Biography

Drew M.

Drew M. Grimm was appointed Assistant Inspector General for Investigations (AIGI) in July 2017. In this role, he oversees a nationwide staff dedicated to the investigation of fraud, waste, and abuse in programs and operations administered by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM).

Mr. Grimm has worked for the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) in various capacities since 1996. Beginning his career as an auditor specializing in audits of health insurance carriers, Mr. Grimm transferred to the Office of Investigations in 1998. Mr. Grimm worked as a criminal investigator at OPM headquarters and in multiple field offices before becoming a Special Agent in Charge (SAC) in 2004. As a SAC, Mr. Grimm developed a project through which criminal investigators worked with forensic auditors to develop and investigate large, complex, data-driven, nationwide cases. The practices developed during the pilot project are now a prominent part of the OIG’s investigative activities.

Mr. Grimm led the OIG’s D.C. Metro and Major Frauds Groups from 2009 to 2016, and was a key member of the OIG’s internal response team after the 2015 OPM IT data breaches. He has played a crucial role in the ongoing expansion of the Office of Investigations, including the creation of new field office locations, and has worked closely with OPM’s Healthcare and Insurance office to strengthen the fraud, waste, and abuse provisions in OPM’s contracts with health insurance carriers. Mr. Grimm was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in 2016, serving as the Deputy AIGI prior to his appointment as AIGI.

Mr. Grimm attended Albright College and graduated with a B.S. in Accounting in 1996.
