In her Residential Harp Weeks, Workshops, Summer-schools and Teacher Training Courses, Janet Harbison continues to bring vitality, creativity, insight and inspiration to every generation and ability of player. What people say “Studying under Dr. Janet Harbison was a life-changing experience for me. Janet is a master of the Irish harp, and an expert teacher. Her guidance and support were instrumental in helping me establish myself as a professional musician and harp teacher. I would highly recommend Janet's apprenticeship program to anyone interested in further training.” Thea H, Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada “I have just experienced four incredible weeks of total immersion harp studies. Honestly, I absolutely loved every minute of it and I’d do it all again in a heartbeat. I was exposed to wonderful stories of Irish history, amazing music, fabulous people, an incredible venue with excellent cuisine and your thoughtful curriculum complete with teachers on your team who are second to none. Thank you, Janet, and thanks to everyone for your contributions towards this magnificent learning experience. You’re all forever in my heart.” Connie C, Okanagen Falls, BC, Canada “It was simply inspirational - you need to do a one woman theatre show - the music and stories were just captivating. A sincere thanks for sharing your talent I loved every minute of it!” Fiona C, London 2 janet catalogue may 2019 - A5 prices short R Nov 2020 .qxp_Layout 1 07/12/2020 3:16 pm Page 3 CONTENTS CDs 4 Tutor Book, Levels 1-4 8 Tutor Book, Levels 1-4 8 Tutor Book, Junior Beginners 10 Tutor Book, Adult Learners 10 Educational / Technical Books 11 The Book of Chimes 11 The Book of Chordscapes 11 The Book of Pentatones 11 Harbison Irish Harp Collection, Grades 1-8 12 Collections – Music Books 14 The Carolan Collection 14 Harbison’s 100s Easy Dance Tunes Collection 16 The Christmas Collection 18 By Strangford Water 19 Prayer 19 Original and Arranged Ensembles (harps, other instruments, choral etc) 20 Original Harp Solos 28 Arranged Harp Solos: Irish Dance Music 32 Arranged Harp Solos: Miscellaneous 35 Large Scale Works 39 Brian Boru Lion of Ireland 39 A Christmas Cantata 39 Colmcille 39 The prices in this catalogue are shown as a guide in three currencies: Euro (€), GBP (£), and USD ($). A few will be familiar already from orchestra works (here in solo version), 3 pieces include old trad dance tunes combined with new; also a Carolan tune getting a distinctive Harbison treatment. One piece has a second harp overdubbed, and the final tune has 4 harp voices over-dubbed. Many of the pieces are dedicated to special folk in Janet’s life, such as ‘By Strangford Water’ for her mentor Prof.Ronnie Buchanan, ‘Farewell Joel’ dedicated to Joel Garnier of Camac Harps, ‘Lily White’ for Janet’s mother-in-law, and ‘Trip to London’ for one-time manager, Avril MacRory. ‘Viking’ and ‘Kyrie’ are solo versions of pieces from the ‘Brian Boru, Lion of Ireland’ suite and Dance of the Water Sprites is a fantasy inspired by long-time friend Mimi Danly. Tracklist:1 By Strangford Water, 2 Bright New Morning (Solo Harp), 3 Leap of Faith, 4 Farewell Joel, 5 Trip to London, 6 Easter Snow, 7 Lily White, 8 Whelan’s and Janet’s Jigs (Solo Harp), 9 My Darling Bridget’s Hand (on Carolan’s Theme for Bridget Cruise), 10 Viking (Solo Harp), 11 Kyrie (Solo Harp), 12 Dance of the Water Sprites Item no: 013 By Strangford Water CD € 15 £ 14 $ 17 Item no: 2011 By Strangford Water Music Book and CD € 35 £ 32 $ 41 Slow Airs Janet Harbison, Solo (2017) Recorded in 2004 but not released until October 2017, this album of 23 slow airs is from the most profound and magical aspect of Irish traditional music. While the airs might seem ‘slow’, they are highly ornamented and expressive and many come from the end of the 17th century as ‘aisling’ or ‘visionary songs’ that lamented the plight of Ireland and Irish culture. None were conceived as harp music originally, rather as songs but they represent the most challenging and beautiful music to be played.
