We sincerely hope that this competition will raise environmental awareness amongst our children, demonstrate 06 ways to follow a sustainable lifestyle and to teach the children of today, how to live for tomorrow.

JEC Awarded HK$124 Million Contract from Hong Kong Drainage Services Department 怡和機器勇奪香港渠務署1.24億港元合約

JEC has been awarded a HK$124 million contract from the Hong Kong Drainage Services Department for the provision of ultraviolet disinfection facilities for Sha Tin and Tai Po Sewage Treatment Works. The project is due to be completed in December 2009.

Currently, treated effluent from the plants is discharged via the Tolo Harbour Effluent Export Scheme into the Kai Tak Nullah. With the introduction of the ultraviolet disinfection facilities, the water quality in Kai Tak Nullah will be improved and E.coli levels will also be reduced. New State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Facility Opened in Thailand 泰國特靈開設全新高科技製造廠房

On 12 March 2008, Trane Thailand and JEC opened its new state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Samutprakarn province, Thailand. The joint venture’s investment of Baht 350 million (approximately US$11 million) in the plant, demonstrates its strong commitment to Thailand through the introduction of the latest cooling innovations to its customers.

This new facility has been designated as a Centre of Product Leadership for high-end residential products and small to mid-size commercial products weighing between six to sixty tons. It will also allow Trane to double their production capacity and assist in better serving the growing domestic and global demand. To ensure the highest product quality, the new plant features a research and development engineering laboratory and comprehensive testing facilities. The new facility also hosts a training centre, enabling Trane to share its extensive application experience and technical knowledge with customers, dealers, and partners.

Fund-raising Event Raised HK$2 million 齊步上怡廈 2008

The fund-raising event for MINDSET’s “Walk Up Jardine House” took place on 20 April 2008. This event raised HK$2 million to support the “Health in Mind” programme. Jardine Ambassadors and the Hospital Authority co- organised the event.

JEC’s team performed very well and won the 1st Runner Up for the Team Relay race. JEC’s Ms Zoe Kwan also won the Individual Female Trophy (29 Floors) for the second consecutive year. Congratulations to all JEC participants for their outstanding performance!

The road to certification is not always easy as it takes into account many factors, such as the number of sites operated, the different stages of projects, the large number of clients, and the nature of building services, plus E&M site work. Young Engineers Shine at JEC’s Outstanding Engineering Project Awards 2008怡和機器傑出工程項目獎

Since 2005, JEC has hosted the Outstanding Engineering Project Award (OEPA) to build closer ties with innovative students from universities. 2008 marks the third consecutive year of OEPA in Hong Kong and its second year in China. OEPA aims to encourage future engineers to develop new ideas and embrace innovation for the continuous improvement of the engineering industry for mankind. All members of the award panel have been impressed by the candidates’ passion and calibre.

On 26 May 2008, five finalist teams from Hong Kong universities including the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the University of Hong Kong, presented their projects to JEC’s OEPA adjudication panel. The short listed teams demonstrated great effort in their research and shared their innovative engineering ideas with the adjudication panel. The OEPA adjudication panel comprised Executive Directors of JEC, together with two external adjudicators, Ir Charles Chu, former Chief Fire Officer of the Hong Kong Fire Services Department, and Ir Dr Albert Ko, Chief Engineer of Médecins Sans Frontières. The winning team will be announced on 23 July 2008.

On 30 May 2008, the OEPA competition in China was held in Beijing. Participants included nine teams from Tsing Hua University, the Habin Institute of Technology and the University of Science and Technology of China. JEC invited Mr Wang Lei, Business Development Director of Cummins Power Generation East Asia, as the honourable external adjudicator, together with Mr James Graham, Chief Executive of JEC and other Executive Directors. The nine teams presented their innovative projects to the adjudication panel and demonstrated the social benefits of their new applications. After critical deliberation, the award was given to the students of the Tsing Hua University, Department of Precision Instruments and Mechanics, who studied the use of water and bubbles in the presentation of information. The Award Ceremony was held after the project presentations.

JEC’s Successful ‘Day Out With Children in Central’ 怡和義工隊挑戰Central, Fun, Fun, Fun活動 On 27 April 2008, the JEC Caring Team successfully organised a day out in Central, Hong Kong, for 25 children from the Hong Kong Children and Youth Services. The day was full of fun challenges for the children, with tasks such as navigation around various landmarks in Central. The day aimed to encourage teamwork and enhance problem solving skills. Many thanks for the Caring Team’s organisers and volunteers, who made the event such an enjoyable day for the children.

JEC Donates to The tragic situation that occurred in China following the devastating major earthquake in the Sichuan Province has touched all of our hearts and minds. Sichuan Earthquake JEC staff has raised, in generous personal donations, HK$144,000 to aid the Relief Efforts Sichuan emergency relief efforts. On 28 June 2008, more than 20 representatives from the JEC Caring Team and the Hong Kong Police Force led 18 children from the Hong Kong Children and Youth Services for a unique visit to the Hong Kong Police College in Wong Chuk Hang.

The play was very well received by the audience and provided some fun entertainment. Gold Award for Recognition of Voluntary Service Contributions 怡和機器義工隊獲金獎殊榮

On 29 April 2008, the Volunteer Movement of the Hong Kong Government’s Social Welfare Department rewarded the JEC Caring Team with their Gold Award. The award recognises JEC’s contribution of over 1,000 hours of volunteer services to the community in 2007.
