From the early days of the war until almost a year to the day after Armistice Day, there were fatalities, all of whom had some cricket heritage, either in their youth or just prior to the outbreak of the war. Based on a review of the contemporary press, Great War histories, war memorials, cricket books, journals and websites there were 289 men who died during or shortly after the war or as a result of injuries received, and one, Frank Browning who died during the 1916 Easter Rising, though he was heavily involved in organising the Sporting Pals in Dublin. These men came from all walks of life, from communities all over Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, India and Sri Lanka. For all but four of the fifty-two months which the war lasted, from August 1914 to November 1918, one or more men died who had a cricket connection in Ireland or abroad. The worst day in terms of losses from a cricketing perspective was the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916, when eighteen men lost their lives. It is no coincidence to find that the next day which suffered the most losses, 9 September 1916, at the start of the Battle of Ginchy when six men died.

Although the clergy had ceased to be the exclusive custodians of funeral ritual, their views and example remained highly significant in conveying approval, or disapproval, of cremation to their religious constituencies. This article explores attitudes to cremation among the English Anglican and Roman Catholic leadership in the twentieth-century. In the first half of the century, a number of high profile Anglican bishops promoted cremation by both teaching and example. The Roman Catholic Church, however, remained opposed to the practice, which it equated with atheism and inhumanity. Although the Catholic position began to soften from the 1960s, it is evident that some reticence about cremation remains. The different approaches to cremation illuminate a subtle religious and cultural fault line between the two ecclesial communities which has hitherto been little explored. The article highlights the role of the Cremation Society of Great Britain in working with members of both Churches to normalise cremation. Area committees must agree decisions relating to the maintenance and strategic management of cemeteries and burial grounds. 2. The purpose of the Memorial Safety Policy is to set out the Council’s position on memorial safety, a subject that has come to the fore nationwide in recent years. Peter Mitchell Associates undertook an initial inspection of the entire memorial inventory in 2005 under contract to the Council. Memorials in all four City cemeteries and ten closed churchyards were inspected over a period of four months. A total of 20,363 memorials were tested of which 2,085 were found to be at high risk and were subsequently made safe by being laid down, fenced off or staked for support.

It focuses on strategic sites in south Cherwell and is informed by the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and National Planning Practice Guidance (PPG). 1.2 This document replaces the Sequential Test produced in June 2017 following the production of an updated Level 2 Strategic Flood Risk Assessment which will inform the Examination of the Partial Review. The Partial Review includes three potential allocation sites which the Environment Agency has identified could potentially be impacted by fluvial flooding in the future. The Environment Agency has requested a more robust assessment of fluvial flood risk at the sites to provide confidence that the proposed land uses at the sites are likely to be deliverable, in respect to climate change. The aim of the Level 2 SFRA addendum, therefore, is to provide a clarification of the fluvial flood risk posed to the three potential allocation sites, resulting from potential climate change. The Environment Agency did not have any comments on the June 2017 Sequential Test but recommended that it be updated to take into account the SFRA Addendum.
