In contents 目 錄 Hong Kong, JEC is very proud to support the Green Olympics concept of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games by providing sustainable and recycling facilities to the Olympic Equestrian Events. Please see page 8 for more details. Along the same lines, JEC has recently launched an internal competition by inviting all children of JEC staff aged from 3 to 15 to present through drawing their ideas to “Save the World”. We sincerely hope that this competition will raise environmental awareness amongst our children, demonstrate 06 ways to follow a sustainable lifestyle and to teach the children of today, how to live for tomorrow. The project is due to be completed in December 2009. Currently, treated effluent from the plants is discharged via the Tolo Harbour Effluent Export Scheme into the Kai Tak Nullah. With the introduction of the ultraviolet disinfection facilities, the water quality in Kai Tak Nullah will be improved and E.coli levels will also be reduced. Drainage Services Department The plants are undergoing expansion with a view to meeting the demands for the developments in Sha exchanges documents with JEC. The joint venture’s investment of Baht 350 million (approximately US$11 million) in the plant, demonstrates its strong commitment to Thailand through the introduction of the latest cooling innovations to its customers. This new facility has been designated as a Centre of Product Leadership for high-end residential products and small to mid-size commercial products weighing between six to sixty tons. It will also allow Trane to double their production capacity and assist in better serving the growing domestic and global demand. To ensure the highest product quality, the new plant features a research and development engineering laboratory and comprehensive testing facilities. He was the son of a gardener, Richard Thomas, and Emily Barman from Tenterden, an area of Kent where many people of the Barman name still live. Charles had two brothers, Richard and George, and a younger sister, Elsie. As a boy, he attended the local primary school at Canterbury and attended services at the Cathedral.

    Historic Building Appraisal 1 Tsang Tai Uk Sha Tin, N.T. Tsang Tai Uk (曾大屋, literally the Big Mansion of the Tsang Family) is also Historical called Shan Ha Wai (山廈圍, literally, Walled Village at the Foothill). Its Interest construction was started in 1847 and completed in 1867. Measuring 45 metres by 137 metres, it was built by Tsang Koon-man (曾貫萬, 1808-1894), nicknamed Tsang Sam-li (曾三利), who was a Hakka (客家) originated from Wuhua (五華) of Guangdong (廣東) province which was famous for producing masons. He came to Hong Kong from Wuhua working as a quarryman at the age of 16 in Cha Kwo Ling (茶果嶺) and Shaukiwan (筲箕灣). He set up his quarry business in Shaukiwan having his shop called Sam Lee Quarry (三利石行). Due to the large demand for building stone when Hong Kong was developed as a city since it became a ceded territory of Britain in 1841, he made huge profit. He bought land in Sha Tin from the Tsangs and built the village. The completed village accommodated around 100 residential units for his family and descendents. It was a shelter of some 500 refugees during the Second World War and the name of Tsang Tai Uk has since been adopted. The sizable and huge fortified village is a typical Hakka three-hall-four-row Architectural (三堂四横) walled village. It is in a Qing (清) vernacular design having a Merit symmetrical layout with the main entrance, entrance hall, middle hall and main hall at the central axis. Two other entrances are to either side of the front wall.

This paper provides background information on the Central Military Dock (CMD") and summarizes discussions by the Panel on Security ("the Panel") on the Administration's proposed legislative exercise prior to the handover of CMD to the People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison ("the Garrison"). Background 2. According to the Administration, the Exchange of Notes between the Government of the United Kingdom ("UK Government") and the Government of the People's Republic of China ("PRC Government") on the Arrangements for the Future Use of the Military Sites in Hong Kong ("the Exchange of Notes") in 1994 set out the future arrangements for the then military sites including the buildings and fixed facilities located therein as follows: (a) 14 military sites should be handed over by the UK Government to the PRC Government for use for defence purposes by the Garrison as from 1 July 1997; (b) 25 military sites should be handed over by the UK Government to the then Hong Kong Government for disposal before 1 July 1997. Such arrangement was agreed by the PRC Government in order to accommodate Hong Kong's needs for social and economic development; and - 2 - 1 (c) as five military sites were affected before 1 July 1997, the relevant military buildings and fixed facilities should be re-provisioned for the Garrison. 3. CMD is an item under paragraph 2(c) above which is a military facility required to be re-provisioned by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region ("HKSAR") Government for the Garrison.
