    Umberto Vattani Nato a Skopje (Repubblica di Macedonia) il 5 dicembre 1938, ha studiato in Francia, in Inghilterra e negli USA alla Wesleyan University, con una borsa di studio Fulbright. Nel 1960 ha conseguito la laurea in giurisprudenza all’Università degli Studi di Roma "La Sapienza" e nel 1962 la laurea in scienze politiche. Dopo un periodo presso l'ufficio studi della Banca d'Italia, nel 1962 entra nella carriera diplomatica, con esperienze a New York alla rappresentanza italiana presso l'Organizzazione delle Nazioni Unite, a Parigi alla rappresentanza italiana presso l’OCSE, a Londra come consigliere d'ambasciata, a Bonn come ambasciatore, a Bruxelles come ambasciatore rappresentante italiano presso l'Unione Europea. E' stato consigliere diplomatico di numerosi Presidenti del Consiglio, e "sherpa" per i vertici G7. E' stato segretario generale del Ministero degli Esteri dal 1997 al 2001, e nuovamente dal 2004 al 2005, unico diplomatico nella storia della Repubblica ad aver ricoperto per due volte la carica. Nel 2005 Vattani è stato nominato dal Consiglio dei Ministri presidente dell’Istituto Nazionale per il Commercio Estero e nel 2009 è stato riconfermato per un secondo mandato. È presidente della Fondazione Italia Giappone. È inoltre presidente della Venice International University, un centro internazionale di formazione avanzata e ricerca con sede a Venezia, che raccoglie 12 prestigiose università di tutto il mondo. E' membro onorario del Senato Accademico della Libera Università di Berlino, ed è stato docente di Storia dell'Integrazione Europea presso l'Università LUISS a Roma. È Consigliere Generale della Fondazione Italia USA. Stefania Giannini Nata a Lucca il 18 novembre 1960, coniugata con due figli, ha studiato presso l'Università di Pisa e di Pavia fino a conseguire il titolo di professore ordinario di Glottologia e Linguistica.
