Configuration of 6 Devices

This document describes the steps required to setup ActiveSync on your Pocket PC (PPC) or device in order to synchronise your email, calendar and contacts data from the new mail and calendaring system. These instructions are provided as a guide and should apply to most ActiveSync models - especially newer devices.

Supported devices include Treo 650, 680, 700 w/p, Nokia E-Series, Motorola Q, and (all Windows Mobile 5+ devices), as well as Apple iPhones. For more information on Zimbra Mobile, please visit the vendor website at: http://www.zimbra.com/products/mobile_smartphone.html .

1) Run ActiveSync on your PPC or SmartPhone

a. From the Today Screen tap Start -> Programs -> ActiveSync

2) Edit Server Settings - Page 1

a. Tap Menu -> Configure Server b. In the Server address field enter mail.uoguelph.ca c. Ensure “ This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection” is CHECKED d. Tap Next

3) Edit Server Settings - Page 2

a. User Name : Your UoG email address, including the @uoguelph.ca b. Password: Your Central Login ID password c. Save password : CHECKED d. Tap Next

Page 2 of 4 4) Edit Server Settings - Page 3 a. Check the types of data you want synchronized b. Tasks: IMPORTANT - Keep Unchecked! At this point in time the new email and calendaring system is not able to synchronize Tasks . Trying to do so may prevent other data from synchronizing properly. c. Tap Finish

5) Your device is now ready to sync.

6) Sync schedule set-up

a. ActiveSync -> Menu -> Schedule b. Set your Sync Preferences • Push: Sync as items arrive o Not recommended unless you have an unlimited wireless data plan o Check with your wireless service provider for details on your plan • Manual: Sync according to a schedule or on demand o Recommended to avoid unplanned expenses o Sync PPC and via USB Sync Cable, , or WiFi

If your device is not able to synchronize with the new email and calendaring system please contact your local IT administrator and/or your mobile service provider.
