It gives us an immense pleasure to write a few words about our beloved HOD Dr.H.T.Venkate Gowda,who Sri Sri Sri Nirmalananandanatha Mahaswamiji has joined our esteemed institution on 07/04/2016, after retiring from Mysore Chief Advisor Dr. M.G. Shivaramu, Principal Medical college as Prof & HOD . He has rendered dedicated and immense Chief Editor service for a period of 33 & 1/2 years Dr. H.T. Venkate Gowda Professor and Head, Dept. of Ophthalmology He has many laurels in his academic performance.To name a few, he has been Teaching Faculty Dr. H. R. Padmini awarded M C Modi Gold medal in the field of ophthalmology. He has assisted Professor and HOD Dr. R. Jayaram and as well as published numerous international and national papers. From Editor’s Desk “ Jai Shri Gurudev” With the blessing of Parampoojya Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Dr. Balgangadharanatha Mahaswa- miji and Parampoojya Sri Sri Sri Dr. Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamiji,with deep gratitude I am thankful for being given to work as Prof & HOD in the Department of ophthalmology. I wish to serve this institution with utmost dedication and I am thankful to all teaching and non-teaching staff of my department for all the immense help they have contributed to me in taking over the responsibility. I along with my staff wish to take our department and our institution to great heights. We would like to highlight on various academical activities held from January till date. Guest lecture on “ - the sneak thief of sight “ by Dr.Shilpa N,senior consultant (Nethradhama superspeciality eye hospital) was held on 14/3/2016 as a part WORLD GLAUCOMA WEEK (8th to 14th March),as glaucoma is the second most leading cause of blindness worldwide. Another milestone event taken place in the department of ophthalmology AIMS, is the smooth and effective conduction of DIABETIC SCREENING CAMP, in the direction of better eye care for the rural population in and around B.G.Nagara. A motivating and inspiring speech on eye donation importance was given by our beloved Principal. People were educated about dos and dont’s of eye donation .They were motivated to register for the eye donation and cards were issued to registration for the same. About 60 peo- ple were registered. We were successful in giving the message “There is no better way to thank God for your sight than by giving a helping hand to someone in the dark”.
