Thousands of other books, including many of the most important and unusual, never found their way into my catalogues, having been quickly sold before their descriptions could appear in print. In the last fifteen years, since my Catalogue 100 appeared, many truly exceptional books passed through my hands. Of these, I would like to mention three. The first, sold in 2003 was a copy of the first edition in Latin of the Columbus Letter of 1493. This is now in a private collection. In 2004, I was offered a book which I scarcely dreamed of owning: the Narratio Prima of Rheticus, printed in 1540. Presenting the first announcement of the heliocentric system of Copernicus, this copy in now in the Linda Hall Library in Kansas City, Missouri. Both of the books were sold before they could appear in my catalogues. Finally, the third book is an absolutely miraculous uncut copy in the original limp board wallet binding of Galileo’s Sidereus Nuncius of 1610. Appearing in my Catalogue 178, this copy was acquired by the Library of Congress. This is the first and, probably the last, “personal” catalogue I will prepare. -

Their records document campaigns, international congresses and other meetings, committees, finances, lectures and other programs, literary prizes awarded, membership, publications, and social events over several decades. Non-English items are sometimes accompanied by translations. The official campaign will start on 21st May next. Téléchargez et lisez attentivement les documents disponibles dans cette page, ils vous aideront à progresser, cela devrait être notre obsession. Nous ignorons d'où nous partons vraiment, et nous ne savons pas non plus où nous arriverons. Voilà qui est tout à fait passionnant et devrait nous stimuler ou nous encourager à faire preuve de détermination, afin de donner de la substance à notre aspiration ou à notre idéal de justice et de liberté. Il est le résultat de deux années de travail dans les fonds d’archives français et d’écriture collective de la recherche. Il est remis au Président de la République le 26 mars 2021, et aussitôt rendu public en vertu de la décision prise à la création de la Commission le 5 avril 2019. Le Rapport est accessible en intégralité sur le site de la pré- sidence de la République et réglementairement sur celui de la DILA (ex-Documentation française), ainsi que sur le site institutionnel de la Commission et sur celui du ministère de l’Europe et des Affaires étran- gères. Un résumé en anglais est diffusé simultanément. L’organisation interne du manuscrit permet un accès facile à son contenu, grâce à une table des matières détaillée, des introductions et conclusions de cha- pitre, et l’introduction générale qui suit, ainsi que les conclusions finales. Conformément à l’engagement de la Commission de recherche, la publication de son Rapport est suivie, le 7 avril 2021, de l’accès à tout public des sources du Rapport sous forme de fac-similés intégraux de l’ensemble des archives exploitées par la Commission de recherche, docu- ments classifiés ou non*. -

Service des droits des femmes et de l’égalité entre les femmes et les hommes Synthèse de l’actualité 18 mai 2012 Action institutionnelle Le président de la République a nommé un gouvernement paritaire Le président de la République, François HOLLANDE, a nommé, le mercredi 16 mai 2012, les membres du nouveau Gouvernement sur la proposition du Premier ministre, Jean‐Marc AYRAULT. La composition du Gouvernement a été annoncée par Pierre‐René LEMAS, Secrétaire général de la présidence de la République. S’il marque le retour d'un ministère chargé de l’égalité entre les femmes et les hommes de plein exercice, le nouveau gouvernement est aussi le premier gouvernement paritaire de l'histoire politique française. Dix‐sept femmes sont en effet nommées sur les trente‐quatre membres du nouveau gouvernement, une « promesse tenue » soulignée par l’ensemble des médias. Les gouvernements de François FILLON nommés en mai et juin 2007 avaient été qualifiés de « paritaire » dans la presse (synthèse du 21 mai et 28 juin 2007). Avec sept femmes ministres sur quinze le premier gouvernement était de fait le plus féminisé de la Ve République, mais les observatrices féministes notaient déjà une régression en juin avec onze femmes et vingt‐deux hommes sur trente‐trois membres, et surtout l’absence d’un ministère en charge des droits des femmes et de l’égalité entre les femmes et les hommes. From the Military History Working Group at the Hoover Institution http://www.hoover.org/taskforces/military-history/strategika Military History in Contemporary Conflict As the very name of Hoover Institution attests, military history lies at the very core of our dedication to the study of “War, Revolution, and Peace.” Indeed, the precise mission statement of the Hoover Institu- tion includes the following promise: “The overall mission of this Institution is, from its records, to recall the voice of experience against the making of war, and by the study of these records and their publica- tion, to recall man’s endeavors to make and preserve peace, and to sustain for America the safeguards of the American way of life.” From its origins as a library and archive, the Hoover Institution has evolved into one of the foremost research centers in the world for policy formation and pragmatic analysis. It is with this tradition in mind, that the “Working Group on the Role of Military History in Contemporary Conflict” has set its agenda—reaffirming the Hoover Institution’s dedication to historical research in light of contemporary challenges, and in particular, reinvigorating the national study of military his- tory as an asset to foster and enhance our national security. By bringing together a diverse group of distinguished military historians, security analysts, and military veterans and practitioners, the working group seeks to examine the conflicts of the past as critical lessons for the present. -
