In 1955 Ford rolled out with something it hadn't seen since 1938, a two- seater. The Thunderbird was developed by Ford to compete with the first-generation Corvette. Dubbed "a personal car of distinction", the car built on the heritage of the roadsters of the 30's, yet was making strides toward becoming the next evolution of a personal luxury car. The car was designed to be so lightweight yet accept such a massive V-8, it truly was the epitome of Hot Rodding. It did however focus more on driver comfort than speed, and because of this it was not a direct rival to the European sports cars. If you're lucky enough to see a '55-'57 Thunderbird, chances are it won't be this nice. With all the amenities you would want in a luxury car like the 4-way power seats, an added easy entry/exit mode that moves the seat back so you can get in/out easily, a 312 cubic inch engine that made nearly 300 horsepower, and a whole list of things you wouldn't believe existed in 1957, you'll be left wanting nothing else in a car. and with only 21,000 made, I'm sure there's not many left. 110 YEARS OF AMERICAN STYLE: BUICK CELEBRATES ITS ANNIVERSARY WITH A DISPLAY AT THE AACA MUSEUM By Richard P. Sills Buick, one of the oldest surviving brands of American automobiles, celebrated its 110th anniversary on May 19, 2013. It is fitting that this milestone occasion is celebrated by a special display, "Beautiful Buicks: 110 Years of American Style", at the AACA Museum in Hershey, PA. The display coincides with Riviera's 50th anniversary, and the AACA Museum's 10th anniversary. Visitors to the museum are greeted by six Buicks in the lobby, representing the evolution of the marque from horseless carriage to modern high‐performance. On the turntables are a 1910 Buick Model 10 Surrey, owned by the Museum and "adopted" by the Mason‐Dixon Chapter of BCA, and a 1987 GNX loaned by Buick Heritage Alliance board member Guy Bennett of Wayland, New York. The GNX is #470 of just 547 produced, and has less than 600 miles since new. It still has the factory‐installed plastic covers on the seats and carpets. It was sold new by Mr. Bennett's dealership, which has been selling Buicks continuously since 1922. Four other Buicks in the lobby of the Museum represent outstanding examples of the marque as it appeared over the years: 1935 Model 96S Sport Coupe, one of 41 produced and believed to be the only known survivor. Resplendent in Ambassador Maroon with tan leather interior, this elegant coupe is equipped with side mounted tires with steel covers and a luggage rack. It is owned by the Bulgari Collection of Allentown, Pennsylvania, and was restored to participate in Buick's centennial celebration in 2003.' 1964 Rivera, Regal Black with red interior, an elegant example of the first generation of Buick's personal luxury car that was a design triumph of Bill Mitchell and Ned Nickles.

White Announces Winners at 2002 Antique Vehicle Show SPRINGFIELD –– A 1954 Hudson convertible owned by Chris Davis of Charleston won the top award at the 2002 Secretary of State's Antique Vehicle Show Sept. 7 at the State Fairgrounds in Springfield. Secretary of State Jesse White said Davis received the Illinois State Champion award for having the best overall vehicle in the show. "With 243 entries this year, the show was one of the biggest and best in its 53-year history," said White. "The show attracted some of the most beautifully restored antique and classic vehicles in the state, as well as sports cars and motorcycles." A 1931 Studebaker President owned by Dick Stewart of Crete received the special Marque award as the best Studebaker in the show. The Marque award honors a different automobile manufacturer each year. White said first place winners in 44 classifications received "State Champion in Class" awards, and second and third place winners also received awards.
