Position title: Tourism managers (Couple) Location: Majete Wildlife Reserve Starting date: 1 March 2021 Duration: Initial 3-year contract

Overview: Majete Wildlife Reserve is managed by the non-profit organization , on a long-term basis, to protect its wildlife and uplift the surrounding local communities for the ecological, financial and social sustainability of the reserve. Under African Parks’ management since 2003, Majete has become a world-renowned case study for successful conservation in a challenging environment. Majete has a variety of tourism products, the key being a sixteen bed lodge within the reserve along with a modern campsite and day visitor centre focusing on the needs of day visitors coming to the reserve. The lodge received a facelift in 2020 and has become a popular destination for the citizens and residents of Malawi. We hope that this year will see the return of international and increased local visitors and as such we are gearing up to receive them. Equally the campsite has become a popular retreat for campers and caters for the self-contained campers with their own equipment as well as “glampers” requiring a bit more comfort. The visitors centre receives day trippers from where we offer drives, boat trips on the Shire river as well as other activities. The centre has a shop, swimming pool and food outlet a place where visitors can relax before or after their activities within the reserve. A small conference room offers local business and other groups the capability to meet and All tourism products are open throughout the year with the main tourism season being between May and September. To create understanding and awareness of the activities, sightings and events happening within the reserve; social media has become a key marketing tool and requires management of this function on a daily basis.

Role and Responsibilities: The role and responsibilities are wide and varying due to the management of the different products offered to our visitors. They include but are not limited to the following:

1. Lodge Management • Based at the lodge, eighty percent of the managers’ time will focus on the needs of the guests at the lodge with overall responsibility for the running of the lodge following the set of standards and maintenance of the high standard of service achieved thus far. • Delivery of a world class tourism product synonymous with African Parks • Management of seventeen local staff including refresher training and upskilling • Daily hosting of the all guests arriving at the lodge. • Management of the guest accounts • Adherence to the Expenditure budget

2. Campsite management • Management of the campsite staff • Management of the assets and infrastructure of the campsite • Maintenance of relations with campers

3. Visitor centre • Management of the visitor centre staff • Management of the guest booking system for the reserve • Interact with the finance department to account for revenue streams. • Management of the asset and infrastructure of the centre including maintenance of all tourism vehicles. • Management of the stock and sales of the shop. • Management of the food outlet at the centre.

4. Satellite camps • Management of the asset and infrastructure of the three non-commercial satellite camps within the headquarter area. • Management of the people movement for those units.

5. Marketing function • Develop and promote new activities within the reserve. • Manage all social media platforms, posting news on a daily basis and responding to posts • Manage all bookings on the Resrequest site

6. Logistics • Logistics and procurement of lodge supplies • Liaison with APN Commercial on Resrequest bookings. • In country logistics for guests.

7. Reporting • Daily sales report • Bi weekly stock report • Monthly staff attendance report • Monthly park manager activity report • Monthly expenditure reporting • Inventory reports • Other reports as requested

4. Reporting Lines The tourism managers will report directly to the Special Projects Manager

Role requirements: • A passionate, practical, adaptable, enthusiastic and independent management couple with extensive luxury camp and F&B management experience • At least 5 years’ experience living and operating in remote locations • Excellent planning and organizational skills • Strong initiative and creativity with a “dare to “attitude • Team players who share ideas and learning with others. • Team players who will nurture and develop subordinate staff • Professional with a sense of fun • Excellent ability to build and manage relationships with a wide variety of people and cultures • Computer literate • Efficient at using social media streams

Key relationships 1. The Park Manager. 2. The Special Projects Manager and Park Management Unit. 3. The heads of support services, technical, workshop, stores and finance 4. The heads of the tourism products 5. Head of Commercial Development African Parks and his PA responsible for marketing and sales
