties and have been joined by Tia Amy, Dylan Tindall, Charmaine Benito and Oliver Hagan who have proven to be the most wonderful additions to the team. When appointing new teachers, their views are essential to Mr Jones, helping him make the very best decisions for all of our students. Meols Cop High School Weekly Bulletin Week Ending Inclusive Excellence for ALL Friday 24 March 2017 OUR STUDENT COUNCIL IN THE COMMUNITY On Monday 20th March members of the school council were delighted to be invited to work with pupils from Holy Trinity Primary School, Holy Family Primary and the Community Parks Officers to design a Sensory Garden which will be created at the Kings Gardens in Southport. The students have been working with local primary schools on a project called the Green Machine which has helped to redesign and renovate the gardens for the local community and tourists to use. The green Machine team researched different aspects that would be needed in a sensory garden including planting and ideas for smell, sight, sound, taste and touch. They then designed their ideas in small groups and presented them to each other. The best ideas from each group will now be included in the sensory garden which the Green Machine will plant before the summer. CAREERS Earlier this week some year 11 students gave up their lunch time to attend a ‘Motivational Lunch’ with Tim Cahill from Runshaw College. Attendance was voluntary but those who attended found the session inspiring and encouraged them to work hard towards their goals at GCSE. Inspiration was not however their only reward, there were two more incentives; one in the shape of a sticky doughnut and the other we hope will be realised in August on results day! Meols Cop High School Weekly Bulletin Week Ending Inclusive Excellence for ALL Friday 24 March 2017 FABULOUS ARTISTS! Miss Morgan’s Year 11 GCSE Art class are beginning to see the completion of two years hard endeavour on their completed sketchbooks and final pieces and Miss Morgan just wants to say well done to the whole class. All students in the class have worked to a high standard and showed excellent understanding of composition and application of media, I look forward to the exhibition of their work in the Summer. Well done again! Our school was a signatory to this letter and we are as frustrated as any other school with the current funding situation which has seen real cuts to every school in England’s budget. We agreed that we wouldn’t speak about our own situation or compare our finance publicly with other schools so that the honest concern that some schools may try to attract parents/children to their own school by painting their own financial situation as rosier than others, doesn’t happen. Whilst my main concern and priority has to be the standard of education that Meols Cop offers, I refuse to make any comments that would adversely impact on another school and hope that all of our friends at the other high schools in the Southport area are able to weather the financial crisis as best as they can. These are unprecedented times in education and we must be supportive internally of each other in our own community and in the wider education community. It would be wonderful if parents could lobby MP’s and send their thoughts via social media so that the government can see the strength of opinion around Sefton and Southport regarding the lack of funds for schools in our own area and the nationwide picture. I’m not sure that the government will listen, but it is important that opportunities to be heard are taken and I hope that our parents feel as strongly as I do about what is happening and share my concern about how inadequate funding can impact on the future of our children. The local MP has been very supportive and vocal. David Jones REvise, REcall, REmember Excellent results in RE REvise REcall REmember key Finn Radcliffe concepts tests. Meols Cop High School Weekly Bulletin Week Ending Inclusive Excellence for ALL Friday 24 March 2017 MUY BIEN! Absolutely above and beyond proud of my Year 11s today! They came into lesson only to see yet ANOTHER past paper but started it without complaint. It is one of the hardest papers we’ve seen in a while, with several really tricky questions on the paper, however they managed to achieve some fabulous results! A huge well done to them! Caris Dixon Anastasia Murusidze Jay Douglas Shannon Porter Conor Forshaw Megan Powderly Harry Holmes-Moore Jack Redshaw Nathan Hosker Rebecca Roberts-Winning Chloe Judd Jordan Lovegrove From Miss Forrest SCIENCE STARS A massive well done to 9.3a in their recent science test. Their success is down to their positive mindsets, especially Tom Ward and Ellis Baker. Keep up the hard work everyone!! From Mrs McLeigh. JUMP FOR NOAH TOTAL RAISED SO FAR £1112! A huge thank you to everyone who has sponsored Mrs Senior so far! Mrs Senior, one of our Science teachers, has decided to do the world’s biggest bungee jump in South Africa during the Easter holidays, in order to raise the final funds for Noah’s hydrotherapy pool. Noah is a year 8 student at Meols Cop High School and has a condition called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This is a condition which causes severe muscle wasting. Hydrotherapy is really important for Noah to carry out exercise to keep his heart as healthy as possible, as this is the only form of exercise possible for him. He needs approximately £4000 to reach the target so that the work can begin. We would really appreciate it if parents, their families and friends could support Mrs Senior by sponsoring her jump and help Noah get the pool he so desperately needs. To see the world’s biggest bungee in action, look on YouTube for Bloukrans Bridge, South Africa. You can either drop money/cheques off at Meols Cop High School reception or alternatively parents can donate via ParentPay online. Many thanks for your support. Meols Cop High School Weekly Bulletin Week Ending Inclusive Excellence for ALL Friday 24 March 2017 END OF TERM THURSDAY 30 MARCH Year 7/8 Years 7 and 8 will finish at 12.20pm, they may have a meal in the dining hall if they wish, it is not necessary to pre-book.

