I hope you are doing well and enjoying the lovely weather. I am looking forward to being president for the coming year. I reviewed the Old Ride website (www.oldride.com ) to see what the car show calendar looked like. April looks to be a busy month. On Saturday, April 10, alone there are not one, not two, but six car shows around the Metroplex. Hopefully, there won’t be too many “April showers” on the weekends and folks can take out their cars and enjoy the shows. Here’s a fun fact that involves Oldsmobile. Oldsmobile, along with Buick and Pontiac, made a presentation to GM brass to produce what would become the 1963 Riviera. In 1959, Experimental Project XP-715 was assigned to what [email protected] was going to be GM’s new personal luxury car to deal with the “Thunder- bird problem.” At this point, the design studio didn’t know which GM divi- sion would build the car, but Bill Mitchell wanted Cadillac. When the design was completed, a fiberglass model was presented to the heads of each GM Address: City: State: Zip: Please check option below I would like to receive the newsletter electronically I would like to receive a hard copy by mail division. Cadillac turned it down saying they didn’t need a new model as they were selling cars as fast as they could build them. Chevrolet the same. "The Rocket" However, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Buick were all interested, and a series of marketing presentations were scheduled to see which division would build [email protected] the car. Buick’s presentation blew away its sister divisions and the Executive Oldsmobile Club North Texas Committee transferred the XP-715 to Buick, which later became the Riviera. Box 856, Rowlett, TX 75030-856 P.O. Makes one wonder what if Oldsmobile had won? Would there have been an Oldsmobile Toronado? Hmmm… Complete all information and mail with your payment to: Take care. Annual dues are prorated at $2.00 per month from the you join until April 1st. Fred The NTOC is a chapter of the O.C.A. (Oldsmobile Club America). 110 YEARS OF AMERICAN STYLE: BUICK CELEBRATES ITS ANNIVERSARY WITH A DISPLAY AT THE AACA MUSEUM By Richard P. Sills Buick, one of the oldest surviving brands of American automobiles, celebrated its 110th anniversary on May 19, 2013. It is fitting that this milestone occasion is celebrated by a special display, "Beautiful Buicks: 110 Years of American Style", at the AACA Museum in Hershey, PA. The display coincides with Riviera's 50th anniversary, and the AACA Museum's 10th anniversary. Visitors to the museum are greeted by six Buicks in the lobby, representing the evolution of the marque from horseless carriage to modern high‐performance. On the turntables are a 1910 Buick Model 10 Surrey, owned by the Museum and "adopted" by the Mason‐Dixon Chapter of BCA, and a 1987 GNX loaned by Buick Heritage Alliance board member Guy Bennett of Wayland, New York. The GNX is #470 of just 547 produced, and has less than 600 miles since new. It still has the factory‐installed plastic covers on the seats and carpets. It was sold new by Mr. Bennett's dealership, which has been selling Buicks continuously since 1922. Four other Buicks in the lobby of the Museum represent outstanding examples of the marque as it appeared over the years: 1935 Model 96S Sport Coupe, one of 41 produced and believed to be the only known survivor. Resplendent in Ambassador Maroon with tan leather interior, this elegant coupe is equipped with side mounted tires with steel covers and a luggage rack. It is owned by the Bulgari Collection of Allentown, Pennsylvania, and was restored to participate in Buick's centennial celebration in 2003.' 1964 Rivera, Regal Black with red interior, an elegant example of the first generation of Buick's personal luxury car that was a design triumph of Bill Mitchell and Ned Nickles.

  • MMOCC Newsletter – FEBRUARY 2021
MMOCC Newsletter – FEBRUARY 2021 Lindy's Speedster MMOCC member Wes Scott is working to put a 1931 Franklin Dietrich Speedster back on the road that may have, originally, belonged to the famous Spirit of St. Louis pilot, Charles Lindbergh. Charles Lindbergh 1932 Wes and Betty Scott 2020 Independence Mo. 1979 Wes and his son, Don, first saw this car in May of 1983 when they followed its owner home from the Lawrence Swap Meet to his home near Kansas City. Jim Bray had bought the car in 1979 in Independence where it had been stored since 1951 and, like the previous owner, Jim was going to “Restore It” so it was not for sale. Daylight after 40 years of storage on 6/20/20 Jim had taken it apart. Sept. 2019 Over the years, Wes lost track of Jim and his Franklin until August of 2019 when a lady from Arkansas called and said that her mother had inherited, what they thought, was a 1927 Franklin and a whole house full of Franklin parts. They found a letter from Wes in Jim's stuff and wanted to know if Wes would come look at the car and tell her what it was worth. In September of 2019, Wes and Don got another look at the car that they wanted to buy 38 years earlier. It was sitting in the same garage and the garage doors were still screwed shut… it was just in more pieces. Inside the house were two Franklin engines and a disassembled 1925 Franklin coupe. With the help of MMOCC members and three trucks and trailers, all the Franklin stuff was hauled to Wes' garage in June of 2020 and the process of sorting out all the parts started.
