Well this month will be a little different! We have the presentation for the 2009 George Derrick Memorial Rally. Yes folks, it been and gone! Several people were involved in making the event run, and I’d like to thank them all for the work they put in to making the event happen. The organising team faced several hurdles leading up to the event, but in the end the skills of our club members pooled together got the job done. Top work all! The presentation will kick off just after 7.45pm, so for those of you coming, lets try and make it happen on time - we’ll also be upstairs this time... In other exciting news, the Begonia rally will be happening soon.. I think they are still looking for volunteers, so give the organising team a call if you are free that day. I was going to run a stage, but can no longer do it – Docs orders not to drive for 24 hours.. (nothing major, just getting my ears refreshed for a possible 3rd term at the helm...). Speaking of refreshed, the Cerberus Pussies have again, guided by Justin “I try to think, but it hurts most times” Dowel, have requested the presence of CCRMIT at their club night, so that they may take some driving instructions from our diverse range of skilled drivers. They are actually having a club night out at LeMans go kart track in Dandenong, and will be doing a few laps. If you’ve ever wanted to see how well you can race against an“ARC” driver, here’s your chance.. Though we all know Justin’s credibility as a driver.. More info somewhere in the blower.. I’m sure there is more to tell, but most important is again to start thinking about volunteering some time for the 2010 committee, or alternative ways that you can assist the club.. That’s enough for now, see ya Thursday, or in the forest! Cheers Pres Jimbo Quick Note From An Editor So The Blower is a little late this month... Submissions were late and I ended up having to drive to the Phillip Island 6hr Via Mt Hotham (800km trip from Pakenham). I spent some time on snow chains sliding around in a Blizzard on the way up the hill to pick Deb up from work (Hotham is a hell of a commute). Little did I know that I would be sliding down a hill again the very next day... only this time it would be Lukey Heights on the Phillip Island GP circuit after a major rear brake lock up (brain fade). Usual stuff this month: A few photos and some articles that people have sent in (after some arm twisting). I didn’t have time to do anything too creative or imagantive, so I would hazard a guess that this will be a fairly short edition of the Blower by the time it goes to print. Events have happened and I’ve little to print... Beginning to think that no-one cares... Enough cr@p from me... Read on... Held in the Barossa Valley, the event offered fast flowing shire roads that attract thousands of spectators. Driving their Toyota Corolla Group N (p), the Raymond team along with Neal Bates and Simon Evans all had a mathematical chance of winning the championship. Heat one was instantly flat out for the three crews. Raymond was to finish the heat in 2nd outright behind Simon Evans, with Neal Bates disappointingly succumbing to electrical problems after entering the last stage of the stage 0.4 seconds in front of Raymond. “It was a shame we didn’t get to have a battle with Neal (Bates) and Coral (Taylor) on the last stage,” said navigator Matt Raymond at the end of the first day. “However, this cements our second place in the championship and we will lift-off tomorrow for a finish in Heat 2.” Heat 2 bought an easy result for Raymond, cruising through to finish 3rd Outright for the Heat and 3rd Outright for the event. “We are very happy with how this year has gone. This year we worked on consistency, and thanks to the mechanical preparation by Mammi Motors, we were able to finish every stage of every rally,” stated driver Glen Raymond. “To finish second outright in between two multiple Australian Champions is very exciting. Next year we hope to be in a more competitive car and hopefully take the next step up the podium.” The Raymond’s now look forward to the Pirelli Star Driver Shootout at Australia’s World Rally Championship Round in Northern New South Wales in September. Competing against 9 of the Asia Pacific’s fastest under 27 year old drivers, if successful Glen and Matt Raymond will receive a fully sponsored drive in 6 rounds of World Rally Championship in 2010. The team would like to thank its supporters who make it possible to compete at national level: Raymond Partners Accountants, JNJ Electrical Contractors, Bendigo Bank, Mammi Motors, Pirelli Tyres, Blackwell Bodyworks, Quality Site Welding, Melbourne Performance Centre, Warragul Signs, Moe Engines, Jen's Dinkum Discounts and VicParts. 2009 George Derrick Memorial Rally – From the Clerk of Course. G’day all, the event has been run and won and there is only the presentation to complete. CCRMIT ran a successful event again, thanks in no small part to a very talented and dedicated directing team. Of course it doesn’t happen without a horde of officials in the forest and once again the Mt Cole and Pyrenees forest roads required numerous road closures as did the Pyrenees shire roads close to Avoca. My thanks go to every one of those people in the forest from the road closure officials to the stage commanders and course cars. It would not have been as successful without them. This year the event had a huge profile on the day in the centre of Avoca and based on the feedback we’ve received, was welcomed by the town. Seems they’d be happy to have us back. Next year? Ask next years Clerk of Course! The event presentation will be held at Bell’s Hotel in South Melbourne (cnr Moray and Coventry Sts) on Thursday 13th August 2009 from 8.00pm. We’d like to see you there and you are all invited to the presentation and for a drink and a chat afterwards. The results are elsewhere in this fine publication. Once again thanks on behalf of the directing team to all involved on the day.