  • Years Information Update
Formby High School ‘Determined to Achieve’ Headteacher: DMA/LFO Mr D A Mackenzie BA (Hons) NPQH Freshfield Road Formby 18 June 2021 Liverpool L37 3HW 01704 873100 enquiries@ formbyhighschool.com www. formbyhighschool.com Dear Parent @FormbyHigh Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on Monday that there will be a delay to the easing of Covid-19 restrictions until 19 July, the school is currently reviewing all planned activities until the end of term to ensure that risk assessments have been appropriately reviewed in light of the delay. As a school, we are committed to ensuring we can continue with as many activities as we can safely deliver for our students. Any changes which do need to be made to planned activities will be communicated in due course. As promised during my letter on 11 June 2021, I have consulted with the Headteacher of Range High School and we have decided that staff and students will continue to wear face coverings in classrooms and communal spaces in school during week commencing 21 June 2021. Both schools continue to manage positive Covid-19 cases and consider this control measure, along with the continued twice weekly testing of staff and students, essential in mitigating the extent of the impact in our schools. I would also like to share with you a letter from the Secretary of State for Education for all parents of secondary school children (please click here) about testing. The use of face coverings in school will continue to be reviewed on a weekly basis and I will write to you again on Friday 25 June 2021.

  • A NORTH MEOLS DOCUMENT of 1716. R I ^HE Document Here
A NORTH MEOLS DOCUMENT OF 1716. By F. H. Cheetham, F.S.A. r I ^HE document here printed was till lately in the old A Town's chest, at the parish church of St. Cuthbert, North Meols (Churchtown, Southport), but with other township papers was in February, 1931, transferred to the custody of the Southport Corporation, and is now at the Southport Town Hall. It is written on the first page of a sheet of paper folded into two leaves of 12 by 8 inches. The outer edge of the first leaf is slightly broken, and some of the words are therefore imperfect, but they are easily read and are here restored in italics. The document, as will be seen, is addressed to the Inhabitants of the Parish of North Meols, and conveys to them the decision of five Deputy Lieutenants of the County of Lancaster in the matter of a dispute, or differ ence, between the Townships of North Meols and Birk- dale (which together constituted the Parish cf North Meols) touching their respective shares in the payment of the Militia Tax levied on the parish by the County. For County purposes the parish was the unit of local government, but in respect to its own affairs each town ship was governed by its Vestry and nominated its own officers. The two North Meols Townships differed con siderably in extent and population, the area of North Meols being 8,467 acres, and that of Birkdale 2,214 acres. 1 The population in 1716 can only be conjectured, 1 V.C.H.

  • The Hawthorne's Free School- Impact Assessment 2012 Author
Title: The Hawthorne’s Free School- Impact Assessment 2012 Author: Department for Education (DfE) Impact Assessment – Section 9 Academies Act Duty 1. Section 9 of the Academies Act 2010 places a duty upon the Secretary of State to take into account what the impact of establishing the additional school would be likely to be on maintained schools, Academies, institutions within the further education sector and alternative provision. 2. The rationale for establishing a Free School is to retain a secondary school in a very deprived community in response to parental demand, given the LA’s plan to close 2 existing local schools, St George of England High School and St Wilfred’s RC High School. The intention is to use the St George school building as the site for the new school to open in September 2012. The expectation being that the majority of pupils from both closing schools will choose to attend the new Free School alongside a new Year 7 cohort. Admission numbers are currently expected to be in the range 475 – 490 against an admission number in year 1 of 510. 3. The Hawthorne’s Free School is an 11 – 16, non-denominational school with a Christian ethos seeking to open in 2012 with an initial capacity of 510 in the first year, rising to 600 pupils over time. This gradual increase in capacity is because some of the year groups in the upper years of the school are likely to be below capacity in the early years given the numbers in the 2 closing schools, from which the Free School will principally attract pupils.

