LGBT History Month 2016
Inner Temple Library LGBT History Month 2016 ‘The overall aim of LGBT History Month is to promote equality and diversity for the benefit of the public. This is done by: increasing the visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (“LGBT”) people, their history, lives and their experiences in the curriculum and culture of educational and other institutions, and the wider community; raising awareness and advancing education on matters affecting the LGBT community; working to make educational and other institutions safe spaces for all LGBT communities; and promoting the welfare of LGBT people, by ensuring that the education system recognises and enables LGBT people to achieve their full potential, so they contribute fully to society and lead fulfilled lives, thus benefiting society as a whole.’ Source: www.lgbthistorymonth.org.uk/about Legal Milestones ‘[A] wallchart has been produced by the Forum for Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Equality in Further and Higher Education and a group of trade unions in association with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) History Month. The aim has been to produce a resource to support those raising awareness of sexual orientation and gender identity equality and diversity. Transgender Policy Launch
NEWSLETTER 3 - August 2017 TRANS GENDER EDITION TRANSGENDER POLICY LAUNCH We continuously strive to promote and embed equality and diversity across the Service and the communities we serve. Senior Management Team approved a new Service Policy on Transgender equality which will now be adopted Service- wide. To celebrate and acknowledge this, on Thursday 22 June, we officially launched the Transgender Policy. This policy ensures the Service has guidelines in place, providing transgender equality for all employees and is another step towards making our Service a fully inclusive workplace that treats all individuals equally, with respect. The policy will be used in conjunction with the recently launched collaborative document “Trans Equality In The Workplace”, which is a guide for managers (continued page 2) 1 (from page 1 ) and staff of public sector organisations in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The event was well attended with representatives from operational and support staff, as well as other partner organisations from across the region. In addition to giving presentations to Middle Managers and Supervisory Managers on the day, we were delighted that Transgender advocate and Welcome to this latest issue of campaigner, Charlie Craggs, also came to support our launch. Charlie and her the shOUT! Network Newsletter, site Nail Transphobia (www.nailtransphobia.com) have been featured across the which is a special edition, world’s media (internet, social media, TV, press and radio): focussing on transgender issues. “Craggs has emerged as an immensely popular and positive figure while breaking down stereotypes and creating allies.” Fader Magazine Over the past months, not only have we launched our Service- “Charlie Craggs is a radical social innovator working across the UK, making a real wide Transgender Policy, but difference to society.” The Guardian we have also worked collaboratively to produce a Transgender Equality Guidance document for all staff. -

RESEARCH PAPER 98/68 'Age of Consent' for Male 19 JUNE 1998 Homosexual Acts This Paper updates Research Paper 94/12 by Helena Jeffs. It has been prepared in response to Ann Keen's proposed amendments to the Crime and Disorder Bill [HL] [Bill 167 of 1997-98] which aim to lower the age of consent for male homosexual acts from 18 to 16. It sets out the amendments to the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 which lowered the age of consent from 21 to 18, and looks at the events leading up to the changes currently proposed. It also gives an overview of some of the many issues which may arise in considering whether the age at which male homosexual acts are illegal should be changed. Annual Report 2013/14 EPOA · ANNUAL REPORT 2013/14 Welcome to EPOA! EPOA, the European Pride Organisers Association, had a difficult working year. It is not a secret that maintaining a cross-border non-profit organisation with limited financial means is a daunting task. Add to the mix some new faces and new ideas and fireworks are guaranteed. Unfortunately some of the board members have left us half way through the working year for all sorts of different reasons. But looking back at some of the challenges we came across, it has to be said that the board and its vision has come out even stronger. So with the remaining board members we obviously ensured the proper functioning of the organisation but foremost lined ourselves up towards a better organisa- tion for the future. It is truly a great honour for us to host the sixth conference in the ALMS series at the historic Haus der Kulturen der Welt from 27–29 June 2019. This is a very special year for Berlin: ALMS 2019 commemorates the 100th anniversary of the world’s first queer archive, library, museum and special collection. In July 1919 Magnus Hirschfeld opened the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft [Institute for Sex Research]: a place of research, advice and counselling, of social gatherings, intellectual and cultural exchange, performances and parties. On 6 May 1933, just fourteen years later, the institute – including its sex historical museum – was destroyed by the Nazis and its library burned. The institute was located at the very place where the Haus der Kulturen der Welt stands today, and where this conference convenes. ALMS 2019 is therefore a historic event of enormous symbolic, political and scientific significance. Since the ALMS conference series was initiated by Jean Tretter in Minneapolis in 2006, its mis- sion has been to ensure that LGBTIQ+ history continues to be preserved and shared. Over the years, more and more activists have come together to build up an impressive international network at subsequent conferences in New York, San Francisco, Amsterdam and London. In Berlin in 2019, we are extremely pleased to welcome over 350 participants from more than 40 countries. They come from a full spectrum of grassroots, public, private and academic archives, working to collect and preserve materials of all types from LGBTIQ+ communities, researching the queer past, or de- veloping ways to make these materials and histories accessible to audiences. -
