ANNUAL REPORT 2020 CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE’S ANNUAL LETTER 2020 was a year of change and uncertainty the likes of which we have never seen. The year was marked by wildfires, murder hornets, the death of multiple cultural figures ranging from Boseman to Ginsburg, significant political unrest, and a wave of peaceful demonstrations to end racial injustice. Add a worldwide COVID-19 pandemic – the rise in infections and death; the disruptions and dislocations to lives and business; the emergence of vaccines from cutting-edge science – and 2020 saw more than its fair share of significant historical events. It is notable that as an industry, we didn’t get swept up by the sea of change. We did not stop. The Wisconsin biohealth industry stepped up to the challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic and demonstrated strength, ingenuity, and compassion in ways that helped their employees and the state, and saved lives worldwide. Members put competition aside in the name of cooperation and collaboration for the greater good, and the Wisconsin biohealth industry has flourished. We want to take a moment to thank our member companies for continuing to push forward to help maintain the health and safety of us all. THANK YOU! As the Wisconsin biohealth industry’s collective voice, BioForward continued to focus on member-centric efforts designed to develop an identity for the Wisconsin biohealth industry to compete on the global stage and open the door for more significant investment activity as well as talent acquisition and retention. In tandem, we challenged ourselves to unite our industry despite the world quarantining and Zoom fatigue. Going into our 34th year of operation, we reaffirm our mission to work together to grow Wisconsin biohealth companies and unite the industry to develop integrated health solutions that define the future of healthcare. BioForward’s growth allows us to reinvest in our members through quality programming, making connections, expanding initiatives, and vital donations to Wisconsin STEM programming. We have renewed energy to position the industry for growth and promote the industry and region as we further define our role in helping the Wisconsin biohealth industry build a brighter future.