  • Meols Cop High School Weekly Bulletin Week Ending Inclusive Excellence for ALL Friday 5 May 2017
Meols Cop High School Weekly Bulletin Week Ending Inclusive Excellence for ALL Friday 5 May 2017 The bulletin is quite thin this week due to a 3 day week for the students! I hope that everyone enjoyed the Bank Holiday weekend. You may have noticed the building work at the front of school and this is due to our long awaited elec- tric sub-station. The school is running at its maximum electrical usage at the moment and should we wish to add extra buildings or increase the use of technology, we may find that the whole system would blow! Hence the desperate need for more power and this will allow us, within a tight financial budget, to improve facilities and cope with the ever increasing admissions’ demand. By September we will have added an additional science lab to cope with additional numbers and will move the Asperger’s base so that it joins with our dyslexic unit and forms a new exciting area including a sensory room. We have already made improvements to the dining room queuing system which has meant much quicker queues and are looking to extend covered areas, again to cope with the increase in numbers and to have more space available when it is wet. The mentor’s room has been improved so that the confidential needs of students can be better met and this An extra PE teaching room may be incorporated into the 2 gyms and we have plans for additional class- rooms over the next year to give us a greater capacity for the numbers of students who want to join our school.

  • Meols Cop High School Weekly Bulletin Week Ending Inclusive Excellence for ALL Friday 25Th January 2019
Meols Cop High School Weekly Bulletin Week Ending Inclusive Excellence for ALL Friday 25th January 2019 Dear parents, students and friends of Meols Cop, When I first started teaching here in September 1980 I had absolutely no idea that I would still be here in 2019 and as your Headteacher too! There have been some wonderful successes over the years, some marvellous stories to tell and our school is now in a very strong position to continue to move forwards and continue to deliver the high quality of education that you expect of us. I have taught different generations of families and watched 11 year old children become 50+ year old adults and I shall always remember the warmth and support that our community has shown to me. I am almost an honorary Sandgrounder now or as close as an old Mancunian can get! With our school over-subscribed again, financially stable and with the most fantastic supportive colleagues, governors and parents a Head could wish for, it is without doubt the right time for me to retire from Meols Cop and to hand over to a new Headteacher who can drive Meols Cop upwards and onwards. Our school provides a fantastic opportunity for the right person and I know that the reputation of the school will bring candidates of great quality and potential to interview and the successful applicant will be an extremely lucky person indeed. I will say more as the final time approaches for me to say goodbye and will keep you up-dated as to who the next Headteacher will be after the interviews have taken place.

  • Schools Regulatory Services Determined Scheme for Co
SCHOOLS REGULATORY SERVICES DETERMINED SCHEME FOR CO-ORDINATION OF ADMISSIONS TO SEFTON SECONDARY SCHOOLS 2017 The scheme set out below seeks to comply with the requirements of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, as later amended and the School Admissions Code 2014 and any further updates, in respect of co-ordinated admissions schemes. The Local Authority scheme for coordination of admissions will come into force for admission applications submitted from September 2016 for the admission of pupils transferring from primary to Secondary school in September 2017. Children transfer from primary to secondary schools in the September following their eleventh birthday. The Education and Skills Act 2008 increased the minimum age at which young people in England can leave learning, thus requiring them to continue in education or training to the age of 18. All 11 year olds starting secondary education in September 2017 will continue their learning in Education and or training until the age of 18. Sefton Local Authority has a statutory duty to co-ordinate the primary to secondary transfer process for admissions to Secondary Schools within Sefton. In addition to the statutory co- ordination role, the Local Authority is the Admissions Authority for Community Secondary Schools in the Borough. This means the Admissions Criteria for those schools is set by the Local Authority. Sefton Local Authority administers an Equal Preference Admissions Scheme. This means that each individual preference (school) listed on the Local Authority application form will be considered equally according to each individual school’s admissions criteria. If a place can be offered at more than one of the preferences listed on the application form, then the Local Authority will automatically offer the highest preferred school.
